Who gets your Bubble Award vote?

Post categories:

Lou | 10:00 UK time, Tuesday, 15 February 2011

It's all kicking off... no, not Michael "Not in the Face" Moon's friendship with the Branning Brothers, but the soap awards season!

To really get the party started is the All About Soap Bubble Awards! The awards are solely voted for by fans, so it's the perfect opportunity to award your favourite actors and storylines in soapland.

The past year has been a FANTABULOUS year for EastEnders; full of thrills, drama, live action, births, deaths *Brraa-leeeeee!*, blazes, comebacks and teary exits.

EastEnders has been nominated in EIGHT categories!

You can vote for your faves through the All About Soap website.

Check out our nominees...

Best Actress - Jessie Wallace

Since Kat Moon's leopard print return, she's squared up to a few female residents, been banged up, shared infectious giggles, given birth and mourned for her baby. Her latest scenes have moved us all to tears.

Best Actor - Jake Wood

Good 'ol Jake has lit up our screens as Max Branning. From watching his son fall to his death to protecting Stacey until her departure, he's been a pinnacle in the drama over the last year.

Best Newcomer - Arinze Kene

Arinze has been nominated for his portrayal of Connor Stanley. The actor (and playwright don'tchya know) joined the Square as Billie Jackson's bicycle-riding mate, but went on to woo both Carol Jackson and Whitney Dean. WHAT. A. Player. But did he win you over as the charming two-timer (and his badboy sixpack)?

Best Celeb Style - Charlie Brooks

Do you love Charlie's (Janine Malloy) sense of style? If so, you can vote for your fave dresser through the All About Soap website.

Patrick's on hand to help Kim and Denise serve up the grand re-opening of the B&B. Rebranded as Kimberley's Palace, will it be more suited to a prince or a pauper? We're happy just as long as they do a good fry-up for breakfast...

Janine's in for a shock... from Grandma

Post categories:

Matt Humphreys | 00:00 UK time, Tuesday, 15 February 2011

Margaret Tyzack

Twisted, manipulative and damaged - all words you could use to describe Janine. Well, prepare to meet her maternal grandmother Lydia Simmonds, who will be played by famed theatre actor Margaret Tyzack.

A lady of class and dignity, Lydia loved her daughter June to death and couldn't stand the man she ran off with - common as muck Frank Butcher. Growing old alone, Lydia has a got a bit of a reputation with her neighbours and she's resigned herself to a life of solitude as her big house slowly crumbles around her.

Having been estranged for years, Janine is shocked to have Lydia back in her life but she's intrigued as to where it might lead. Does Janine want to look after her Grandmother during her ill health, or does she have more sinister motives? Sounds like a battle we can't wait to see on screen.

Margaret Tyzack has taken many prestigious stage roles and has received two Olivier awards, a Tony award and numerous other accolades for her theatre performances. She has appeared in two Stanley Kubrick films; 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange and is also famed for her memorable roles in The Forsyte Saga, I, Claudius and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Most recently she has appeared at Le Chatelet Opera in Paris and in My Fair Lady.

Margaret says; "I am delighted to be joining a great British tradition and a fine company of actors".

Bryan Kirkwood, EastEnders Executive Producer, added: "What a coup to have Margaret Tyzack starring in EastEnders. She is an actress of incredible class and talent. Lydia has endless possibilities as a character, and I can't wait to see Janine meet her match."

Is Heather too proud, or just let down?

Happy Valentine's Day!  Have you toppled over a mountain of cards this morning? Perhaps you've run out of vases to display your red roses? Or are you waiting for the Royal Mail van to drop off boxes full of gifts?

No?! Romance. Is. Officially. Dead. It looks like Heather Trott isn't so lucky in love either, or, quite frankly, anything else at the moment. Where are the violins?!

Perhaps Hev's just gotta have Faith, a-faith, a-faith...

Unlucky-in-love Hev's struggling behind closed doors to keep her head above water with baby George. Not only that, but it's one VERY cold winter and the single mum's unable to keep her electricity ticking over.

With armfuls of pride and a purseful of air, the poor love needs a lucky break. Although, if tomorrow night's EastEnders is anything to go by... I doubt she'll get one any time soon.

Don't miss Tuesday's special episode which devotes time to exhausted Hev.

Is our much-loved Heather too proud to accept help? Or have those closest to her let her down?

I'm hoping a knight in shining armour (with the name of George Michael), will come to her rescue, feed her from a cheese fondue and massage her pinkies...

Who said romance was dead? Oh, yeah... me.

Watch Tuesday, 15 February episode at 19:30.

Heather and Shirley put the world to rights after choosing their outfits for the latter's wedding to Phil. Have they picked out the right style to walk down the aisle, or are they divorced from any kind of fashion sense? We'd love to know what you think.

The perfect Valentine's Day is...

Post categories:

Lou | 17:45 UK time, Friday, 11 February 2011

The most romantic day of the year is fast approaching... Valentine's Day! It's a time to skip merrily through parks, giggle over soppy cards and pick at choccies. Or maybe not.

Cute Cupid may be on standby with her bow and arrow, but life in Albert Square on Monday won't exactly be filled with love hearts and candles.  Although, we can always hope that 'ol romantic Alfie may try to woo Kat back.  Yep, there's always hope.

So, what's the perfect way to spend Valentine's Day?  Are you itching for heart-shaped balloons and cuddly bears? Or does the thought of it just make you shiver and scratch?

Love Hearts

I've collared a couple of the EastEnders cast for their lowdown on the perfect Valentine's Day...

The lovely Jo Joyner (Tanya Branning) may have been struck by the luuuuurrrrve arrow: "I'd like to get a carpet picnic with lots of little bits, treats and Champagne and then sit by the fire having a good catch up!" Aaaawwww.

And charming Cheryl Fergison (Heather Trott) shares a tip we could all follow in every day life: "You should tell the people you love that you love them every day... not just on Valentine's Day."

And dreaming of a warm V-Day is Lorna Fitzgerald, who plays Daddy's girl Abi Branning: "I love Valentine's Day - it's so sweet.  I'd love to spend it on a beach somewhere really warm with loads of chocolates!" Bliss.

Here's hoping their nuggests of inspiration rubs off in Walford on Monday.

Or, perhaps you're in the pah-what-Valentine's-Day camp like Himesh Patel (Tamwar Masood)?  "My perfect Valentine's Day would be a day of pretending I have no idea who Valentine was and asking others why they're even celebrating it.

Basically, I'll spend all day being quite annoying" Himesh explains.  What a joker.

So, OVER TO YOU... the perfect Valentine's Day is...

You might have noticed that we've changed the website a little!

Here's a rundown of  the changes...

Catch up and preview clips

Catch up and preview clips are key reasons why you told us you come to the site, so we wanted to make it easier to access them. All of the video clips now play on the homepage, and from there you can click through to watch full episodes and read text descriptions.
