Crackers.....and choruses

Richard Jackson | 10:04 AM, Tuesday, 23 December 2008

The only people who work harder than Father Christmas and the reindeer at this time of year are the people putting together the Breakfast programme.

Ok - maybe a slight exaggeration, but it does take a lot of effort to keep the programme going over Christmas and the New Year.

We are on air every single day - the only concession to Christmas is that on Dec 25 the programme doesn't start until 7am. Apart from that we are here, as usual, every morning.

We hope that - amongst the latest news and sport throughout the festive season - there are some Breakfast treats too.

On Christmas Morning, we'll hear from many of our Olympic heroes from Beijing about what they get up to on December 25th. Find out which gold medallist is looking forward to four Yorkshire puddings with lunch - and why another prefers a spot of training to helping with the vegetables.

In the days between Christmas and New Year we'll also hear some amazing stories from people who tell us "I'll Never Forget 2008 because....." and , as we approach 2009, we'll also have a series of features looking back on things that happened in Years Ending in 9.

There was the Moon Landing in 1969, the death of Buddy Holly in 1959, the Hillsborough Disaster on 1989 and the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. All these and others will feature on the programme.

Then on the 29th December we'll need your help in choosing the Best Ever Chorus. We had a massive response a week or so ago when we sought your nominations.

Nine 5live presenters have now picked their favourites from the list - and three have been selected at random for semi-finals on the 29th, 30th and 31st December. Each day we'll ask you to vote for your favourite of the three - and the winners of the text vote will go into a final on January 1st's programme.

VOTING TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Voting is by text only. The numbers to be used will be given during the programme.
  • Vote lines are opened and closed as specified on the programme. Votes received outside the specified times will not be counted, but will still be charged. Voting times may change.

  • In the event of problems with the text vote, a respected music journalist will help us choose each day's winner
  • Please note that you cannot vote by email or via this website.

I must agree that the breakfast team does work extremely hard and get up outrageously early, I love Nicky and Sheilagh, they're simply the Tom and Camilla of the airwaves. I have also wondered if the BBCs breakfast shows across the corporation have a higher turnover of presenters than other shows due simply to the early hours they work? I have a small online eyewear company and although I don't get up until 15 minutes after the show has started! I usually pop into the office 7 days a week. However, having just despatched a pair of reading glasses to the beautiful city of Edinburgh, I have now closed the office until the new year and will certainly not pop in on Christmas day or Boxing day. I fully appreciate Radio5 will probably have a couple of really busy days, certainly with a full football programme on the 26th. Good luck and kind regards, Daniel Cullen.

Who is the gentleman alongside Shelagh I thought and then after two interviews which seemingly led nowhere - I thought what I have often thought? Thought before thought Jim.

Put the politicians and their "war cabinets" on the front line of battlefields and maybe "wars" would be resolved rather quicker.

Both sides spokespersons seemingly - allegedly? - say in effect "I will defend my sides views to the last man, woman and child".

To my mind it is too often the cry in this hateful world. And nowt gets resolved.

The last general public man woman and child that is.

Morning Shelagh. I omitted one word just then. Sorry. I will flirt with you again next year.

We never actually got the answer from the amateur boxing coach from Bethnal Green as to how many of the 200 fights in the olympics had a knockout?

May I suggest that as these fighters were the pinacle of the amateur system that they have the boxing knowledge & speed to AVOID Knockouts and the lower ranks at local level have more.
