Rachel Burden's Great North playlist

Christopher Hunter | 08:58 UK time, Friday, 18 September 2009

rachel_burden_226x127.jpgAs you may know, Rachel Burden will be taking part in the Great North Run this Sunday, along with a host of other 5 live-rs.

She asked for your suggestions of motivational tracks to put on her MP3 player to try to get her round the thirteen mile course, and loads of you kindly replied.

All of which has led to the following playlist:

Time to Pretend - MGMT - Rachel's husband's suggestion
Rain - The Cult - Rachel's own choice
She Bangs the Drums - Stone Roses - Rachel once again
Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney - Rachel yet again - don't worry - she'll get round to yours in a moment...
Ernie the Fastest Milkman in the West - Benny Hill - from Dave Sykes
I Believe in a Thing Called Love - The Darkness - from Roger Patterson
A Light in the Black - Rainbow - from Steve Davey
I Like the Way You Move - Backstage - from George Riley
Got To Get You Into My Life - The Beatles - Rachel (again)
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen - Ben Thomas and Ann in Stirling
Gold - Spandau Ballet - Ben Thomas again
Original - Leftfield - David McNeill
Who Are You - The Who - Gary Smith
Beautiful Day - U2 - Aileen in Epsom (although she also suggested Two Hearts)
Can You Feel It - The Jackson 5 - Matthew in London
Highway To Hell - ACDC - (or Pat Cash) Fiona in Glasgow
Tropical Hot Dog Night - Captain Beefheart - Magic Ern
Sandstorm - Darude - Stew in Warwickshire
Moving On Up - M People - Kate
Chariots of Fire - Vangelis - Les, London
Last to Die - Bruce Springsteen -Chris
Heat Miser - Massive Attack - Juliette
Vid Spilum Endalaust - Sigur Ros - Mark in High Wycombe
Atomic - Blondie - Rhona in London
Good Day Sunshine - The Beatles - Rachel allowing herself the last word!

Disclaimer: This is a completely random selection and Rachel passes no judgement on the musical tastes of the Weekend Breakfast listeners - but places her faith in their motivational intentions.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Why would somebody take part in a great occasion such as this and then lose half the experience by listening to music?

Rachel. Where is "Keep On Running"? Spencer Davis Group - Steve Winwood on vocals. Good for at least two miles.

Time to Pretend? I have just checked out the track. It seems to be a paen of praise to - shock horror - fast living!

We are fated to pretend? lol

Stick Dire Straits' Telegraph Road and Pink Floyds Shine On You Crazy Diamond - both will pass fifteen minutes a-piece, and there's a long pumping rock instrumental at the end of TR.

Regardless of musical selection; good luck, young lady!!

Co-incidently, I was channel-hopping last night and saw an advert for a CD entitled "101 Songs To Run To..."
