Peter Purves and his autocue ban

Most of us grew up watching Blue Peter and today is its 50th anniversary.
Here's a fact for you. Blue Peter is the longest-running children's programme in the world and was first broadcast for 15 minutes on 16 October 1958. More surprisingly it was only supposed to fill a six-week gap in scheduling.
The Queen held a tea party for all the presenters yesterday to celebrate the 50th anniversary and we were lucky enough to be joined this morning by Peter Purves, Blue Peter's longest serving presenter.
He was on top form and told us how he thought Blue Peter and England have changed since he presented the programme.
Peter also told us how he was banned from using the autocue. Listen again to his interview below.
