Has Eastenders been cancelled this evening because of football?. Eastenders is one of the only worthwhile programmes on t.v at the moment. Why force the entire population of Britain to watch a poxy game invented in the 19th century by Industrialists to keep the workers from realising how down-trodden they were.

  • Comment number 2.

@ Liz What are you on about? EastEnders was on Monday-Thursday. We got no less than in a normal week.

  • Comment number 3.

We get 30 mins less actually if you check your maths, and I agree with Liz, why do the only people who seem to matter in this country football fans? What would have been wrong with putting EE on BBC2 instead? poor show again BBC!

  • Comment number 4.

Agree with you, was looking forward to Eastenders on iplayer - I feel like football is in my face. I'd rather make my own choices what to watch. I understand some things may need to be shifted to accommodate "special occasions" (eg. football, coronations etc), but I think sensitivity should be given to the most popular of the other programs. For example, I'd much rather it were screened on one of the other BBC channels or at the very least on iplayer on the day it is expected.

  • Comment number 5.

i agree with sarahbennent...it should have at least been played on bbc 3 at 10 like it usually is....

  • Comment number 6.

Sooooooooooooooooo disappointed ! Why couldn't they have put it on BBC 2 or BBC 3 , one of the most popular soaps and they shove football on instead . I don't want to see every single bloomin match of the World cup !!! We pay for our tv licences and get this ! BBC you got it wrong again !!!

  • Comment number 7.

Andrew Rigney: we actually had eastenders on on Wednesday this week and we don't normally get it on a wednesday so we had the weeks worth!

  • Comment number 8.

    Why can't Thursday's episode be a 60 minute episode as well? :(

  • Comment number 9.

Oh great more messes up with the EE schedule . I hate the world cup so so much. GRR

  • Comment number 10.

With the football being held for the next month, due to the world cup, could it be possible to move eastenders to BBC3 instead or place it on BBC2, this will please everyone, for people who don't like football, instead of just cancelling it all together. We've already had alot of changes to the schedual due to the General Election, can it please be sorted so everyone can be happy and still have their favourite programmes at normal times?

  • Comment number 11.

Seriously? What is wrong with putting it on BBC2 or Having it on BBC3 at 10 like usual? or atleast make Fridays 60 minutes aswell so its like it was mon,Tue,Thurs and Fri

  • Comment number 12.

Hi everyone. If you are taking serious issue with the schedule changes, you can lodge an official complaint to the BBC here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/homepage/

  • Comment number 14.

Folks, the World Cup is like once every four years, sometimes changes have to happen....

Will everyone be slating the decision to not screen an episode on the Friday of Children in Need (once a year) or Comic Relief (once every 2 years)?

And as for moaning that it wasn't shown when Brown resigned and Cameron became PM... It was the first elected PM this millenium for god's sake - it was history.

Get a grip, we'll all still get our fair share of EE!

  • Comment number 16.

Great, yet more stupid decisions taken by the BBC, well done!

You wonder why your viewing figures are so low at the moment for EE, try not messing us around like this all the time! Put Eastenders on BBC2 and be done with it, or even better, put the football on BBC2/3/4, why the heck should the entire country have to watch that drivel just because a few hooligans want to!

BBC, you fail! I bet this comment doesn't get through..!

  • Comment number 17.

Oh, and thanks to the stupid football we ARE missing 30 "precious moments" or MINUTES to be precise of Eastenders.. THANKS A LOT!

  • Comment number 18.

sometimes we just have to put up with one or two changes and im sure that there is plenty of people out there that don't enjoy EastEnders and im sure that the bbc are doing there best to try and make everyone happy!

  • Comment number 19.

Yeah i think its stupid cos its not even england playing and there is absolutly nothing decent on tv anymore! BBC have gone completly down hill! why cant itv play it? eastenders is wayy better!

  • Comment number 20.

    barman_matt

I nearly fell off my chair laughing to hear that your 'HORRIFIED' EE isn't on tonight. Come on...such a strong word and over reaction to a schedule change. I am actually 'HORRIFIED' that so many people's lives seem to revolve around their telly and what's on.

