Ok - I admit it. I'd never watched The Simpsons

I've finally done it. After years of other people talking about it and being in a kind of personal denial, I've finally watched an episode of The Simpsons. It was - of course - very very funny. It was witty and off-beat and I really enjoyed it. I'd banned it from my life when Simpson mania was going on a couple of years ago - but I'm glad I've finally caught up.
Other people wanted to tell us the gap in their cultural life too.
As you are discussing TV programmes this morning, it made me realise - with an incredible amount of dread - that from next week onward, yourselves, other presenters, others shows, on both TV and radio, newspapers and magazines will be awash with endless and inane drivel concerning Big Brother.
For the next three months plus, we will be subjected to pointless chatter about an insidious programme which appeals to the lowest, common threshold of intelligence in this country.
It is my mission this year to watch not one nanosecond of this bland, aimless vehicle for gossip and the endless drivel of no consequence which it generates. I shall de-tune Channel 4 from my television, so as to ensure that I don't switch over by accident at some point to watch someone eating, washing the dishes or even sleeping. I challenge your listeners to do the same.
A trip abroad would be most welcome during its run, as I'd sooner watch paint dry. If Big Brother is considered to be entertainment, then help us all.
As for the Simpsons, rock on.

I didn't first see Fawlty Towers until the last episode of the third series !

When I see trailers for programmes I make my mind up weather to watch them or not. Hence never seen any of The Simpsons, American Dad, that one with the Chef. The Office, which is a complete insult to the intelligence. Little Britain, a criminal theft of the licence fee. But then again, some people would not watch a Test Match for 5 days even if the outcome is a draw. Each to his own. Arsenal Bill from Portsmouth.
Never watched sopranos, bt dvd series 1, hooked, brilliant, dave, almondsbury
