We've Been Barlowed!

Chris Evans | 09:56 UK time, Wednesday, 19 January 2011

Gary Barlow - or Zen Master as I will now think of him. I've met GB many times before but never really "chatted" to him before today.

What a straight down the line, down to earth guy he is. There's no side to him at all, or at least it seems that way. He's just great - plain and simple. Happily married, fit as a fiddle, exceptionally talented and comfortable in his own skin.

Just popping off to try and be like him - I'll see you in about a hundred years !

ps: Watch Gary playing Top Tenuous, check out photos and listen back to the show here!

Great show by the way. I've always loved GB and thought he was the wisest/sanest of the lot ... plus of course he's both gorgeous and talented - lucky boy!

Deevs - well done on the quiz last night.

I didn't get to watch the Gypsy Wedding programme in the end but have recorded it ... it'll be my guilty secret when 'im indoors is otherwise engaged! Didn't touch the crossie either - too many students around. Oh well, there's always today's.

Chris, will echo the comments - Don't change at all. You're you and that's what we love. Anyway, check your checklist of Gary's attributes - Happily married, exceptionally talented and comfortable in his own skin? think you've already got those in the bag..............just that pesky colesterol to sort out!

Debs, Well done lovey!! Sounds like we'll all have to curtsey when we meet you next! Where will you be based?

    Have a good day all

    Good morning everyone,

Can't echo everyone's thoughts on GB as I didn't get to hear him!! (I'm in the huff now). Fab cake though.

Another beautiful day here in Ayrshire, a little bit of frost this morning but that's ok.

Very well done Debs, that is fantastic news.

Happy Wednesday. I'm off our for my tea tonight, going to a friends after work and then we are off to see Beryl in hospital who had a new knee fitted yesterday. She's 79 you know and the most wonderful lady you could ever meet, she's one of my bestest friends.

  • Comment number 14.

    Good Morning CLP & Everyone.

A nice sunny day here in Wirral.

Chris-I've always thought of Gary as being the responsible down to earth one (Capricorn-Earth sign) and Robbie Williams the crazy but more exciting up in the air one (Aquarius-air sign).

But you Chris have the best of both worlds possessing both qualities and you always Light My Fire (Aries-fire sign).

    I'll get my coat!

Deevs - hope the good luck from Debs will rub off on you soon x

Had really bad news from the hospital, Mum is deteriorating fast. It was horrid sitting with her last night & she didn't even know I was there.

oh, and sorry for not commenting on CLP post, I neither like nor care about Gary and Take That, so feel I have nothing to add.

made a mistake by sticking in a pink floyd album in on the way to work, got all the way there and still didn't get past track one - shine on you crazy diamond ;-)

  • Comment number 31.

Gosh. So blunt Baggy. Variety is the spice of life, and long may it live on!

(Angels still makes me think of you, purely because of how much you despise it!)

Chris, thanks for playing Go Now by The Moody Blues this morning (or should I be thanking Moira or Hells Bells Exec Prod?)

It took me right back to my childhood and my parents' pub - dad used to play Go Now as the last track of the night when he did his disco (Daddy Doubledecks!?!?) and I could almost hear him this morning "singing" along from the great Oublic Bar in the sky, as he turfed the punters out into the cold night air.

I wrote a piece for my writing class based around the soundtrack of my life and it's inspired me to get my finger out and set up my own blog as an outlet for my writing. No point in writing if it just lives in a folder in the wardrobe!

  • Comment number 32.

Last year I set up a blog and got bored with it after a week, nothing ever happens to me!

  • Comment number 33.

Deevs and all other job hunters - duley noted - I am going to be working for the Original recruitment agency after all - check them out - cater for all sorts including commercial, IT, and accounting!

And Deevs - about your dad and his bar in the sky - you know who would be propping that up every night to the very end with a large glass of red dontch! :-D

Thank you all for your whoo hoos, I feel very lucky to have it as they came to me,(although with 4 interviews they made me work for it!) but after what I went through last year, I really feel my vow to make this year the best ever has started well :-D

    laters taters

  • Comment number 34.

    Great idea Deevs.

It's not just about what happens to you but your perspective on the world, the people in it and life in general. Let everyone else decide whether they want to read it or not but enjoy allow your creative juices to flow!