The World Cup is only on every 4 yrs and MOST of the planet is watching it. It's far more important than Eastenders. In fact to draw a simple comparison for you guys and girls, if the football world cup was a planet, it would be the SUN. If Eastenders was a planet, it would be on the end of my keying. There not even in the same league so please give up because your all in a very small microscopic minority and the BBC is fully aware of this.

To comfort you guys some more, I would say that a massive proportion of this years license money has gone to paying for world cup broadcasts whereas Eastenders budget probably wouldn't even register on a chart or graph.

I know it's hard to hear but I'm speaking the truth. Well done the BBC. Such a fine job with the World Cup so far. Much better than ITV.

  • Comment number 21.

Oh god pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease put EE on BBC2 while this unbelievably dull football business is on.

  • Comment number 22.

I love each & every one of you Eastenders fans! I really do, because I love them as well! I live in the United States and can't get the Eastenders and cannot use the IPlayer. I traveled to England for many years and got the "Eastenders fever." A Public Television station used to show 2 hours of the Eastenders on a Sunday afternoon. I loved Sundays! One day, eight (8) years ago, they took it off! Do you know how awful it is to only see clips of episodes on Youtube? Well, a month ago I began an extensive search for a site that showed full episodes. Just when I was ready to give up I found one. I cannot get back the missed episodes but did start watching from about a year ago. So now I watch the episodes only a day or two late. I am so very thankful for being able to watch my favorite British soap. I guess what I'm trying to say is be thankful you do not have to go through what I go through to see the Eastebders...By the Way...it's fans like YOU that keep this show on the air! You are all great! Your American fan, Sharon

  • Comment number 23.

Well I for one do watch the world cup but I also don't care that it's only every few years! I want my Eastenders! I come home from work, cook dinner, eat then always look forward to settling down to watch Eastenders! This sucks that they're not showing it tonight! It should be shown as usual on BBC2, like it sometimes has been in the past! As for those of you saying there must be plenty who don't like Eastenders??? Who cares! Eastenders is a REGuLAR 4 days a week thing, anyone who doesn't like it probably has other stuff they always watched instead anyway!

  • Comment number 24.

For goodness sake, get a life. World cup only on every 4 years, EE on 4 times a week. Surely you can adjust your life accordingly or does your life revolve around EE?. I watch every episode but I dont mind missing out on 1 episode a week to watch a very important world sport event which may just bring the people of this planet closer . Well done BBC for trying to accomodate the majority of the populace.

  • Comment number 25.

I love Eastenders as much as you all, but come on, calm down, its only a programme.

  • Comment number 26.

I am one of the many people who HATE football and dread the world cup which comes around 4 years too often in my opinion!
Dan: Not everyone even wants to watch Children in Need or Comic Relief, either. That's not to say I don't offer my support to charities in other ways (I am currently a volunteer for 3 different charities and have also worked on the phone lines for these events in the past.)
And Mr Dingus: How is football an 'important' sporting event? Isn't it only important to the football fans and over-paid players??? And does it REALLY bring the people of this planet closer together? Quite a substantial claim. I have seen it breed a lot of discontent, personally.
I respect there are a lot of people follow the World Cup, but why does it have to take over BBC1? Why don't they put the World Cup on BBC2 instead? ^^

  • Comment number 27.

I love Stenders best BBc program by far

  • Comment number 28.

And the World Cup is only a game ^^

  • Comment number 29.

In reply to AlexJ comment it is NOT just a program EastEnders is a way of life
    Joke

  • Comment number 30.

Its a pity, my favourite soap is not on today, its boring with the programme

  • Comment number 31.

    Who loves Eastenders??????

  • Comment number 32.

@AlexJ its not the fact its only a programme its that there are few enough good programmes on BBC and I for one are fed up with having sport especially football forced onto me.

@Richard exactly the point really, why should my license fee go on football, lets face it football is only a game, and if history is anything to go by it'll be ripping South Africa apart with violence at some point

@BBC With BBC3 & BBC4 showing mainly repeats what would be the issue with putting sport and special events on them?

  • Comment number 33.

In response to the post by Abby Coppard (29)
    'Hear, hear!'
    :D

  • Comment number 34.

