CoJo in Siberia
editor of the BBC Academy's language websites
Together with the BBC Russian Service, we launched the Russian CoJo microsite almost a year ago. Since then, the site has been doing exactly what we were hoping for: developing its own material, attracting journalists from within and outside the BBC, and attracting large online student communities.
The BBC Russian microsite has achieved around 9,000 hits in the past month.
One secret of this success is the way the service has promoted its CoJo website via tours of universities across Russia. Its latest trip was to six cities in September.
BBC Russian managing editor Dmitry Shishkin took the CoJo Russian microsite beyond the Urals to Siberia, to places like Novosibirsk and Tomsk. Shishkin says students in particular were eager to learn about how the BBC works.
The BBC College of Journalism has 30 language microsites promoting key learning points for best practice in journalism and the impartial broadcast language of each service.
