Reading is imminent...

Huw Stephens Huw Stephens | 11:40 UK time, Thursday, 24 August 2006

I've been listening to Akira the Don's brilliant forthcoming album - When We Were Young. The rapper has had a colourful past, involved with Interscope records and his debut is a blast - some polished, some gritty, some sad and some witty. There's a few hits on there too I reckon, and the single Oh! is a banger!

On another note, Bonnie Prince Billy's forthcoming album might well be his best yet. His lyrics and the whole tone of the album is so beautiful and lonesome, with a few bursts of joy along the way. It's called The Letting Go and its out in September - best song is probably No Bad News, but my god, the whole listening experience blows you away.

tonight on Radio 1 Wales from 7.30 (you can listen online if youre not in Wales of course) its all about the Green Man festival - loads of live highlights from Aliens, Donovan, Gruff Rhys and more. And da Bank has even more live highlights on his show tonight!

got records to pack for Reading this weekend now after pre rcording a few Radio Cymru shows. really looking forward to it now. Ive been passing the Reading site ont he train for the lst couple of weeks watching it grow - itll be good to finally get there! I'm looking forward to seeing Mastodon, Belle and Sebastian, Get Cape, Forward Russia, GLC, Primal Scream, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, YYY's, Cribs, Slayer and Prince.

What dyou mean Prince isnt playing?.......

see you there:)

hi huw, the flaming lips did a cover of what a wonderful world in there own inimicable style circa 1997. my wife and i had a reasonably untidy year starting 7/7/2005 an it would bring us a smile to hear that played. it has a certain wayne panache...

Spent this evening in Waverton village hall learning about traffic speed guns that can be operated by parish councellers to check the speed of vehicles passing through their villages.
A very interesting meeting I learned at lot about speed limit guidlines ie 36 MPH for a 30MPH limit and 47MPH for a 40 MPH limit.
