How far would you go to get a school place?
Parents in England could face tougher penalties if they lie and cheat to get a child into the school of their choice. The Chief Schools Adjudicator has produced a report that looks into the scale of abuse of the system, and is expected to recommend harsher punishments for anyone who's caught.
Some schools are even employing private detectives to check whether parents are lying about where they live. What punishments should these parents face? Have you lied - or stretched the truth - to get your child into the best school? What about the schools that nobody wants to go to? How far would you go to ensure your children get the best possible education - is the system now so complicated that it's inevitable people will cheat or try to work the sysyetm.

I believe that the situation is ultimately affluential and self perpetuating. In my experience the so called 'better' schools are all in more affluent areas or attached to churches.
I personally believe that school funding should be based on population, i.e. so much per child. With this in mind it is not acceptable for church or other grant maintained schools to receive public money, effectively creating a two tier system
In simple terms if people did not cheat to gain access to the more desirable schools the problem would not exist.
If these 'concerned' parents patronised their local school, join their local ccommunity, support school activities and most importantly actively participate in their childrens education rather than relying on 'a good school' their children will do well. The majority of benefit gained from primary education is through additional support gained at home and activities outside school.
I have a son in a local school, I am from a catholic background, my wife is from a jewish background. Neither of us were prepared to lie or cheat to get our eldest son into school as what example does this give them? Dishonesty, hypochrisy? Not for my child!
