How about those Country File guys?

Chris Evans | 10:39 UK time, Thursday, 16 February 2012

How good is that show ? We talked to lovely Ellie this a.m. I understand she's even more personable off the telly than she is on. Apparently every male member of the production team is smitten. Add me to the list (it's ok, I've asked my wife's permission.)

So hey, everyone. Raymond Blanc tomorrow ! Who's not partial to a bit of Raymond on a Friday morning. There'll be more voilas than at the annual Ville de Parfait, Vol au Vent & Patisserie Convention.

A demain !

Peace and Love

Christophe.

    Morning Chris!

I was astounded this morning when Ellie said that John Craven has been on the tellybox every week in some way or another for the last 40 years! Most of us on here grew up with John Craven's Newsround and who can forget the snazzy sweaters on Multi Coloured Swap Shop (my Noel Tidy Beard crush has now thankfully abated) (although my love for Bob Geldoff remains as strong as ever ....!)

Do we get radio sub-titles with Monsuir Blanc tomorrow, or Ray White as he's also known as. Please can you persuade him t o resurrent The Restaurant - it was one of THE BEST reality shows on TV and I often think of Michelle & Russell who won series 2 and who used to provide the lunch buffets where I used to work up darn Essex.

One more thing - can you mention the blog every now and then on the radio? It's be fantastic to get some newbies on board - I'd hate to come back from my holibobs with no blog to blog on .....

    Muchos amore, and toast!

It's no good - can't stop thinking of toast so will have to have some for lunch! Just hope I can hold off until a sensible time. Crumbs!

Susan, I had to have toast for breaksfast.........then had to have some more as Chris kept talking about the melting butter!!!

    Aaaagggghhhh, my thighs!!!

Cheryl, The couple who came second I think to Michelle & Russell now run the white Hart here - can't remember their names but is said to be very nice

Leeky potato soup bubbling away just now - late lunch to make the most of it I think!

    Hello CE & Everyone (again)

No toast today for me, cereal this morning and just had a couple of sausage rolls from Paddy McGuinness's place. Now awaiting a home delivery and then off to pick up a prescription (detals weren't through from hospital and I wasn't sure what strength the pills were so had to phone back).

John Craven phoned my number in 1987! Someone not a million miles from here was on the show re millions of miles (well thousands).

    Hi All

A quick visit from t'other side - it's a bit quiet over there, with our leader off away becoming a TV star and all... Hope it doesn't go to his head.

    ;o)

Can I second Deevs' request to have this here blog mentioned every now and then on the show. You are a great bunch of folks, and very supportive - it would be nice to have that acknowledged to the nation! In fact, I first found out that Chris had a blog from him talking about it on air when he was on Drivetime - it was a while ago, and I think he mentioned a forthcoming blog meet (did you have one in the Liverpool area?). It intrigued me, so I looked the blog up and lurked for a while. And eventually that led me to Simon's blog when he started doing DT. And the rest, as they say, is history...

PS Jonathan Ross's researchers phoned my number too (when he did his CH4 show) but they thought the person was an adult so wasn't suitable for his show.

    afternoon peeps

Been MIA for a few days .... well OK more than a few, but must cite busy work days - no time to read let alone post - and busy evenings with rehearsals and choir as the reason.
Also was away with work in Lincoln for a couple of nights at the start of this week so v busy now BUT .... I was determined to catch up on all the goings on.

I agree that a bit more input from Chris to get us posting would be great and love Baggy's idea of him asking for a record suggestion or maybe questions for Friday's guest - if we thought he or his production team would read them then I'm sure we would have loads for Ray White!

Anyhoo, back to the grind - I've got to fill in an online Competancy Assessment Tool before close tomorrow and have only got to Q7 and there are 35 each withabout 6 or 7 sub questions. It's gonna be a long afternoon!

    ttfn, Crumpy xx

  • Comment number 8.

Deebs, we did indeed have a massive blog meet in Liverpool in November 2009. I think at the time it was the biggest to date (although it may have been usurped since then?).

Maddy - CLP phoned me once! It was when he was on his book tour with the first book, and Tiggy, Debs and Obamarama (I think) went to Bristol, and I believe it was Tiggs who gave him her phone with me on the end of it. I was in the office all alone and didn't recognise his voice .... when I asked "who is this please" he went "what do you mean WHO IS IT?!?!? It's me, CLP, Lamby Pies, Christoff from the radio" It was quite possibly one of the funniest moments ever and I believe there's pics of it on Facecloth on Tiggy and Deb's profiles.

    Hilarious!

    Afternoon.

I enjoy watching Raymond Blancs creations,& watched the last series regularly, but dont really care to watch him too much. I find him a bit "up himself " the way they all sort of bow and bob to him when passing him the ingredients - just my opinion :-)

Anyway, nothing else to report, just clawing through the week, which is dragging dreadfully .

