Time For Seminar

This weeks 'Friction Introducing' artist is an MC from Slough called Seminar.  Ricky Gervais may have made Slough famous for all the wrong reasons, but believe me when I say this fiery MC talent is no David Brent! (Thank God..)

Seminar.jpgSeminar is a perfect example of how the best new talent very often doesn't start out winning all the awards, or blow everyone away.  When he first approached me a year or two back I was under whelmed.  He talked the talk but definitely didn't walk the walk.  He told me he was a contender and just needed a chance, but his musical output was still in training at best, and downright sloppy at worst.

Then something amazing happened - he got better.  Not just slightly better, but better x2 every time he sent a new track.  I was watching incremental growth over the period of twelve months which any specialist DJ will tell you is like watching raw nature in action.  His flow on the 'I'm Milli' beat was full of righteous anger towards the micky mouse practices of much if the Asian music industry - and some other Brit-Asian MC's!  Then a couple of weeks ago he sent in 'My Parents' - a three minute story about the first generation's struggles and experiences told with a sharp tongue and beautiful mind.  It's this track that puts him in the "watch out for him" category and I predict good things from this brother.
