The rise of the "thugette"?

Richard Jackson | 07:53 UK time, Tuesday, 26 May 2009

They're traditionally the victims not the perpetrators of violence but are women in Britain more aggressive than ever? Figures suggest that a quarter of assaults in England and Wales are carried out by women. What's you experience? Are binge drinking and a ladette culture making women go wild?

The model Danielle Lloyd is pictured in this morning's papers covered in blood following an incident in a nightclub. Are the streets not safe for anyone on a night out?

What on earth was that woman banging on about 'anger' on about. It's got nothing to do with anger, it's to do with a lack of self respect, ill discipline, lack of compassion for others, the thought that their rights are more important everyone elses oh .... and the consumption of gallons of alcohol.

I suppose asking people to post on your Facebook page nicely gets rid of all the older listeners who are not your ideal listener and wouldn't be seen dead with a Facebook identity. Surely you should be using a BBC page like this for comments and not spreading your net to Twitter and Facebook?

Zeldalicious is right, as usual, by the way.

zeldalicious i think your right about the lack of discipline self respect and compassion for others from the girls in this country and britain as a whole around the towns and citys some of the behaviour i have seen is nothing short of a disgrace i have never seen that in other countries around europe and the rest of the world the laddette culture fuelled with booze and drugs has made this country and others in britain a laughing stock the lack of morals and principles in there lifes and sense of community spirit is a huge factor in this how else can you explain there disgustiing and violent behaviour

by the way i dont think harry redknapp will be best pleased seeing one of his players in the nightclub scene and involved in a very unpleaseant incident after seeing ledley king recently all over the papers drunk and getting arrested these role models footballers need to get there act together and harry redknapp knows the booze culture in the club needs to be nipped in the bud very quickly or they will be out on there ear you dont see foreign players behave like that

I wish some of your listeners would stop looking at the continent with rose coloured spectacles hard drinking exists amongst young people (including young women) on the continent too; I have lived in continental Europe for the past 18 years, 8 of which were spent in Brittany as a student I have never witnessed so much drinking, sometimes lasting for 2 or 3 days. Children would smuggle bottles of vodka into the schools dormitories in which I worked and older pupils would go to the local pubs and bars during their lunch break, often returning to school completely inebriated.
Note also that in Spain, there is a phenomenon called Botellón , see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botell%C3%B3n for more info. This custom is spreading across continental Europe and several of these mass binge drinking evening have already been organised in the Swiss city in which I now live.

I think that this is just another symptom of the society will live in. Too often we hear about infringements of an individual's 'human rights' (ie the right to act without thought for the consequences). What is not spoken about is 'human responsibilities'. Until individuals are made to be held to account for their actions (fines, imprisonment, public community service etc) the situation will only get worse
