Insects stopped play

Dramatic news from the Calcutta Cup bowls gold medal clash between England and Scotland which was delayed for 20 minutes after an invasion of insects. Reports vary between the insects being either ants or beetles but the groundstaff did not care which it was as they hoovered up the pitch invaders to finally allow play to begin.

Those insects were definitely beetles; even Aussie ants aren't that large. The delay didn't seem to upset England who marched through the second set and looked to be favourites at the start of the tie break. Alas for the contingent of England supporters, the Scots produced two shot bowls early in the first and second ends. England nearly forced a third and deciding end, but were cruelly denied when the officials had to use a telescopic lens to judge the nearest English bowl was out of bounds.

It was an exciting end to a long day in the sun. And what about the ticket price - just 13 pounds for nearly 12 hours of play. Not bad eh?

Sounds like dodgy tactics from one of the teams. Come on, own up, who let the 'ants' out?
