How is swine flu affecting you?

Post categories:

Nikki Brown Nikki Brown | 08:29 UK time, Tuesday, 14 July 2009

Tests are being carried out to determine whether a six-year-old child and a 64-year-old GP who contracted swine flu were killed by the virus.

Both were apparently healthy before they fell ill. Primary school pupil Chloe Buckley died within days of complaining of a sore throat.

Nearly 10,000 British people have been confirmed as suffering from swine flu. The government warns that by the end of the next month the number of cases could rise to 100,000 a day.

Are you a teacher, parent or doctor? How has your life have been affected by swine flu?

Are you changing your holiday plans as a result of the illness?

Is your business struggling to cope with the number of people off sick?

You can listen to today's phone-in on the podcast here.

I refuse to get swept up in this media hype. SARS? Bird Flu? Any other health scare of recent years? All overblown and over-hyped. It's sad for the individuals and their families concerned who have died but we don't know what other medical problems they might have had. Do you know how many people die of flu anyway in any given year?

I too feel sorry for anyone who has lost anybody, however, I cant worry about this. If I get it, I get it. Unless I want to completely isolate myself there is nothing I can do about it. Worrying, in itself, stops you doing the things you want. Life's too blinkin' short as it is, just live it and deal with what comes along.

I have no idea how they can tell the difference between a heavy cold, para flu or any other virus without testing. It's all very confusing.

I would also like to know how the disease is progressing in Mexico at the moment. Has it peaked, what numbers, deaths if any etc etc.

Why no discussion about how this virus evolved? i.e the disgusting practices rearing pigs and chickens by American Corporations down there in Mexico, so they can exploit the workers there and use bad practice.
Stop eating such meat! Eat only local produce and don't buy those supermarket meals which is where this s**t ends up.

It's not actually affecting in big way. I just become aware of the disease. But I become more conscious when I come across some cold affected person. Actually it's quite threatening.