    Au revoir,

    MC :-)

  • Comment number 10.

Thought I'd pop in as I have the time today! I have made some good friends on this blog, through conversations and then various meets! I feel that the show has become detached from the blog backside it is an after the event affair rather than an informant to the show in its old drive time days! Perhaps bringing back that informing role by looking towards the next show is the way to reconnect the blog to the show, that said CLP seems like so many to have evolved to twitter as a major source of input to the show, such is progress!
As for toast, with butter and some lime marmalade, or just with some baked beans! Pure heaven!

    Ah... arfternoon blogpeeps!

Swing pushing, lunch cooking, tent erecting duties done for a while. I kinda miss the blog (when I have time to) but have made some really good friends on here and don't know how I would have survived the latter stages of pregnancy without the constant that was the blog of old. I spent hours on here between work and rest. I have to admit to not getting twitter at all but have a soft spot for face-cloth as it gives somewhere to update with photos.

Must dash for now, have to buy more bread! (Wonder where the last loaf went... looking at the crumbs around the toaster kind of gives it away)...

    Hi there CLP and Deevs

Lashings of toast this morning with 'my mate' and home made 'marmaduke'. T'was nice to listen to most of the show this morning as the much beloved is missing in action 'up North'. When on my own, the radio is on all night, very low, but somehow it gets louder at 6.30!

Have suggested on Face ache that maybe Chris could introduce a 'blog spot' each morning (perhaps twice, so as to catch as many of us as possible). Will gladly take the credit if the idea gets the green light......unless of course someone has already come up with the idea.

    Steffi xx

  • Comment number 14.

Steffi - I've emailed Andy, Chris's producer with the suggestions made here and on Facecloth.

D'ya know, I still feel a bit wobbly after this flippin' anti-malaria meds. You don't have this kind of problem when you go en vacance to Clacton ....!

I've got a networking event this evening from 6-8 so I'm going to make some lightly spiced cookies to take along with me for my fellow attendees. Because I'm lovely ....! ahem

Good Afternoon Lovely People of the Blog,

I usually only catch the last 10 minutes of Country File, but it does look like the sort of programme I would like; and Matt Baker is very easy on the eye ;)

I'll just stick my tuppence in about the blog, sometimes Chris doesn't really give us a lot to comment on or discuss and perhaps that is why sometimes it's a bit quiet on here.....just saying.

It's lovely to see some old names pop up......but where's Scoobs???

I've had a right stressful morning, wrote a very long email and then deliberately deleted it as I may have been ostracized from the church if I'd actually sent it, but it made me feel better. But every time I think about the email that I received, which was incredibly rude and full of inaccuracies, it makes me want to slap someone!

    Just had a lovely coffee.....and relax :)

Love the smell of toast. white toast just cold enough to keep the butter from melting with peanut butter or thin mymate on it is my fave.

DD..i agree with your comments about blog detached-ness...it shouldnt take a call to arms from deevs to get us back on here..simons over the fence blog only gets so many comments because he asks for music requests and so involves the blog ( or so it seems i may be wrong and i am ,frequently)

Lovely day here in Fife - patio doors open, spring bulbs springing.....

Didn't catch the show this morning but I'll be listening tomorrow on my way to look after 6yr old and 1yr old, whose chicken pox has returned!

Deevs - a damned good idea, the blog hasn't been the same since Drivetime. Nice to see Crumpy, Dave and Steffi back though.

Perhaps Chris could mention our Edinburgh meet in June? It's looking good, lots of bloggers promising to be there and Rosie has offered to conduct a walking tour of the best bits of Edinburgh.

Oh, and by the way, I've spoken to Chris. It was the O2 event and Ali phoned me and passed the phone to Chris - I was truly gobsmacked, gawd knows what I said. I'd just come back from putting the bin out and was very discombobulated.

Sensible to take them a week before you go. My Doctor said to take them the day before I went, which I refused to do on the grounds that if I had a bad reaction to them I didn't really want to be going on a 13 hour flight!! I always took mine in the morning after breakfast.

Deevs, a wee extra bit of information.

Years ago my brother sent me a recording of a Radio 4 discussion on illness in Africa. Apparently this person (a young man) had an 'upset stomach' whenever he was working in Africa. So he decided to do something about it. He had a friend who worked in a laboratory and they cultured a worm (I've forgotten the actual name of it). Every time he went back to work he swallowed this disgusting stuff and never had an 'upset stomach' again.

    How horrible is that?

    Afternoon each,

*peeps round door, asks politely if she can pop in for a brew..and maybe a biscuit??*

Toast - I think I am in the minority here..really am not a huge fan! Might have about 3 slices a year and that`s as soldiers with a dippy egg... yummmm...

