Friday 19th January

Shelagh Fogarty | 05:32 UK time, Friday, 19 January 2007

Good morning. The main story on the programme today...

Another political voice wades into the Big Brother debate as Labour's chief whip, Jacqui Smith, says we should boycott the programme. Jade and Shilpa are up for eviction tonight- is it a British referendum on racism and bullying? We'll be looking at whether the Big Brother house mirrors the views of society.

Also this morning, the Health Secretary, Patricia Hewitt, has told the BBC that, in hindsight, a hundred thousand pounds a year for GPs is too much cash. And, after the gale chaos yesterday, the big clean up begins, but roads are still closed and train services are still disrupted.

And finally, in sport, we'll be previewing the big match between Liverpool and Chelsea this weekend, as well as giving you live updates throughout the programme on England's one-day match against Australia in Brisbane.

As a result of Big Brother, I have begun a campaign against Reality TV here in America via my blogs. I also hope to make comments on the 22nd of January for BBC Breakfast to see a Day in Miami Florida. For those interested in my comments on BB and Reality TV, this is my blog. Thanks BBC Five Live Breakfast.

So Britain voted for more grace. I was pleased and then.......

Some fairly desperate personages tried justifying Jades behaviour in the BB house by making Ms Shilpa Shetty personally responsible for the whole Indian caste system and mentioning the so called Untouchables who are treated very badly and only allowed certain roles in parts of Indian society.

Apart from the USA and Eliot Ness crime busting crowd - the Untouchables to me (in Britain)have normally been an upper strata of society or the very rich. We called some of them fops in the very old days and they hung around a previous Prince of Wales and in the Brighton Pavillion. They could misuse their menials but woebetide them if their cuffs weren't just so or they wore the wrong coat.

So Lord Puttnam wants a new modern day "FOP" then judging by his behaviour over the arrest of Ruth Turner. "Friends Of Puttnam" or "Friends Of Power".

Loyalty in friendship is admirable but his statements on TV and radio over the last 3 days have be amazing! Then he was followed by David Blunkett(Blunkett! as a referee for fidelity and trust?)and certain Government Ministers.

Ms Turner may be totally innocent but the police are being overtly told forget your several thousand hours of detection into "Cash for Peeraage" scandal - Lord Puttnam says Ms Ruth Turner is innocent.

Ok officers - let the woman go - Lord Puttnam would trust Ms Turner with his life it seems and also it is Government policy that only certain people can possibly be inconvienced by early morning arrest or be guilty of anything and anyone in Lord Puttnam's address book do not fit the profile. They are all "FOPs"

Gracelessness has just got a new face in my book. But then it was always there, wasn't it?

    Here goes, my first blogg

I was so saddened by the display of ignorance on both sides.
No one understanding where each was coming from! Why oh why can we not see?
I offer this a poem I wrote a few years ago

If I could teach the world to see
I would do it through closed eyes
If everyone was blind in sight
    and everyone was wise
They then would see the inside
    Not outward show of wealth.
    And perfection in the mirror
    could give way to health.

For we are judges of appearances
We judge on our we look.
    We only see the cover
It is time we read the book.

There are none so blind they cannot see.
i know you have heard it said
But have you considered just what it means
Not just a line you read.

Perhaps then you would feel the sunshine
    Taste the morning dew
    Listen to the skylark
    There for me or you

And when you listern to a friend
    Saw them through your heart
Oh what beauty you would see
And that would be a start.
And when you opened up your eyes now you have learnt to see
See a different point of view
    How Happy YOU would be.

Having whitnessed a very inteligient lady with manic depression giving evidence of bullying in a so called save enviroment what happened in the 'Big Brother House is just the tip of the Iceburg'

There but for the grace of God go I

Roberto, I do not know if you tune into Fivelive from over there in Miami but you and your blog about the ailing Castro got a (first) name check this morning here in Britain.

It is a thread proving very illuminating - so many lives with stories sad/tragic, mundane, happy and estatic. In other words. Life as it is writ

My view is that Castro has been dead for a number of days and his demise is being prepared for the Cuban people. But then as you know, conspiracy theories is my bag.
