Is it now?
Yesterday the swallows took to the sky with such a chorus that all filming stopped to take note. I now know why.
The baby swallows have arrived. From their tiny home, they peek out amongst the tools. 'Are you bringing food?', they enquire. They, the bountiful strawberries, the bright windy day, a plate full of greens for lunch, a half-finished crossword, Open Book on 4, the ripening veg garden, a vase full of sweetpeas, have taken a brush and washed the garden with summer. Perhaps, this is it. Who knows what the rest of the summer will bring, but for today it is complete.

Summer has undoubtedly arrived.
I spent 45 minutes filling and emptying 2 watering cans on my veg plot last night.
Soon as I finished it started to rain... What more proof do we need of a British summer arriving than that.
I love your poetic and uplifting post. Why is this season so pleasing for us? Summer just is. How nice it would be to sit on the bank of your pond at Berryfields and rest in the grace of it all. I'm deeply jealous.
What is Open Book on 4 Alys?

Re: proof of British summer- cycling home in the rain in a pair of espadrilles (ah optimism)
Open Book is an afternoon programme on Radio 4 with the lovely Mariella Frostrup. It's all about bookish things.

It's that same optimism that keeps us coming back to the soil, no matter how many times the snails eat my herbs and seedlings.
Thanks for the introduction to Open Book. Bit of a book worm as well as a garden bug myself. I hope I can download it as a podcast.
