This week you have the perfect combination of BBC Introducing acts representing us on the Radio 1 playlist. Matches UK has remixed fellow Introducing artist One Bomb and their track Take Over. Tune into the daytime shows this week to catch Gemma Cairney, Fearne Cotton, Scott Mills and Greg James spinning this garage track, or you can listen below.
Hometown: Matt Hodkinson, or Matches UK as he is better known, is a talented producer from Nottingham.
Style: As a true music devotee, Matt has used multiple musical influences to piece together his creations as Matches UK. With a love for early '90s drum n bass and a fascination in the electronic music scene, Matches UK has developed his own eclectic style amongst a variety of genres. Citing one of his main influences as The Prodigy and their rave-inspired, raucous crowd pounding beats, you can expect all of this and more from Matches UK. Throw in some happy hardcore and old skool jungle for good measure, and you have an upcoming producer pushing the boundaries of electronic music.
You need to know: Matches UK’s remix of Take Over comes at a perfect time for One Bomb, whose track Good Times Roll featured on the Introducing playlist last month. Si Tew’s background as an electronic producer, combined with Shookz’ work in drum and bass collides with Matt’s love for both genres on this track, with an added influence from his degree in music technology ensuring each beat and layer are pieced together perfectly. The trio have also joined forces with vocalist Aja and hip hop’s Jackdalad.
Supported by: There is some incredible new talent coming out of Nottingham at the moment, with two consecutive tracks on the Introducing playlist coming from BBC Introducing in the East Midlands. One Bomb and Matches UK have both been heavily supported by the show since uploading their tracks to us.