    Me!!! I love Eastenders!

  • Comment number 35.

I agree with AlexJ in the fact that its only a program but it is the best program shown on tv so there is alot of importance in that

  • Comment number 36.

Well done akashstorm thats the attitude i like to see

  • Comment number 37.

    Eastenders Deserves more gratitude
    Who agrees?

  • Comment number 38.

Again I am gutted . No Eastenders because of football again , You could have at least put it on BBC3 for us . The BBC do not seem to care for those TV fans who cannot get out because of disabilitys , yes your most dedicated customers . Like the other day when the only choice we had was football on one and tennis on two and a different football game on three and repeats on all the other channels . Great choice BBC and thanks for nothing . Do we , who do not want sport rammed down our necks entitled to deduct £30 off of our TV licence fees in compo ? I dont think so you Money grabing airwave dictators !

  • Comment number 39.

i am so annoyed with the changes! i love EE, it's the only thing on television i look forward to after work, and now its gone, for football! BBC should of put it on another channel!

  • Comment number 40.

    @akashastorm
Put the World Cup on BBC2! PUT THE WORLD CUP ON BBC2! OH MY GOOD GOD HOW DARE YOU.

Just for that comment alone I would put Eastenders on the Radio permanently

  • Comment number 41.

    @yummtheads

    Never heard of a DVD
    or the washing up

  • Comment number 42.

    @abbycoppard
Nope, As I said before it should be on the radio not TV

  • Comment number 43.

I hate whats stopping EastEnders from airing normal !! EastEnders is da best!!!! im a NO1 MASSIVE FAN EVER !!cant w8 4 enders 2moz 1hr!!

  • Comment number 44.

All I would like to know is; where is the 4th episode for the week? & Will we be able to see this next week, or online?
I am a huge EE fan, however I do not understand the 'horrified' people who are complaining so strongly. Re-scheduling is nothing more than impractical. We shall still get our fill of EE, as they wouldn't just drop episodes here and there, as they cost time & money to film. Also, EE knows that fans wouldn't be able to follow the plot with episodes missing. I think we should all just calm down & keep ourselves updated. :)

  • Comment number 45.

what the hell? As an expat who lives in Italy I am really fed up with this! First BBC Prime was taken off the air here, no fault to the BBC but SKYItalia, then we all had to find different ways to follow Eastenders. I do not watch Italian TV, unless it is a political programme, seeing as all they show are stupid series from years ago, 10 year old films, half naked women dancing at all hours of the day and night and stupid programmes so Eastenders is something I look forward too and I find out its being shafted to make room for the world cup!? Who cares about the World cup!? Grown, overpaid men (they are not sportsmen) who dance around a field for 90 minutes?! Football has gone downhill in the last few years and has been given too much importance, especially here in Italy and it is so sad to see the same thing happening at home!

Come on BBC pull your socks up and give the public, and not only the public in the UK seeing as there is also an American posting on here, what they want! Eastenders!!!!!!!!! Leave the football to other stations, and for the poster who talked about how much the BBC paid for the world cup rights, would it not be better investing our TV Licence money into, lets say, educational programmes which can be used around the world to teach subjects in English? Or a few nice documentaries? O what about if they had given the amount of money WASTED on the world cup to a charity? THAT would have been alot better and would have made more licence payers happy instead of being forced to watch an overrated "sport" with over rated and overpaid players and commentators even if it is only once every 4 years.

  • Comment number 46.

Another American Eastenders fan here! Please bring it back to the United States! (I know you're all talking about football and schedules, but I just wanted to add my 2cents).

  • Comment number 47.

Its only a schedule change, calm down :|

  • Comment number 48.

lol you people are all blinking crazy just watch the football and shut up lol eastenders is only a dumb soap its not the world cup 2010 lol u lot flip a lid, grow up and watch the football no wonder england never wins the world cup they have no support!!

  • Comment number 49.

Tony and the World Cup is only 22 grown, overpaid men dancing around a field for 90 minutes.

  • Comment number 50.

if people who enjoy watching eastendrs are crazy wel what about people who go carzy over football!!! its only a game at the end of the day get real!!!!