But, if I do fancy a slice then I need to have a selection of toppings available to choose from so there`s always lemon curd, strawberry jam (without bits in) and marmalade in the fridge... sometimes it`s not always mouldy either!

Malaria tabs made me feel really odd too for what its worth..but they are definitely worth fighting through the weirdness (although in my case it was difficult to ascertain which was the tablets and which was normal..... ). Hols will be worth it Deevs!

Right, I see no brew has yet been forthcoming so I`ll be off to pop t`kettle on!

And thanks to Deevs and everyone else (Ali!) for the rallying cry to get some of us back on here. In my case it purely is that fact that I`ve been snowed under with work.

But, some of you know where I live and work and if you see the news you will know the horrible thing that happened in my town, about 1/2 a mile away from my shop earlier this week.....the whole town is in a state of shock it seems and it does make you think about life, unexpected horrors and so on and realise that sometimes you just HAVE to make the time for things, and people that you care about...and this is my thing I am going to make time for.

And on that note I`m off to drink my brew, cash up and go home for a cuddle..if not with the GM then at least the original Scoobycat!

Be back tomorrow all...have a lovely evening..

Billie - where exactly is "down your way"? If it's anywhere near the border, I could maybe combine it with some of Mr B's ancestor digging (he's working on his family tree and most of them come from Shropshire)

Djeli - it's true that Simon's blog gets a lot of "mensh chasing" comments, but once that's out of the way (usually around 10.30 - 11) the talk turns to more general things. And we keep going when he's not around too, although it has been a bit quiet this week I'll admit. I can't remember how many posts there were over Christmas but it was well over 1000. Also he does read the comments, and he sometimes refers to what we've been chatting about in his next day's blog - occasionally even mentioning a blogger or two's name.

    Morning all

Great reading the blog this morning and to see so many of you nipping back in for a chat and some friends from over the Mayo fence too - fantastic!

I had a lovely thing happen last night at my network meeting - I was presented with a Certificate for Entrepreneur Of The Month! It was a total surprise but has really spurred me on (after holiday, obviously!) to get some more new clients. The only way is up.

The Certificate was for my hand-made, hand-picked cookie campaign. Basically over the last 4 weeks I've hand-picked and researched some local companies and "courted" them with various shaped home-made cookies and marketing leaflets/emails etc. I delivered some on Valentine's Day and one of them actually said "ah it's the cookie lady" !! It's not a high cost campaign but I'm hoping it'll reap the rewards eventually.

I'm off out today on the hunt for summer clothes and sun cream. Not the easiest task in February, I'll grant you, but after all the Christmas excess and upheaval of late, my summer clothes are a but "snug" to say the least ...... ahem!

Have a lovely Friday, however you're spending it.

    Good morning everyone,

Great to see so many returning bloggers!

Well, that's everything done and dusted, D's Mum's house emptied, keys handed back to the council, ashes scattered where she requested (all 6 of them managed to be there which was lovely), and his sister who lives in Devon going back home today, she has been up here now for 5 weeks so I'm sure she will be glad to be back home.

We are being taken our for a bar meal by our very good neighbours/friends this evening before D goes back to work tomorrow.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

I am still here but I'm not able to get on and post as often as I'd like, don't even lurk much these days, but I think of you often and when I need a friend I know you lot are always hers.

Chris, please talk about the blog more, we need it to bring in new bloggers

    Bonjour Christophe et Raymond!

What is it about a French accent? I could listen to M. Blanc all day! I do think that you (CLP) should stop teasing Raymond about his grasp of the English language though, as your French with a Warrington accent is interesting! ;-)

Well done Deevs on your well deserved stifficate! It takes a lot of guts, dedication and self belief to start a business from scratch especially in this economic climate. Live long and prosper!

I am one of the guilty lurkers, and due to new work commitments find it hard to sneak a few posts on the Mayo blog as well as on here. One good thing about the new job is that I am up early enough to hear quite a bit of Chris in the mornings. The man always delivers a great start to every day. Always 'glass half full'.

I was the madchickenwoman when I started posting on CLP's blog, now shortened thanks to, cake baker extraordinaire, KatyMatey, to madchickster! I love all the banter here, and have very fond memories of Beesmum's shed and her vast collection of shoes. And of course the FNWC and the tales of the Girl On The Sofa!
Meeting you all for the CIN 'phone duty (twice!) was fab.

And now we are one day nearer Le Weekend. Mange tout!

    Hi everyone:

Well, whatever has happened since I last looked on Tuesday ... the blog is back! Great to see so many lovely familiar names here - you have all been missed so much!
Unfortunately, I can't read all the comments - no time to do that - but it is wonderful to see a resurgence of this lovely blog.

