U ask U2

Richard Jackson | 15:18 UK time, Tuesday, 24 February 2009

U2.jpg
They are reckoned by many to be the biggest band in the world. And on Friday, U2 will be the guests on Simon Mayo's programme on 5live (1-4 pm).

But - given the chance -what question would you ask Bono, The Edge, Larry or Adam?

Post your question here before Friday morning's Breakfast programme - and Simon Mayo will sift through them and pick one to ask during his interview with the band. It'll be Simon's choice alone - he'll tell us his pick on Friday morning and then you can hear him ask the band on Friday afternoon.

update Friday morning - no more questions please. Listen to the interview on Mayo this afternoon - the question Simon will ask is about U2 supporting Slade in the past

OK Bono - you've campaigned for more government money to be given to Africa - so why have U2 moved their tax base to Holland so as to pay LESS tax, thereby DEPRIVING government of money and KEEPING MORE MONEY FOR YOURSELF? And if you care so much about Africa, Bono, why are you sitting on an unused personal fortune of hundreds of millions of pounds and hoarding this, and NOT doing what you say others should do?

Why are U2 for tax purposes based in The Netherlands?

This is especially rich when Bono was moaning about Ireland not spending enough on The Arts.

Surely Ireland would have more to spend if some of the U2 money whent to their homland.

Wondering if the boys remember playing gigs with The Comsat Angels in the early days. There are quotes that the Comsats "blew those irish oiks off the stage!" But won't mention that.

What do they think of The Comsats returning this April at Sheffield's Sensoria Festival for a "one-night only" show?

PS - I saw U2 play the Limit Club / Sheffield in 1980. The club had a low ceiling - Bono climbed onto a monitor stack, reach up, and in true rock and roll style 'split' his leather pants!!! Now, Bono must remember that?

    Love to all

Why did U2 choose Get on your Boots as most recent single?

There are some terrific songs on new album - thanks Guardian and Spotify! - that would perhaps have been better choices.

How does the band see how the future of releasing records will change - in the light of the premature release of the new album in Australia and the consequent widespread illegal downloading?

Also, with downloads of individual tracks now widely available from itunes, amazon mp3 and others - does it mean that the end of the album?

Having legally listened to the album on spotify - where you can only listen to streamed music - no downloads - I think it is a really complete record - Best yet.

How intregal to the song "development" process are Brian Eno and Danny Lanois?

Also, picking up on some of the comments made on the Zane Lowe and Culture Show interviews - I really like the way the talk of redefining what rock n roll culture is - not dying by 33 years old and playing by the rebellion crib sheet of rules set in '76.

Please keep pushing at the boundaries - Rock n roll needs constant reinvention.