  • Comment number 51.

    Stenders is the best

  • Comment number 52.

i pray for you BBC you bought EE to our screens

  • Comment number 53.

I think EE is the best soap by far
    they invented the duf duf

  • Comment number 54.

Im fed up with EastEnders being bumped off because of the football or something-else. There is too much football on the Television currently. Cant the BBC make a separate sports channel available to all viewers (I.E. On FreeView / Digital / On-line / Terrestrial (for those unfortunate enough to have converted to a Digital format yet)). Or have EastEnders on the regular time slots but over on BBC three, (I.E. Monday 20:00 BBC three instead of BBC one?). Football is getting rammed down my throat at the moment and I am not happy with it, I mean its on BBC one then I go and turn the channel to the other channel that is on 3 (you know the lesser channel that BBC don't advertise on the BBC) and football is on there too. It is getting annoying. I know its only every 4 years but why doesn't the BBC think of us wanting to watch the likes of EastEnders instead of football, why doesn't the BBC alternate the channels like to have EastEnders on another BBC channel or available On-Line until Television showings of the episodes catch up. Come on BBC sort it out.

  • Comment number 55.

    this is so unfair.
why do i have to miss 2 episodes of my favorite soapie for soccer.
    its a stupid game.
11 man are running after a ball and when they got it they kick it away.

  • Comment number 56.

i can not delive that staecy goes into lauar with ryan beside her the fatther of the baby gril dont know why tayna sould say yes beacause they have had a neth trouble.
i love easteners sacey stay in eastenders with your mum.
    football is the best tony
    england is the best

  • Comment number 57.

Why should they have to cancel Eastenders due to the football!!!!! :(

  • Comment number 58.

I agree, there is nothing on TV thats good at the moment, i work all day and then am tired and dont want to go out on the town during the week so like to get home n chill out watching EE and the minimul amount of other worthwhile shows, i now have nothing realy to watch as footie is thrown in my face! why do i bother paying my tv licence for BBC when they have nothing i want to watch on!

  • Comment number 59.

You are pathetic. EE pulls in on average 6mn-8mn viewers. The world cup has billions watching, let me guess which BBC are going to get the most out of. EE is a good show but in no way a representation of East London.

This is a historic moment for African Heritage, and maybe we should let them have their time to shine rather than panicking about if we are going to know more about a poor boy being hit over the head with a spanner.

    Get A Life.

Utilitarianism - Google it, the most happiness for the most people...

More people will enjoy World Cup so BBC show it in it's place...

  • Comment number 60.

is very pee'd off that the footy has taken over eastenders on BBC1. I havent seen any announcements or adverts stating that it had been rescheduled. What are the bbc playing at ? The pubs are full of football fans, there are dozens of channels to put the footy on now that the majority of the country has digital tv there is no need to have sports on bbc1. Someone needs to get sacked for this, its not on !

    I LOVE EASTENDERS!!!!!11

  • Comment number 64.

    Tut tut BBC

  • Comment number 65.

I am OUTRAGED about My Eastenders being cancelled this thursday, i'm in hospital with not 1 but TWO broken legs and its the only thing thats keeping me going and sane!!!! I hope the BBC can sleep at night because i sure can't!!! Why BBC WHY???

  • Comment number 66.

Why can't they put it on instead of crappynation street or emmerdull instead or put it on bbc 2 why dose eastenders always have to come second over crappy boring sport?

  • Comment number 67.

    OK everyone -

    * I love Eastenders
    and
    * I hate football

But some people are taking it too far with the complaining over the changes. I know that I never miss and episode but even if they are changing some of the days just now they will catch up eventually!
That is the whole point in showing hour long episodes and showing it onj Wednesdays some weeks.
And everyone is the same so it is not like you will completely miss an episode. It is just going to take a few weeks for everything to get back to normal.

Despite this, I think they should show the World Cup on ITV or BBC2 but since they obviously won't we are just going to have to live with it until the World Cup is over

  • Comment number 68.

i love EE but i hate it when it ends so rubbishly

  • Comment number 69.

    well done chr well said

  • Comment number 70.

