Summer lawn care

Hi All

Even though we've been off air for Wimbledon over the last couple of weeks, as always we've been working very hard in preparing an action packed show for next Friday.

What a scorcher of a heat wave we've had this week! It's that time of year where many of us may start to panic if our lawns start to go brown, but don't lose hope as it will grow back! The best tips to keep your lawn green would be to resist the urge of using a sprinkler, raise the height of the blades on your mower - slightly longer grass will last longer in the heat and it's probably best not to cut your grass as often. We'll be doing the same at Greenacre.

This week we've been filming at RHS Rosemoor and Toby has been exploring planting styles to get inspiring ideas, which he will been trying out in his front garden at Greenacre - do tune in next week to see how it's progressing. While we're on the topic of front gardens, have we inspired you to revamp your front garden yet? Please do let us know how you're getting on, we'd love to hear from you. Why not post your photos on our Flickr page? We may feature them in the show.

Hampton Court is fast approaching and we're sure you're all just as excited as us to see the all new remodelled show. This year the four floral marquees will be changing to create one large space and allowing more nurseries to attend the show. The BBC will be covering the event throughout the week so do tune in and to find a full list of the schedule please go to the Hampton court website.

Hope you've been making the most of your gardens in the sun. Enjoy your gardening weekend.

Iwould like to see more basic pruning techniques on GW, as there used to be when I first started watching in 1973 with dear Percy Thrower. As I recall there was a specialist fruit expert from RHS Wisley who showed how and when to summer prune and winter prune. As pruning is such a big part of gardening, I feel it deserves a higher profile. I must say I am very keen on Carol Klein's items regarding plant propogation techniques. Even though I have been gardening for many years I had never tried growing fresh seed from primulas until she suggested it recently and I am delighted to report that they are starting to germinate. Thanks Carol (us girls must stick together)

I gat rather annoyed that Gardeners' World is off air for all this time and when it is on it's coverage from shows. Can't we have both? I realise Wimbledon gets in the way but I could cope with watching Gardeners' World at 9pm rather than 8pm. The BBC was only showing a repeat of Top Gear in that slot. It would be good to have a bit more follow through of projects. The planting bit is easy - it's the after care and problem solving I find tricky!

Its a relief that the weather has cooled down over the last few days, some of my flowering plants have been looking a bit sorry for themselves.

    Hello all,
I was at a show last year and visited a herb stand that had a lovely plant which tasted like new potatoes! I wondered around and then forgot to go back and get it and now I've forgotten its name, does anyone know the name of the mystery herb? :-)

Could GW feature tips on what vegetables, herbs and ornamental/flowering plants can be mixedly planted in my garden; and yet be able to come up with a beautiful and colorful landscaping for my lawn?
