Calling all new music fans! Be sure to tune in to Radio 1’s daytime shows all week to hear the latest BBC Introducing act, Dan Hyde, on the playlist. The DJs playing his newest track My Door include Fearne Cotton, Greg James and Huw Stephens, but you can get ahead by listening to it below.

Hometown: Dan Hyde is an 18-year old singer/songwriter currently studying at Sixth Form in Cannock, Staffordshire.

Style: My Door is an alternative indie pop track full of perfectly-placed musical accents. Dan recently tweeted that he’s enjoying listening to the likes of Nick Mulvey and Sigur Ros, and it seems Dan has taken inspiration from both on My Door mirroring Mulvey’s musical serenity and Sigur Ros’ use of crescendo on iconic tracks like Hoppipolla.

As it begins, you feel haunted by the eerie, quiet and soft vocals. An unexpected swift drum beat is a sign of things to come as the percussion soon kicks in with the guitar layer becoming louder and pacier. As the music alters, these haunting vocals reveal themselves to be beautiful and melodic and perfectly accompanies the music as it crescendos as the track rises.

You need to know: At the age of 18, Dan’s route into the music industry is like no other - he’s still at school studying for his A Levels. And it seems like 18 will be his lucky number this year after it was the day of his 18th birthday when he received the phone call to tell him that he would be on the Radio 1 Playlist.

Dan has joined forces with Edward Turner, a fellow BBC Introducing in Stoke supported artist, who co-wrote and produced My Door.

Supported by: Dan has been supported by not one, not two, but three of our BBC Introducing shows across the country. BBC Introducing in the West Midlands and BBC Introducing from Stoke have been big fans of Dan since he uploaded My Door our system. The track has been played on the BBC Introducing Show with Jen Long and Ally McCrae.
