One in Five Teenagers Drink Drive

Shelagh Fogarty | 05:34 UK time, Thursday, 30 August 2007

Good morning

This morning's top story on Five Live Breakfast - one in five teenagers say they drink-drive. But why do they do it?

Also, prison officers are expected back at work after yesterday's walkout. The government said it was illegal but union says it has no regrets. We'll discuss what the industrial action achieved.

It was a night of high drama in the Champions League at Celtic Park, as Celtic make it through to the next round after a tense penalty shoot out.

We'll also have all the reaction later in the programme. And we'll be speaking to Britain's new world champion, Christine Ohourugu.

Well yesss, this may be true, however all of them are dialing while driving... which is far more dangerous than drinking. Have you ever tried to operate a motor vehicle and text message somebody at the same time? Cell phones, it would seem, are much more dangerous than alcohol.

    Shelagh and Nicky,

Feeling indestructible - showing off - bravado or just stupidity. It is some of those and sometimes all of those.

These attitudes start at an even earlier age if you watch young people cycling on push bikes - completely hands free! My Cycling Proficiency Badge seems a long time ago watching that sort of behaviour. LOL

I can get out of their way but could cause them injury by deliberately getting in their way too. And pity the poor older person who inadvertently does.

So the statistic about on in five drivers drinking......

Ah, Paul - out of control cyclists or drivers - out of control people - keep your mind sharp - while that other matter goes on interminably. Truth will out one day. LOL

No, one in five drink-driveS. Two or more drink-drive.

With reference to the Christine Ohourugu debate, surely she cannot be included in the British olympic team purely on the grounds of reliability. Given how she missed the three drug tests, how can she be relied upon to turn up for the plane on time!