    Who loves EE here?????

  • Comment number 71.

jesus people, it's a soap not your life! i've been watching EE since i was like 6 but i'm not complaining about the changes, big deal it's on different times, cause the football is on, you should be glad EE is on tv! the bbc only has so much time, they can't put all the programs on, if the put another half an hour on bbc 2 all the other things won't be right, it's only temperary ( excuse my english, been living in holland for about 9 years now.)

i love eastenders, and try not to miss it !
but i also love football, and i hope england win!!

stop wasting your time sulking on here and go do something!

I'm going to happily watch the footy match in a bit, france-mexico,

    so later people!

  • Comment number 72.

If I had my way TVs would have a button that I could press so that I would never have to be insulted by football ever again.

As for putting EE only on BBC3 I would rather they didn't. For the last month I have not been able to watch BBC1, 2 or 3 on digital. I can barely watch BBC1 on analogue either - all these channels share the same broadcast frequency. There is nothing wrong at my end as all other channels are perfect. For some reason, in this area, the signal quality and strength for analogue channel 26 has fallen through the floor.

They are deliberately messing with broadcasts to experiment with how many channels they can squeeze in... at the expense of our viewing ability.

  • Comment number 73.

    steph--aniiee -
for someone thats not as sad to waste time on here sure has hell wrote alot!!
    pmsl!!!!!!!!

  • Comment number 74.

OH COME ON! The world cup comes around every FOUR years!!! Surely, a few re scheduled episodes are worth it! for a competition that the whole world enjoy! and its not like we will miss out on any EE! it will just be delayed!

  • Comment number 75.

I do not think many are complaining about the world cup being on. It seems to me that people are complaining that EE is NOT on, and with so many channels available I can understand that.
EE has repeatedly won awards due to its loyal fanbase (and its challenging storylines which are mostly treated with respect by a fabulous cast and scriptwriters). I feel it is a bad move from the BBC to forsake the loyal fans who simply want their 'piece of Walford' delivered to their front room. So the world cup comes around every 4 years... but that is not my concern. I am concerned that a precedent has now been set and that EE will be rescheduled for every sporting event.
BBC2 seems like a good compromise for showing EE, or... maybe the World Cup. BBC3, BBC4, Iplayer... there are many optons for showing such a popular programme instead of cancelling it altogether. How about an events channel to be added to terrestrial TV which could be utilised for things like World Cup, Olympics, Important news events, Eurovision etc...
Without wanting to sound like a flake, I am not outraged to the point of lodging a formal complaint. However, I do feel let down by the BBC on this occassion. Please, if anyone with the power to do anything reads this, try to keep regular fans happy in future and find some sort of compromise. Oh, and while you are at it... bring Grant back :p

  • Comment number 76.

Pagan Lyle - you have put it so well! I agree totally. As if the fact that EE has been rescheduled wasn't irritating enough for it's fans, we also get an episode less as well. So there is little consolation for EE fans who also happen to hate football. Come on BBC! Stop jipping the EE fans. We pay our licenses as well! :(

  • Comment number 77.

(PS) If she gets Grant Mitchell back on EE, can I ask for Sean Slater back while we're at it? :p

  • Comment number 78.

    or maybe beppe returns
    jummy :-D

  • Comment number 79.

    or maybe Archie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    :-D

  • Comment number 80.

I am soooooooo annoyed that we are being deprived of 30 mins of EE we pay T.V licences shouldnt we say what goes. Its sooooo not fair. Its all about the bbc trying to get its ratings up by having the football on. looking at the amount of complaints its doing more harm then good. Mr bbc you should be ashamed of yourself!!!

  • Comment number 81.

What a load of whingers. Personally I think EE has got a bit boring since the begining of the year and like someone said 'The World Cup' is only once every four years. Oh and by the way some of you guys should learn to spell correctly and learn your keyboards. Byeeeeeeeee

  • Comment number 82.

well,i am so sorry alis that i sometimes write incorrectly.
i am dutch and i only learned schoolenglish,so i don't know how to spell some words good.
but i an glad that we get this week the full 4 episodes.dutch tv is getting so boring with all that dull soccer :-/
