I have no memories of Jackson or feelings particularly about his life, but I do have a great feeling of unease about one part of his legacy.

For one reason or another I have been listening since this news broke yesterday on Richard Bacon's show, I then heard some of UAN and then Breakfast. I haven't heard anything about how his kids will cope with this news when after all they have been brought up so strangely, and how their freedom from this weirdness will impact on them.

I know his fans are absorbing this news but it does seem odd that this angle hasn't been mentioned.

The rest of this coverage does seem a bit over the top.

Congratulations British Radio! For the first time in my life (Excluding the death of Diana) you made me switch off breakfast coverage. I started on LBC but with its over the top solemn presenter, I switched to 5 Live - that was just as bad. I then sought solace in Radio 4, bastion of sensible broadcasting or so I thought! 7am news started with 4 minutes of MJ, I desperately clung on hoping that it would then end and it did for about 2 minutes and then it all started up again! For heaven sake! Is there no where I can get away from the over the top presenters and their never ending stream of opinions or the views of a journalist who once saw MJ once pasing a Tie Rack in Washington DC.

MJ was a singer, a good one, he was troubled and had a chequered past. He did not cure the worlds ills. I am sorry he has died and very sorry for his children. But get a grip.

It is a great shame that so many people will remember him more for his bizarre behaviour than for his music.

I would agree with Pete Waterman's assertion that "Off The Wall", the result of his collaboration with Quincy Jones and Heatwave's Rod Temperton was his finest moment musically.

I feel odd. I was never a fan of his music though it was impossible not to have been exposed to a good proportion of it and enjoy at least some of it. I've never bought any of his records and most likely never will. His private life seemed very strange and stressed.

    But I feel saddened.

a word to the fanatics: yes Michael Jackson was a brilliantly talented singer and dancer. He was also an extraordinary child prodigy and performed some great and memorable songs (didn't write of course - these were Motown Corporation songs. He then produced the superb original Off The Wall which is one of the great pop dance albums (Quincey Jones to be largely acclaimed for this) and Thriller which included three or four exeptional tracks and one legendary ( wanna be startin something). But after that we have had 27 years of mediocrity and we would have had 27 years of obscurity were it not for the child abuse allegations, the extreme plastic surgery, the manic retail habits, and the baby hanging over the balcony. And please remember that from Off the Wall until yesterday we had from him the same old dance routines - the spins, the moonwalk, the crotch grabbing, the head bowing and the same whooping and yelping punctuating every song he made. So let's not go overboard about his personal singing and dancing talent.
And here's the point: I am a Michael Jackson fan but it appalls me to have to listen to the BBC attempt to do another Diana on this. Richard Bacon started it last night when he offered his shoulder to the trickster Uri Geller to cry on and went on and on about what a tragedy this is. Nicky Campbell was worse and utterly despicable in his seeming fake wailing and gnashing. So let's hear some measured opinions on this, let's not have the mental hysteria that these broadcasters seem to want to stir up. Let's have proportion and some broadcasting responsibility. This is not a Kennedy moment as Bacon suggested last night. It's a sad passing of a man that made a contribution to our musical heritage. No more no less.

Pills, stress and mysterious injections already seen. No coroner's reports mentioned in any of them?

I heard ...... A friend of a friend met a bloke and his second cousin heard Jackson died whilst tieing his shoe lace......

Just thought I would throw one in for the heck of it. I look forward to seeing it laminated in tomorrows Daily Splurge along with the rude comments about people that particular newspaper do not like.

Unhindered by any facts. Comic cuts indeed. lol

Does the newspaper, internet media actually WAIT for some actual information before opening its collective gob? A lie is half way around the world before truth etc.......

I sneer - sorry I shouldn't - when I consider people are just rude or false about their subject just for the heck of it.

I for one - if being sneered at - better NOT find out I am telling a true story after all!

Truth has had 3 years to catch up with the errant "lie" I allegedly told. lol

Nicky really showed himself up this am.

MJ certainly was not a genius. He was a pop singer who sang rather lightweight songs very ably. The music is not deep but it is brilliant background music.

Loads of people are better singers than MJ, and of course his own written output is meagre.

    So why all the fuss.

Tell Nicky that people like Mozart or Sinatra deserve the title of genius.

Although Michael Jackson's music didn't appeal to all, he was, albeit his eccentric lifestyle, clearly talented and it was tragic he died at the relative young age of 50.

Jackson was found not guilty in a court of law so whatever one's thoughts are about what he said about sleeping with young children or hanging a child over a balcony he was unequivocally an innocent man.

However throughout his massively funded and media intensive coverage of his trial for child abuse offences it was obvious he was never going to be convicted!

The media in developed capitalist states like the USA and the UK revel in anything related to crime or issues like paedophilia as it serves as a massive public distraction to the failures of their own economic system. Consequently to convict a multi-million megastar adored by millions for child abuse offences that revealed he was a paedophile himself would have been both awkward and embarrasing for the United States both from a political and cultural perpective! The trial therefore was in many ways political!

As mentioned he was found not guilty. But because so many of his admirers never thought he could possibly be guilty highlights how the media in capitalist societies instil all sorts of corruptive and warped influences about the concept of guilt and innocence into it's audience!

If on the one hand someone is rich, famous and therefore attracts revenue and pays taxes he/she is innocent and every effort will be made to portray them as a model of excellence regardless of what their behaviour may be behind the scenes.

If on the other a suspect on trial is poor, bedraggled, unemployed, working class or uneducated he is automatically portrayed as guilty because they have less financial might or demeanour to fight back.

This perhaps is one key factor of Michael Jackson's legacy away from the musical aspect. Whilst political pundits rattle on endlessy on a daily basis about cleaning up politics it is in fact the media that needs the real clean up as it underpins the entire political system!
