Should Pakistan be banned from international sport?

Nikki Brown Nikki Brown | 08:09 UK time, Tuesday, 3 March 2009

pakistan_gunmen203.jpgOn this morning's phone-in: Is it time for Pakistan to be banned from international sport?

Two Sri Lankan cricketers are in hospital and three others have been wounded after they were targeted by gunmen on their way to the ground in Lahore.

Five policemen were killed in the attack.

So is this the end of the road for international matches in Pakistan?

And should teams from Pakistan be allowed to play in other parts of the world?

Nicky Campbell will be taking your calls from 9am.

    Hi Guys
we r forgetting that during the taliban rule in Afganistan, all sports were banned, now taliban have got hold of a Pakistani territory, and they might try to assert their belief on the people of the country

    OF course not!
We all are aware that unlike soccer and tennis cricket is a limited sport but we all want to expand its fan following and territory. Therefore, we cannot ban the countries who are already part of this sport.
Instead of isolatng Pakistan from cricket, the whole international community should support Pakistan, atleast the countries who are part of cricket family should do so. After all what exactly is the purpose of sports? To build relationship, to spread peace and friendship around the world.
So at such a difficult times the other nations should support Pakistan to show the real purpose behind the sports.

No there is a talk for pakistan to play matches in UAe, or Dubai, which makes mroe sence. The country is in a mess, they have to deal and sort it out the problems in their country.
And they are fighting on side of US/Uk as their fingers were dirty with involvement with Taliban and Al-quaida

todays phone in nicky campbell suggested that the motivation behind the attack was religious, yet without any evidence.

he also suggested pakistan should be banned because of the terrorist acts.

now forgive me but why should pakistan be banned for the acts of some miscreants? if this logic was to followed, england, india, bangladesh etc would also be banned.

why was th discussion always curtailed by nicky at a point where informed callers were pointing out a perspective of the troubles, their possible roots that does not generally fit in with uk government, neo conservative narrative that we are supposed to accept.

really nicky should come to the table as an objective impartial presenter not one with an agenda.

dont believe me? listen to the show again.

As it isnt really apparent which group is responsible for this further attrocity and what their agenda is, the media should refrain from sensationalism and knee jerk reactions. What it does imply is that if terrorists want to attack someone and have little regard for their own safety, that there is no feasible level of security which will guarantee the safety of a sporting team.

Over the last few days it has become clear that the lessons from this dreadful incidence is not going to be heeded either by the PCB or the Pakistani government.
Chris Broad and the rest of the officials have all made valid comments suggesting that the security they were offered was inadequate.
I agree that 5 poilce officers lost their lives, but in the end none of the perpetrators of this act were caught. Where did the rest of the police disappear to? And why did they leave the officials as 'sitting ducks'?
These are the questions that needed to be answered and not statements made in the media by the PCB and former Pakistani cricketers (Javed Miandad, Aamer Sohail) that Chris Broad is lying. It is plain for everyone to see from the video footage that indeed the security was extremely lax and inadequate, and also the officials had been left to fend for themselves. The honesty and the dignity by which the officials have made their statements can only be applauded, however the converse is true of the Pakistani government and the PCB. They are being made to look extremely petty and stupid with their jibes at Chris Broad and it just goes to show that they cannot be trusted on the security issue ever. It is a sheer miracle that the Chris Broad and the umpires actually survived, and this can only be said that it was written for them to stay and alive and tell of their ordeal.
The one thing that has been made clear by the PCB's and the former Pakistani cricketers comments, is that they cannot be trusted with anyones security let alone players or officials .This just confirms my previous point that international cricket should never return to Pakistan while there are people like this in charge. It is wholly dispicable but typical of the whole official Pakistani attitude to these tragic events.
