Ronaldo to RM.... (various papers)

Matt Williams | 10:04 UK time, Friday, 26 January 2007

After his antics against Wayne Rooney at the World Cup and then coming out publicly in support of a Real Madrid presidential candidate - it seemed guaranteed that Cristiano Ronaldo would be heading to Spain. But he stayed at Manchester United and became arguably the player of the season. ronaldo_cristiano_mufc_profile_2006.jpg

Now Real want to pay 50m euros for him - the 3rd highest ever transfer fee. United will be keen to hold onto him - their latest profits show they don't need the money - BUT Real have recently signed the biggest TV deal anywhere in the world and want Ronaldo to take over from David Beckham as the face of Real Madrid. Alot can happen between now and the summer and Ronaldo hardly showed his loyalties last summer but still I'm not convinced...

50/50 I reckon

Chances 5/10

The trouble with Man Utd's Ronaldo - he is not very "forward thinking". Unlike his Brazilain namesake who is like an Exocet missile towards goal, Christiano is more crablike - stepover, stepover and stepover.

A one trick pony almost albeit talented but Peter Kay's character could take him. "'avvit!"

And I get older ever time I watch Ronaldo receive the ball. I wonder if my lifespan will be long enough to watch Ronaldo actually pass the ball to another Man Utd player. Boy, the lad is hard work to watch.

I think you're being a bit unfair on Christiano Ronaldo there. The 'lad' you describe is very much the Ronaldo of last season, all flair and no end product ("full of sound and fury, signifying nothing", to quote the Bard).

This season, he's been entirely different: tackling back, working both wings, and yes, passing.

I would wager he's got nearly as many assists this season as goals...

Man United would be nuts to sell him, and as a United fan, I'd miss him terribly.
