Teacher multi-tasks for Sierra Leone
- 22 Mar 06, 10:37 AM
There was an unlikely competitor for Sierra Leone in the men's 105kg weightlifting tonight - Anthony Soalla-Bell. Back in his home of London, England, he is better known as a physical education teacher. Added to that, this is the third Commonwealth Games event he has competed in in Melbourne. He has already tried his luck in the men's discus and shot put at the MCG. Unfortunately for Anthony, his technique let him down and he took a nasty tumble in the clean and jerk section of the weightlifting competition. He was unhurt and came off the stage to warm applause.

I understand your frustration JO. Channel 9 are pretty rubbish compared to the BBC. But you're not alone - as an Aussie living in the UK I have yet to see a single interview with an Australian medal winner on the BBC, or any ceremony at all where a "home nation" was not involved. Maybe they're just not showing them when I'm watching.
I get told every day at work that UK is beating Oz on the medals table, only to find that they aren't. That's the impression folks are getting though. Having said that,BBC coverage is generally very good and I'm as excited as anyone else to see how well Scotland have been doing. They are showing the public what they think they want to see - as is Ch 9.

I can't beleive how the game is ment to bring fairness and unbias results. I have noticed in the boxing on how the Bristish teams ALWAYS tend to be the best even if the are the worst. The unfair points appointed to them is so rediculous.