I haven't been here for a while but lurking. So i'd like to just say that I love Jasper's perspective on life. What a lucky pup he is.

Mind you, sounds as though there are a few lucky pups living with their mistresses and masters from this blog.

  • Comment number 35.

Thanks Beany, yes, opinions, rants, ramblings - that'll be my blog!

Debs, so chuffed for you. And how much have I missed Beezer these last few weeks when going through my blue patch? The irony of it is that she would have been in driving distance so I could have hopped into the Mighty Micra and sped off for one of the infamous hugs!

Although, I've just arranged a Sunday lunch outing with the First Couple Of The Blog, MW,a! and Errol, and really, really looking forward to seeing them both - as MW,a! just said to me in a text, it's been far too long.

  • Comment number 36.

deevs - I hadnt thought about musings, I guess I dont have that many opinions :-)

And yes, I'm blunt, I guess that means you know where you stand with me and i prefer that then people who play games. I don't try and hurt or offend though as thats jsut plain rude. As far as gary goes I'm guessing he doesnt care or like me either!

Keep waking up with a start in the mornings knowing that I've been dreaming but no memories what off, just glad I'm awake, any ideas?

  • Comment number 37.

Well I've done everything possible to solve my computer problem of my credit balance going down until I have none left even when computer is switched off but still it's happening.

I've had a computer expert check out my computer and all's well there.
Last night when yet again my credit had gone I phoned My3 and explained the problem many times to many different people and finally they believed me and reimbursed some of my credit. But it's still happening.

So it seems that someone has hacked into my account and is stealing my credit. The reason I bought this computer and started blogging and chatting on facebook is because I took ill and can't get out very much.

So you scumbag whoever you are I hope you've enjoyed stealing my credit but don't forget about karma.

Many thanks to the lovely people I've found here and of course to Chris for this lovely blog, I'm going to miss you all but as soon as this latest top up has been stolen I have no choice but to switch off.

  • Comment number 38.

    Maddy, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Surely there is a way we can catch the barstweard who is stealing your credit?

I hadn't realised you could PAYG internet but I guess it makes sense

  • Comment number 39.

I don't know what else I can do but I can't keep on topping up only to find it quickly disappear. It's now getting to me and making me feel ill.
I don't use my computer for anything but the blog and facebook and usually one top lasts for a month with spare megabytes left over.

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 40.

do you connect your computer to a wireless network at home.

If you do, you need to check that no one in the area is accessing your network connection and taking all up your credit.

  • Comment number 41.

    Hello Nick.

No, no wireless connection. I'm simply plugged in and using a dongle.

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 42.

I would speak to your ISP and explain the situation for them to investigate. Surely, its their responsibility to ensure you are getting what you pay for.

You should ask them to check what IP address is using the credit as whoever it is will have a different IP address to yours and they can then go from there.

    hope this helps.

  • Comment number 43.

    Thank you Nick.

I'll do this as my next step, I can't give up and do nothing so will do this as soon as I've had a little break to prepare myself for the phone call.

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 44.

Maddy, it would be such a shame to give up something that you have enjoyed so much because of someone elses greed and nasty nature.

I have no idea about IT - i had to ask someone at work today how to use my new phone - as a phone! Ha

Anyway, hopefully Nick's suggestions will help

Nick good to see you are lurking :-)

  • Comment number 45.

It was good seeing Gary Barlow on today's programme but did anyone else think like my work pals, (two of them make cakes) that Jane Asher got Gary confused with George Michael on her cake she made?

  • Comment number 46.

always lurking me, one day it will get me into trouble.

Good news about your job, well done you.

    take care.

  • Comment number 47.

Maddy, my mum and dad had the same problem and their service provider was able to give them access to something that tracked what was being used at any time

It makes me so cross though that the user is expected to sort this out. You should be able to ring them and they should be able to fix them problem straight away

Isn't it cold tonight? I'm freezing bbbrrrr!

  • Comment number 49.

Just me, sticking me beak in as usual...

Maddy - this might be a stupid question (forgive me if it is) but do you switch your machine off at night, or do you leave it connected? Also do you have stuff like Automatic Updates to Windows switched on? It might be that you're only using the blog and FB, but if you've got `background' stuff running in the background, that might be using up some of your credit too.

  • Comment number 50.

