Top ten bee plants
This week's hot topic is vineyards and if all goes to plan Joe is hoping to have a fully operational Chateau de Greenacre in the autumn!
Another hot topic is the fast approaching British summer. We're all hoping for a long overdue dose of sunshine - with a moderate amount of rain - especially to get those Dig In vegetables growing. How is everyone getting on? My shoots seem to be growing very rapidly!
On tonight's programme the team will be creating a bee's paradise with a border full of the top bee plants. So to save you jotting it down, here's a list of the top ten bee plants
- 1 Agastache
- 2 Ajuga, Bugle
- 3 Cirsium rivulare 'Atropurpureum'
- 4 Echium
- 5 Echinops, Globe thistle
- 6 Erysimum 'Bowles's Mauve', Perennial wallflower
- 7 Monarda, Beebalm
- 8 Sedum
- 9 Tanacetum coccineum, Pyrethrum
- 10 Verbena bonariensis
If you want to know more information about bumblebees, why not visit the Bumblebee Conservation Trust's website.
Thanks to everyone who's been posting images onto our Flickr group, do keep them coming as they may make their way onto the show!
Finally, keep posting messages about your gardening What's hot and what's not - there's a possibility they could be featured on the show too.
Enjoy your gardening weekend

I've sowed the carrots and the tomatoes from the Dig-In pack.
The carrots are up and starting to shoot their second set of leaves, as are the tomatoes. I'll be thinning both out within a week I think!
Looking forward to the show. 4 minutes to go!

May i suggest that when plant names are shown on Gardeners World that they are left on the screen a lot longer to enable them to be written down

Thought Fridays show was packed with interesting items. It really is inspiring to see how Greenacres is developing each week.
Keep up the good work everyone.

First ever gardening experience yesterday. Best way to catch the sun whilst also being productive (note:sun cream was to hand!).
So yesterday, started with some weeding. Today, more weeding. And so forth until next week. At least! Good fun though. Will rely on Gardener's World for tips on developing my own GreenFingersWilliams Acres !!

I can't find where to send the team messages, so here goes...
We reckon the show's one of the best things on TV at the moment.
What does the team think about using what professional growers use in large polytunnels (vermiculite?). That way we could spend more time relaxing in our gardens.

Can I make a suggestion for the what is not hot feature.
Last year many of us had problems due to contaminated manure and it seems lots of people are still unaware of the need to be really cautious when acquiring manure. It seems those supplying manure are often also unaware of the problem which needs far more publicity than it has so far received.
I have already had emails to my website from people affected this year and anything your team can do to publicise the need to gain assurances from suppliers before accepting manure could prevent someone from feeling devastated at losing their veg.
Maybe something hot could be suggestions for what could be used instead of manure.
Aminopyralid did have its licence suspended temporarily but it seems that it is being considered for reinstatement.
I know I am not allowed to post a weblink but if you Google Green Lane Allotments you will find my web site which has as much information as I can find about the problem.

What's hot- getting inspired, going to buy plants for the bees and finding lots of others doing the same.
What's not - too much artistic soft focus, Little Llanavon Hereford went past in a blur.
We like the program it's made us focus on our garden again.

The piece about bees was inspirational, and fortunately I happen to love all the plants listed.
While the demise of the bee is alarming, as I look around the garden, and the hoards of green fly and black fly, I wonder to myself
Where have all the Ladybirds gone?
I haven't seen any this year, and I seriously doubt I saw any last.

My newly seeded carrots are thriving in tall 80`s style cigerrette ashtray holders! With well rotted manure to grow in.......whilst the ones in my rasied beds (not as high up as the ashtrays!) are`nt quite as bold n upright.

Hi Splendidmurphyca
The plant in question is the Pimpinella major Rosea. If youre having difficulty getting hold of it, the Chaerophyllum hirsutum Roseum will make a fab alternative!
Hope that helps
