Can men be trusted with power?

Harriet Harman's in charge of the country this week while Gordon Brown's away on his holidays -- and she's having quite a week so far. She's said men can't be left to run things - something that's annoyed her colleagues past and present - and said political parties should never have all-male leadership teams. Today's papers also report claim she's pushing policies that help women, like tougher rape laws. So - is she right? Should there always be a woman at the top?

BBC personnel. Newsreaders, correspondents, judges on TV shows.
I keep reading articles that seem to suggest it is rather knockabout in the Corporation as to rivalries between Financial correspondents and political ones. Alleged ageism and gender bias.
The number of visitors to particular Web blogs are counted and used as ammo it is suggested - appearance on different TV programmes like Newsnight etc or more importantly - non appearances and said shows.
I do not know if any of it is true but it came to mind reading this thread. Men and women in power and their - the genders - differences. Too much is made of the gender - look at the people. If they are all capable - they can all be men or all be women at various times. In whatever position. So long as the best person is chosen for the particular role.
I was recalling the film "In The Heat Of The Night" and what I think is the most telling line in the film. No - not "They call me MR TIBBS!" said by Sidney Poitier but the line in which Rod Steiger's - also a policeman looks at his "enemy" and realises he - Virgil Tibbs is human. Tibbs up to then stiffly controlled and affronted by prejudice - showed a fit of pique. Prejudices of his own if you like.
"So...You are just like us!" says Steiger' Chief Gillespie.
I remember it as "boy..." but recognising its context - will go with "so". Virgil Tibbs showed a side of him not seen before but was alway flawed and human.
I am now thinking of Beeb personnel - all who I had up on a "pedestals"
"So...You are just like us!". lol

It's the viability and workability of the economic system that runs society not the gender of economic managers or political careerist opportunists.
Yet another 'infantile' topic of conversation your editors choose to detract from discussing real issues!

"Harriet Harman's in charge of the country this week..."
God help us! Where this twisted, poisoned individual is concerned, of course men can be trusted with power! Give her any semblance of power and we're all stuffed - men and women alike!
