It’s that time of the week again when a new under-the-radar artist takes pride of place as the BBC Introducing track on the Radio 1 playlist. This week is Kagoule’s turn with their track It Knows It, and you can hear it on Gemma, Fearne, Scott and Greg on daytime this week.
Hometown: Kagoule, formed by Cai Burns, Lucy E Hatter and Lawrence English, are a three-piece from Nottingham.
Style: Believe it or not, Cai, Lucy and Lawrence are only 18 years old. But age is just a number for this trio, with their powerful and '90s grunge sound echoing the style and maturity of an older, more developed group that you would not expect from a band only in their infancy. Kagoule have mixed together an ideal combination of indie rock with grunge inspired post punk, especially on It Knows It. Driven drums and melodic, heavy guitar sounds create a heavy, fuzzy wall of sound that truly represents Kagoule’s rock sound.
You need to know: In the past year, Kagoule have been on tour with the likes of Drenge, Temples, The Wytches, amongst many more and their live set is something to be admired. They didn’t stray from their hard-core live reputation, even when drummer Lawrence broke his wrist the day before a local support gig with Iceage.
Supported by: Kagoule have been supported by their local Introducing show, BBC Introducing in the East Midlands. Phil & Alice and Zane Lowe are also fans and have played Kagoule on their Radio 1 evening shows.