I am having the busiest time at work in about the last two years - good to be busy, but this is a little overwhelming. So, no chance whatsoever to catch up - I hope everyone is ok.

Gail: I did see on Tuesday that Minstrel is back - how wonderful. And I am so glad everything went well on Monday - you must have been so proud of D.

Take care you lovely lot, and I hope to be back next week!

Can't believe I missed the velvety sounds of Raymondo! This was due to oversleeping after no sleep the night before while much beloved was missing in action......hey ho, podcast it will have to be.

Seems to be alot of folk with gunkiness(sp) and barbed wire throats, you poor peeps, hope you all get well soon. Nothing worse than trying to 'carry on' whilst under the lurg. AND so many different strains of lurg these days.

Change of subject - today I shall mostly be trying to sort the big 'd' word with the legal beagles and re-hashing the cv, which hasn't been updated for 20 years!

Have a lovely day all, hope to catch up again later.

    Morning all

Took ages this morning to catch up but all good.

Debs what is fairy marmalade, I am a jam (no bits) crunchie peanut butter or marmite kind of girl.

Got loads planned this weekend, other job tonight and tomorrow night, Saturday housework, still trying to get the house straight, carpet measuring man coming in the morning to get the final measurements and then on Sunday meeting our friends in Cheshire for lunch as they moved to Oldham a few weeks ago and it is her birthday next week.

So much for resting this weekend.

Deevs have a lovely holiday and enjoy your time with your mum and well done on your certificate.

DM - glad you got things all sorted it is always difficult but at least you all did it together, since my nan passed my mum and her sister seem to be a loggerheads over things hopefully things will calm down soon.

Hope those with the lurgy feel better soon

Deevs - well done you on the award. Lovely to know that your efforts haven't gone un-noticed/been in vain. What will it be for Easter ... little eggs or chicks?

Hoping to get away from work a bit earlier today - it was 6pm yesterday (after a 7.30 start) and with an hour each end travelling, it was a long day!

MagicBusDriver - please try to be nice! Sarcasm isn't big, nor is it clever. Is anyone doing any harm to anyone else here? Is there any bullying or nastiness going on here? I just really don't understand why you're wasting your time with us ordinary dullards when you so obviously seek a higher form of intellect.

    I'm back!

Shopping trip was a success. Thankfully sun cream is "BOGOF" in one of the main high street chemists so I managed to save about £34 on that one: all stocked up with F30, F15 and F8 - it's 32 Degrees out there at the mo. Yikes!

Also picked up a couple of bargains to wear which was a bonus.

Talking of cake (happy baking Billie!) I went to ELH to use the hole in the wall and the smell of freshly baked hot cross buns just drew me in .... and they're half price too. Ooooops.

Just mustering up the energy for a "trying on" session. I really do hate shopping.

Still loving seeing lots of posts - sorry for not name checking everyone but I really don't want to omit or upset anyone!

And I remembered another reason that I stopped blogging so much... let's not dwell.

  • Comment number 94.

Lyndy - I want my sunshine to come on: how'd you do that!?!?

See, I used to love FNWC. we had some real proper laughs. Things are different for me now though: "back then" I spent most Friday nights bored, as the Ex played on his Playstation, so FNWC was a lovely diversion. Now, Friday night is one of the few nights that Nic and I get to spend proper grown up time together without the threat of an alarm clock going off at 6.10 am. It's our "mad night" if you like! We're much more sensible on Saturdays as his lad is in the house with us so responsibility takes over, but Friday's ... they're special :-)

Mr Dissing - I seem to remember you and Mr Easy Job coming along to clear away the mess left in the hot tub and shed AFTER FNWC had left town.

Thanks for all your congrats on the stifficate. I'm still grinning and a wee bit disbelieving to be honest!

    Afternoon peeps,
Nice to see the blog so busy.
Really enjoyed listening to Raymondo this morning.
You commented this morning Chris, about the very high level of staff turnover in the hospitality industry, as some one who has worked in the industry for over 20 years I can tell you this is usually beacause most staff in these type of jobs are not very well treated and have to put up with unsociable hours,no breaks, idiot managers, ignorant customers trying to grope yer bum etc etc and all for minimum wage (some places even use the service chrge to make up staff wages) I could tell you stories mate, but I wouldn't want to frighten you! Not that all hospitality jobs are like this of course and I love my new job and the buzz it gives me (despite the four mile cycle) but I feel sorry for young people starting out in the industry because they do get the rough end of the stick and you can't blame em for chucking it all in!
Rant over, soz, dont think Ive ever 'done' one of those on here before, I am usually so serene!!!!
Glad the shopping went well Deevs, lucky you heading off to warmer climates!
Hope all you lurgy sufferers' are better for the weekend.
