Moira's Off (But She'll Be Back In A Month)

Chris Evans | 06:38 UK time, Friday, 17 September 2010

Moira - she goes!

Selina Scott, she comes!

It's a fair swap, I have to admit. Like bringing Shearer on for Lineker. Moira goes Stateside, Selina arrives from her goat farm in Yorkshire.

With this latest news about our newsreader, and having spent yesterday making a film for The One Show about The Goodwood Revival - when I was greeted with the surprise when I arrived that I would be taking to the skies in a 1943 North American Harvard aeroplane - the last twenty four hours have turned into another "pinch-me" moment.

In fact over the last few months, I've had so many of these moments, I'm in danger of severe bruising

Roll on the weekend. Have a great one.

Morning CLP a nice early one there!

Pinch me moments - they are great arent they - for me one such moment was when Bingo Star, AliB and me where sat on your sofa in the dressing room at the O2 in December with Sally Traffic getting into her jeans before our very eyes!

oh, yes, what a day and night that was.......

    Happy Friday everyone!

  • Comment number 2.

Good morning everyone from a beautiful sunny day here in Ayrshire, only 7 degrees mind you when I got in the car at 7.30 brrrrrr!

Every time we go walking somewhere beautiful and it's silent apart from the birds singing - that's my pinch me moments, and they are frequent.

Sorry to hear your news CSN, thinking of you and your family.

Hope everyone has a good weekend whatever you are doing.

  • Comment number 3.

    Morning All,

Happy Birthday Mrs Evans - have a lovely day xx

My pinch me moment is when I am down at my sisters in Sands of Luce walking on the beach no one else around and just the sound of the sea keeping me company - heaven.

Re: signings - I have received a msg from Chris's PA. Sadly no book signings are planned apart from the Cheltenham festival.

Hi Gail - have you recovered from you cycle ride?

Hi Debs - wishing you well with your recovery, just take it easy though. No dancing on the tiles just yet ;o) xx

CSN - sorry to hear your sad news.

    Hope you are all well.

    Mary xx

  • Comment number 4.

Pinch me moments? Far too many to list over the last 10 months, and all thanks to my FantasticRolastic. However ..... meeting CLP for the first time and then being interviewed on stage at the 02 in December is deffo up there!

Not all pinch me moments are good tho. I immediately think of Tuesday 8th June 2010. One of the saddest days of my life. TTFN my lovely friend x x x

Day at work here off to a BAD start. Electronic doors operated by computers are great, when they work! When they fail and you have tenants yelling at you at 8am telling you how much money they are losing because YOU can't get them into their office ..... get me outta here!

Afternoon off today. Can I ask for good vibes of love and good luck at 3pm today please. I think you can all guess why .....!

Finally, when CLP played Super Trouper this morning would you Adam and Eve it if I told you I was immediately taken back to my majorette days, where that particualr track was our opener to our 3-song display routine. I could still reocunt every single move, every baton throw, every twiddle - all I needed was my baton and green leotard and I'd have been there!

    Laters amigos

ps: colleague has just given me a matching set of necklace and ear-rings she made last night to wear later for good luck. Awwww x x x

  • Comment number 5.

csn - huggles to you at this very sad time x x x x

  • Comment number 6.

Hi Mary - long time no "see", believe it or not I was fine after the cycle, even though I had done no training whatsoever, but I do ride and walk almost every day.

Watched Strictly which I had sky+sd from the weekend, and I have to say it looks like it's going to be a good one this year, it's one of my favourite programmes.

  • Comment number 7.

    Good Morning CLP & Everyone.

    Happy Birthday Chris's Mother!

A brighter day here in Wirral.

Looking forward to tonight's One Show CLP, have fun in the 1943 North American Harvard plane.

Right, what to do today, will it be housework or something more interesting?

    MM x

  • Comment number 8.

You've already been in the 1943 North American Harvard aeroplane!

  • Comment number 9.

LOL Maddy, I thought it might have been Chris flying over our house just now, in it, until I re-read the blog.

Morning all, from a chilly, but beautiful Somerset.

My pinch me moment is when I sit up in bed every morning and take in the view from my bedroom window.

I do believe that most of the best things in life are free.

We are enjoying watching hundreds of geese flying past very early in the mornings. Lots of 'honking' beats the alarm clock anyday!!

Actually, I think they have even silenced the pesky cockerel too!

  • Comment number 10.

Very short morning this as have to take trip to orthodontist with boy1 & his brace! The joys of parenthood eh!

Think my pinch me moment might come this weekend in a "Why did i agree to go up in this glider! Someone pinch em and wake me up pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese!

Deevs, got 'em crossed for 3pm. I know what you're up to though and I still think trying to gatecrash the papal visit through the skylight is not a good idea!!

    Seza xx

  • Comment number 11.

    Oh dear Seza

I cannot believe you agreed to do that!!!! Wally! Good luck with it though and let us know how you get on! Oh my, I feel wobbly just thinking about it!