`background' stuff running in the background? Where else would it be....

  • Comment number 51.

still at work la la la
    nothing balances la la la

  • Comment number 52.

Right. I am now home and calm. But ......

I had another job rejectiomn just after 4.30 which made me so very angry. I wanted to post and tell you all from work but was afraid I'd just break down at my desk. Remember that intervew last week for the demanding chap? His PA interviewed me, as she's due to go off and breed.

Anyhoo, the morning after the interview, the feedback from the agency was glowing, the only blip being concerns about my availability after hours for Mr Demanding. Today I get a call from the agency to say she is not going to proceed with my application as she has concerns about my relationship status! Now, during the interview she assumed that my husband had relocated to this area, hence my being here too, so the conversation naturally took on a "personal" path and I was very honest about my new status, the last 12 months, transitions etc etc.

To be rejected on the basis that I have left my husband for someone else and set up home in a new area is nothing whatsoever to do with a prospective employer, yet all I did was answer the questions put to me and converse with the interviewer during the interview (which lasted 90 minutes!!)

I have never been so angry or hurt after a job rejection in my life. I am now on the verge of completely giving up - it's just getting me down so very much.

Sorry to go on, but you lot are a fab support.

ps: Lin - thank you. Marlon is a very lucky monkey! xx

  • Comment number 53.

Deev - whatever your reasons for moving to the area, being judged on them is wrong and possibly illegal - it has nothing to do with your ability to work!

  • Comment number 54.

Just returned after catching up on stuff that's been neglected because of computer problems.

Uncle_Carl-I do switch off at night (at the mains) and during the day I shut down and remove the dongle when not in use. But I'm checking my account balance before shutting down and then again upon returning. And the balance is going down when shut down.

The computer expert thought it was failed updates causing the problem (which I had) but he removed all these and updates are now successful.

Going to phone ISP again soon and explain again (when I feel strong enough to be passed around to many different people, put on hold and listen to the music)

Thanks for help here, I will get sorted in the end.

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 55.

Just read your post. Your personal life whatever it is (and there's absolutely nothing wrong with yours) has got nothing at all to do with them. All that concerns is work related matters, what on earth is happening to the workplace in this country?

Don't let these types of people upset you Deevs and be thankful for the good things in your life. And be thankful that you are a much better person than these jumped up types who build up their own egos at other people's expense.

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 56.

I agree with Baggy, there is no way on this earth that lifestyle choices should cause a job rejection, can you say something to the agency who recommended you?

    Tiggs xxx

  • Comment number 57.

    Thanks Baggy and Maddy

I still think that the PA going off on leave felt somehow threatened by me. I keep asking myself that if Mr Demanding is so, so demanding how on earth is she going to cope when she returns from maternity leave? Maybe someone older than her, with more experience, and no ties in terms of little ones at home was a threat too much?

Anyway, I'm trawling the job boards now and have applied for a couple more PA roles.

And I wouldn't change my life for anyone or anything. I have a wonderful man and have never felt so loved in my entire life.

Just someone, somewhere ... plase cut us both a bit of slack in the job market! We're not "that" evil, really ....!

ps: Maddy - good luck with the IT probs. Nightmare! x

  • Comment number 58.

The Agency said she would make a call in the morning and "plead my case". After our phone call I emailed the agency and said forget it. I'm so mad at them (the company) that I'm not sure I want to work there anyway - I just wish they'd be honest with their feedback!

  • Comment number 59.

Deevs, I'm with Baggy, sounds out of order to me to and I'm glad you brought it to the attention of the agency. Mind you, how good would it feel to make them offer you the job then turn them down!

    Sezza xxx

  • Comment number 60.

    Evening all

Short one tonight (running late as usual, but just waiting for the washing to finish so it can begin drying in my absence)

CG: help yourself to the hugs, they're always here when you need them.

Deev: set a date for the girlie quiz and I'll bag some time off from the grindstone to come. Probably not much good as a team mate, but only one way to find out ;) Re: last job attempt, you're probably right, she feels threatened, and I'm glad you've told the agency exactly what they're like. Hope Debs tracks you down something to make you smile soon.

    Debs: congrats :)

MM: good luck with getting the vanishing credit sorted. We'd miss you.

Hugs to anyone and everyone in need of one.

