Far from home

Richard Jackson | 10:23 AM, Wednesday, 25 October 2006

My wife and myself have lived in France for six years now. Each day we start the day listening to the splendid Radio 5 Live Breakfast Show

Just one of the emails we've had from listeners outside the UK. That was from Brian. And since mentioning that we've been inundated with your messages from all around the globe (well, almost. Anyone on the Flakland Islands listening?)

worldmap.jpg

So if you're outside the UK and dipping into Five Live - please post a comment below letting us know where you are. We might even raid the goody cabinet and send something to listener in the most far-flung/glamorous location. You could send us pics too of where you live to breakfast@bbc.co.uk.

And for all those asking why sporting commentaries disappear from the online feeds of Five Live - stand-by. I'm gettting the people who understand the terms of our contracts with the various sports bodies to compile a comprehensive answer.

I am a huge fan of Mark Kermode, so I listen to Simon faithfully every Friday. One of the few film reviewers I trust. And I've learned more about ranting from him than from any other mentor in my life.

I am also a committed listener of Drive, specifically of Peter Allen and Jane Garvey (no more substitutes, please!!!), whose repartee and professionalism are wonderful.

And who can say enough about lovely, lovely Rhod Sharp, who stays up all night to keep me company as I toil away at my keyboard, and who manages to see things in a way no one else does, and to be a very acute interviewer without ever being rude or arrogant or dismissive or hostile or biased. But we want to see him in his kilt!!!

    Thanks so much, Five Live!

I listen to five live every day online. It's fun and helpful as I'm a big fan of English football and also an eager English learner. It's informative as to what's happening on and off the pitch. And it's helpful in learning English. My listening ability has improved since I started listening to five live several months ago. Sometimes I still find the language too quick to make out but I believe I'm improving.

I really like five live so I think I should just let you know. Many thanks.

I also read a range of on-line news sources (BBC, Guardian) but I think the discussion of news on 5live really brings the news to life. I tend to listen live to 5live rather than listening to podcasts etc. After dark, I often switch to 1xtra, as it keeps me going... Just to join the list - find a way to broadcast the sports events its a real loss when they disappear.

Fox Soccer Channel on the TV broadcasts live premiership games on Saturday, Sunday and Monday - its only money surely!

Worked here in downtown Manhattan for 14 years - live in New Jersey. Other than at professional level soccer is the biggest sport there is in the USA.

Other than the lost broadcasts, FiveLive is the best.

    Hi guys,

I'm living in Hong Kong. I became addicted to BBC Radio whilst living in the UK, now it is an absolute lifeline to find out what's happening in the world. English language media here is nowhere near the high quality of the BBC. I love all of Radio 5, much of Radio's 4 & 1.

Keep up the good work !

I am an American and reside in Denver, Colorado. I heard about Gilles Peterson and started listening to his music broadcast. Then I saw Five Live and decided to give it a go. I fell in love with it especially the afternoon drive and Anita Anand.

I became a premiership league fan last year and appreciate more detailed reports about the players and teams that I would not normally get State-side.

    Cheers.

What was the difference between tuesday and wednesday??

I know cost is an issue. But if you advertise to listeners abroad it only makes sense to give them a way to participate.

But other than that it's great! Two thumbs up!!
