For those that don’t know, every week a BBC Introducing artist is added to the Radio 1 playlist and rewarded with plays on the station’s biggest shows including Greg James, Scott Mills and Fearne Cotton. This week it’s Rhodes and his track Raise Your Love. Listen below and leave your comments right down there at the foot of the page.
Hometown: Rhodes is a 24 year-old singer from Hitchin, a small market town in Hertfordshire.
Style: Pretty crazily, Rhodes has been playing guitar and singing for less than a year, first uploading tracks to the BBC Introducing Uploader in April. Combining a simple electric guitar backing with an eerie vocal, there’s an apocalyptic feel to this emotional indie.
You need to know: He’s currently working in the studio with Noah and the Whale’s Charlie Fink following a summer of touring with the likes of Laura Marling and Nick Mulvey.
Supported by: Rhodes has had plenty of love from his local show, BBC Introducing in Beds, Herts and Bucks and was in session for them last Saturday (listen here). He’s also had tracks played on Radio 1 by Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart as well as support from Amazing Radio, Xfm and Dermot O’Leary at Radio 2.
