As the Doctor is able to travel through time, it's inevitable that his adventures have given us a peek at technologies and events before we've seen them come to pass in real life!

There are many examples, such as the Doctor's grand-daughter referencing decimalisation in Britain, several years before the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the UK would usher in this monetary system, and the Brigadier apparently talking to a female prime minister almost half a decade before Margaret Thatcher became the country's first female PM.

But now it seems that the Doctor's old friend - his sonic screwdriver - may be one step closer to reality! Check out this BBC News report for the full story...