  • Comment number 61.

Aw Deevs I am also with Baggy and others - that just isn't right and smacks of discrimination? When I used to interview people you would never ask them anything personal. I think our Debs should be able to answer that one though not that you would want to work for them but the satisfaction of telling them where to go eh?!

Whoohoo Debs - what a top job for a top lady. Now what's the betting a few bottles of chards might have to be drunk to help you celebrate!!

Love to all but esp CG xx

  • Comment number 62.

Evening CLP and the rest, sounds like you enjoyed having Gary Barlow guest hosting the show this morning! I used to be a huge TT fan but can't get into them so much nowadays, their music isn't my cup of tea now that I'm older. But like Baggy said earlier I'm sure GB won't be losing any sleep over that!

Hope you get your IT problems sorted soon Maddy, all this modern technology we have now is great when it works

Deevs I agree with Baggy and Maddy. Your personal life has nothing to do with your ability to do a job and I think the PA was just looking for an excuse not to proceed with your application. If I were you I wouldn't want to work somewhere that turns down applicants on that basis!

Hope everyone has had a good day

you need to get your Bingo on to it .

Hope to see you around for a long time to come .

    Best wishes to you Maddy.

  • Comment number 71.

    Thank you Bids.

I think I know what the word is, I have a few words of my own which would be moderated here for certain.

I phoned both the computer expert and ISP again tonight, both very helpful but the more I speak to people the more conflicting advice I get. I know they can do that sitting outside thing and connecting to phones and the same applies to computers I'm told but I think that's with a wireless connection.

One person says I can get a new number and dongle, the other says no, something in the computer is causing it.

I think when this top up is gone I may switch off and have a break anyway while I'm still sane and recharge my own batteries before taking it up again.

I'll certainly ask Bingo to have a look at it when he's here, he knows more than me.

    Just a quick pop by...

How nice to see you Lin, we must indeed have a get together to help Debs celebrate !!

I wanted to say CG, please keep talking to your Mum. There is a good chance, that she is able to hear you. When we spent the last day with Mum, we had no response and as I was leaving to get home to my littluns, I said to Mum, 'I'll see you tomorrow Mum' to which she replied.. 'Ok Sallie'

Everyones situation is different I know, but my advice (without meaning to be intrusive) is to keep on talking to her. Lots of love to you and your family right now.xx

Marj, I will send you my mobile phone number, if you dont already have it?

I hope it gets sorted for you asap. It seems so unfair that you are being cheated out of what you are entitled to.

I would like to keep in touch.

    Thank you MTF.

I will get it sorted, I'm not one for giving up but it is getting a bit much. Now the failed updates has started again too.

But as I say, I won't give up just have a break maybe.

PS I had a thought that if I saw someone sitting outside in the car park using a computer I might go out to challenge them and they could be totally innocent. It would be just like it for something like that to happen to me LOL

Marj, did I see that you are an Aries?

  • Comment number 82.

No MTF- I said in today's post about CLP being an Aries and am I right in remembering that you are an Aries too?

    I'm a Cancerian, 5th July!

Ahh, sorry Marj, i havent had time to read all of todays posts properly.

I saw a sign of determination there that reminded me of myself.

I have been through a lot recently, of little things chipping away at me and am not going to let it get me down.

I have a new theory in life and will be posting it tomorrow.

I just have to get it 'word perfect!'

  • Comment number 84.

Looking forward to your new theory MTF.

I try not to let things get me down but seem to get caught up in all the madness.

Life is very short really and should not be spent getting in a state about things that don't really matter.

Anyway it's time I was going to bed to get in a state about whether or not I'll sleep ha ha!

    Goodnight MTF

I didnt get a job because I am too nice (have they met me) and another one becuase of my personality (or lack of one), I think employers are a lot more picky now.

    Good morning ALL,
On rising this morning I see that the garden has had another white make over ,looks quite pretty, and maybe it's because I'm viewing it from indoors.

Have a nice day all and take care out there and stay safe.

    Morning all!

Coffee morning over for another week. Always makes me laugh when they all bring something for the raffle like a packet of biscuits or bottle of handsoap. I'm sure they all take the same things home half the time!

Sun is trying its hardest to shine here today - hope it is for you too

CG, (((xxx))) Still thinking of you
