Stevie Wonder - singing for 5 live
OK, it's not often I'm lost for words.
But when we suddenly got news while we were on air that Stevie Wonder was on the line, live from the Oscars - I blurted out "Stevie... I love you".
I meant it from the bottom of my heart - he's a hero after all. And Stevie isn't phased by such adulation - he's used to it I suppose.
But it did have one expected result - Stevie Wonder singing a 5 live jingle.

What is Stevie Wonder's real name? His original name. Does anybody know? It certainly is not any more real than the names I invent.
His birth name was Steveland Hardaway Judkins when he entered this world on May 13, 1950. he later changed it to Steveland hardaway Morris.
I heard this live, before the editing made the jingle sound better, and it was cringeable as the fawning Campbell had nothing intelligent to say. He was exposed and - it was toe-curlingly embarrassing.
Ah - not allowed hero worship, Mark Riley?
I will not name them - mostly dead - but I would stand there like a dummy if my heroes and heroines were SUDDENLY foisted on me. I think Mr Campbell reported it was a sudden opportunity.
More forgiveness needed? Stevie - "he just called" - and Nicky said "I love you!" LOL
I heard this LIVE and loved every minute. It was broadcasting at its very best - spontaneous, fun and original. Nicky Campbell is a superb broadcaster.
I also heard this LIVE and I cried, it kept me giggling all day much to the annoyance of my work coleagues. Nicky Campbell is, almost, a legend. Keep it there Nicky.
Heard this live today. more amusing than a whole week of chris moyles.
And even if Mr Wonder was offended Nicky, he wouldn't be able to pick you out.One of the beauties of the wireless i suppose. Of which you have a good face for, may i add.
I cringed when NC said "I love you"
I burst out laughing when SW started singing a Five Live jingle.

What a radio moment, I don't usually laugh out loud when lying in bed attempting to wake up in the morning but this was great.
It was the radio equivalent of The Office, but fair play to you Nicky - you sang with a legend :)
