Ashley Jensen, star of Ugly Betty and Extras, is set to return to the BBC in a brand new comedy called Accidental Farmer for BBC One. A 60 minute pilot is currently in production by BBC Productions.
Erin Taylor (Jensen), is a high-powered, London-based, ad executive who has it all: the successful career, the stunning flat, the gorgeous boyfriend Mike. A control-freak who plans every aspect of her life, nothing takes Erin by surprise... until she discovers Mike in bed with a woman half her age. She wreaks revenge by abusing his credit card, buying, among other things, a run-down farm in Yorkshire. With Mike's scorn ringing in her ears, Erin decides to make a go of it. How hard can it be to run a farm? Little did she realise she'd be sharing a bed with Olive, an octogenarian sitting tenant; or fending off Clive, the inebriated handyman; or being shouted at by Judith, the horsey neighbour, or embarrassing herself in front of Matt, the dishy vet... not to mention living with a piglet. Erin hadn't imagined just how much she'd have to muck in.
Ashley Jensen said: "I am really looking forward to working in the UK again on Accidental Farmer and getting my feet dirty in a farm somewhere in Yorkshire! It's a great script and I love animals, though I have never worked with them before..."
Cheryl Taylor, Controller, BBC Comedy Commissioning added: "We are delighted that Ashley Jensen is taking on the role of our Accidental Farmer and very much look forward to seeing how an urban sophisticate gets to grips with country life."
The programme was commissioned by Jay Hunt, Controller BBC One and Cheryl Taylor, Controller BBC Comedy Commissioning. Executive Producers are Jo Sargent and John Yorke for BBC Productions and producer is Ellen Taylor. The writer is Daisy Coulam, and the director Mandie Fletcher.

More than a wee bit Baby Boom, but great nevertheless. Fab casting, particularly Erin and Olive. Hope this gets the full series go ahead...perhaps a nice post Countryfile slot? Loved it.

just watched "accidental farmer" bbc1 9pm tuesday 21/12 when is the next episode being shown ? really enjoyed this programme,would hate to miss the next episode?

I hope this is the start to a long running series. This 'pilot' was so funny, and the location outstanding. Ashley is a first class choice in the lead character. Just when is the next episode..??

Well done BBC, a decent program that was entertainment and enjoyable to watch. Make more of this 'accidental farmer' and less of the other trashy stuff that is found on more and more channels.

Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! Fantastic cast, wonderful script! Ashley Jensen was particularly great, such great comic timing! So tired of reality TV this was a well needed breath of fresh air!

Wow, this was really good. This is the sort of programme that the BBC should do so much more of. If this doesn't pan out to be a fab successful series, then shame, shame, shame. Great cast, great acting and especially uplifting when we're stuck inside with rubbish weather outside.

I absolutely LOVED this show! Great actors, very funny, good plot & just the fun & ammusing show that had me, my family & my friends hooked from the start and begging for more. I personally have never found a show that I can appeal to more and I am dieing to see it again.
We really hope it is carried on as I have no doubt it would be a great loss to TV viewers everywhere if such a fun show was tasted but never finished, please bring it back :)

Have been looking through TV listings for next episode of 'Accidental Farmer'. Until looked at this blog, didn't realise that episode I saw before Christmas was a pilot. REALLY enjoyed the programme. Ashley Jensen was fantastic, location spot-on, and other roles excellent.
PLEASE commission a full series as this programme totally deserves it!

As with comment 21 I too ended up on this while looking for the next episode. I thought it was a great pilot and would love to see more. I think the casting was good and script funny. Don't keep us waiting too long, might end up getting hooked on to another US tv show ;-)

This pilot was the best comedy I have seen for years. Perhaps it`s because we`ve all got a bit ( lot in my case ) of Erin in us. Not to do a series would deprive others of probably the best comedy series to be shown for a long time.Please let us all know when the series will start. THERE HAS TO BE A SERIES!

I loved watching her in Ugly Betty now here she comes again in Accidental Farmer.. Great news for Jensen fan like me... I know she is a very hilarious kinda actress and make us laugh. The plot is very impressive in Accidental Farmer...
