France v Ireland should be replayed - Liam Brady

France striker Thierry Henry admitted that he handled the ball shortly before setting up William Gallas to score in the second half of extra time - it was a goal that meant the Republic of Ireland will not go to the World Cup in South Africa next year.
Mark Lawrenson compared the deception as up there with Diego Maradona's famous "Hand of God".
Thierry Henry admitted straight after the game that he did handle it, but he didn't mean it.
That's not much consolation to Liam Brady - the Republic of Ireland's Assistant Manager. He gave an exclusive interview to us on 5 live Breakfast this morning where he told us that FIFA should replay the game and that he was deeply disappointed.

It won't be replayed. Blatter has got the seeded team through (which is what he wanted).

My wife came up with the answer last night to stop this in future and its so simple for the top level that it works.
If you look at wimbledon and other tennis tournaments the players each have so many challenges in a set and an extra one during a tie break. If you apply this to football each team could have so many challenges (made by the captain)which could go to an official with video evidence. If a team has used all of their challenges and a decision is wrong then tough luck (they should have used the challenges more wisely). If not then the Irish situation could be avoided.
It's time for change and this will still allow the game to flow

FIFA should do the only thing possible, show France what it really is, boot both Ireland and France out of the World Cup and allow Scotland to attend instead.

Reference comments of Roy Keane. Absolutely right! Makes a change to hear a former player being so down to earth. Mind you, if he's after the Republic of Ireland's managers job he'd better sort Ipswich Town out first!
