Richard Jackson | 17:19 UK time, Thursday, 29 January 2009

The Breakfast phone-in with Nicky Campbell is going to be trailed on BBC television in the coming weeks. But you can see it here, now.

The whole Radio Five network is full of BBC adverts for itself, if you deduct ad time per hour how much programme content would there be in, say, Breakfast? Not much.

And now they are advertising themselves on TV too.

There really is no hope for the licence fee to be used for actual programmes whilst it is wasted on Ross, Wogan, Norton, adverts etc etc.

The phone-in isn'texactly the best of BBC Radio, most topics are light and fluffy and you can tell what will be chosen(mostly social trends)

I thought it would be better than it's turned out to be.

It would've made more sense to promote Simon's programme.

So when will Victoria, Stephen Nolan and Richard Bacon get the same treatment?

You already broadcast tv trailers for the sports output of Radio 5...pity you could not advertise Radio 5's news strand...though that's harder to do now as much of the station is on the lines of a magazine type tv programme such as This Morning...

Dire trailer for a dire programme with a dire presnter on a dire station.
Dread to think what Bob Whatshisname will do to Radio 2 if his wrecking of Radio 5 is anything to go by.

    Agree entirely with Academicplanner.
Some of us used to listen Midday news and used to listen to the european news segment from Paul henley, before it got cut.
I remember no debate about whether we needed another hour's worth of phone-in - we had 3 hours with Victoria aaaagh so why did we need another hour with Campbell ebven more aaaagh?
All part of the dumbing down of Radio 5 - it was meant to be news & sport, not phone-ins.
PS Fighting Talk I count as sport cos it's great.
