What a load of rubbish...?

Shelagh Fogarty | 06:01 UK time, Friday, 16 March 2007

Good morning! Happy St Patrick's Day for tomorrow.

On the programme this morning....

Is the government failing people who want to adopt children from abroad? We'll hear from people who face a race against time to get the baby they desperately want to adopt.

Also this morning... How much of the food you buy is ending up in the bin ? We'll ask why we're chucking out so much food.

Why so many of us don't seem to think there's a problem. and have either of your parents got a degree ? That's what university applicants could soon be asked ......and not everyone's happy. Helping less-advantaged pupils - or social engineering? We'll speak to the experts.

And the Toon Army are let down again....Newcastle falter in Europe once more...and we'll look ahead to the Gold Cup at Cheltenham

The suggestion that government may be failing people who want to adopt from abroad will be of interest to me, for reason recorded elsewhere on this site. But it brings to mind certain female celebrities and the habit of them adopting from abroad - normally in the full glare of publicity. I can accept that Madonna is maybe beyond bearing anymore children herself but Angelina Jolie? Is Ms Jolie unable to bear children or Brad Pitt? - no Paul. The first rule of Fight Club! LOL

I do not care enough to check but NOT referring to that famous couple in particular the phrase of "too posh to push) comes to mind when I see the photogenic and adopted children flaunted by some of these well known people, normally via a nanny? I put them together with those heart rending pictures of starving and disfigured children in various charities newspaper adverts. My heart would leap if one of those was scooped up and borne back in triumph by Ms Starlet - I could briefly forget that a casting agent was being used just to make sure the baby matched the majority of Ms Starlet's wardrobe. But then I was born cynical and almost immediately in care.

And forgive my selfishness FiveLive listeners - what exactly is wrong with British based adoptees, whatever ethnicity, for British adopters?

My apologies to Ms Angelina Jolie and Mr Brad Pitt. I misspoke (Ken Livingstone - please note) A friend tells me they have a daughter - Shiloh Nouvel - don't ask - so I wish to correct that error in my earlier text.

The rest however I stand by - unless uou know otherwise LOL