Deevs, I agree with Seza, but as long as you have your full "stealth" suit on you should be OK.....

Maddy, come down to Brizzle and help me in the great british pasty off!

Hello to Mary, Gail and MTF too - and anyone else lurking

    Right wheres that rolling pin.....

  • Comment number 12.

    Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! You blimmin' rumbled me!

  • Comment number 13.

My stomachs rumblin, when are those pasties coming out of the oven Debs?

Seza, how awesome,I would love to do that. Much repect!

Debs, where were the Red Arrows flying yesterday? The presenter on BBC Somerset, said he had been to see them.

I have just treated my puter to some diet coke, if I vanish at any point, that'l be the reaso

  • Comment number 14.

Hmmmmmm. Bakers Oven cheese and onion pasties. Hmmmmmmmmm ..........

  • Comment number 15.

Debs, Pics of the pasties please (on FB), my mouth's watering just thinking about them. When we were at the Horse Trials in Blair Atholl there was a stall selling pasties, I had a haggis one for my lunch and it was fab!

    Enjoy this afternoon Deev!

  • Comment number 16.

MTF - some time around 1-1.30 all going well! Come on round :-)

Not sure about Red Arrows, I didnt get a fly past :-(

right, sainsbugs delivered, I'm going in, I may be some time.....

  • Comment number 17.

Or Debs Cornish pasties a la Brizzle!

Should Hollands pies be worrying I wonder?

Looks like the puter didn't mind the coke too much. Its the Scrumpy Jack that its not so fond of, still all the more for me.

Strictly evenings only, I tell you!

  • Comment number 18.

Oops, 2 posts sneaked in there, during my speedy typing!

On the 'must try one day' list goes the Haggis Pasty, nice one Gail, sounds yummy.

  • Comment number 22.

    Good Afternoon CLP and blogpeeps

First off - I love Selina Scott, she looks and sounds like a lovely lovely lady. So I look forward to hearing her next week.

Just wanted to mention that I'm off to see the Glasgow Warrior boys tonight, with Max Evans on pitch. But wondered how Thom was doing? No mention at this end so perhaps you could give us an update Chris?

Also Rips, Warriors v Wasps in October, but down your neck of the woods so doubt will manange along!

Happy Birthday Mrs Evans - loved chris's birthday song to you today. Must be lovely to hear your boy telling you he loves you on national radio!

Nice to 'see' you here MWK, shame we won't be meeting up at the Glasgow book signing! And hi to ChrissieS.

Have a good Friday one and all.

  • Comment number 23.

At this rate you should have enough to fill book no.3 by this time next year!

Selina Scott sounds interesting - Anna Ford a bit too fierce was she? ;O)

I have some curious thoughts sometimes - for instance, using the first 3 letters of a person's first name and the first 2 letters of their second name gives Chrev, Jonsa and Moist...told you it was curious...
The O2 just before last Christmas would be a pinch me moment - still can't believe I was actually there!

  • Comment number 24.

    Afternoon each

Hope Moira enjoys her break. Not sure about Selina - it's the voice I think, not much emotion and a bit flat.

Might not be here tonight, have friend staying so hope you all have a good FNWC.

  • Comment number 25.

PS: Hallo Mary, what's happened to Chrissie? Have missed her.

And my thoughts are with CSN and HLS today.

  • Comment number 26.

Hi all, yes Annie, I have been wondering where the lovely Chrissie has been, not like her at all so hope all is well xxx

    Right pasty watch.

Took two hours, a labour of love (took your advice CG about slivers rather than chunks). They look fab, the filling is delish and perfickly cooked and the good news is that if a miner had to take one of them down the pit and got bashed about a lot, the "pastry" case would definately be in-tact! They might need a pick axe to get to the filling but boy it is good when you get there!

    Advice anyone???

    debs leadenhands

  • Comment number 27.

    LOL Debs.

So the pasties are truly Cornish!

That's what they were designed for (miners, farmers & fisherman) to put their dinner in a strong pastry case.

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 28.

Right, have to switch this off now - friend is almost here.

    Deevs, hope 3pm went ok.

Debs, glad the pasties turned out ok, even though you need a hammer to get into them!

    Have a good night everyone.

  • Comment number 29.

Right, having survived "pasty-gate" I feel I need some further in advance sustinance to ward off any pastry related indigestion - so I hearby declare

    FNWC open !

Chards I am coming to get you

have a good weekend everyone, I'll check in tomorrow to let you know I survived the night!

  • Comment number 30.

Enjoy Debs and Annie! And well done on the pasties Debs!

Just rang my sister, and the poor girl has had to have her old dog put to sleep today, she's in bits, poor love!

Am just going to pour myself a glass and celebrate Friday night, it's been a long time coming!!

I've been wondering where Chrissie has got to as well, sent her a messsage on t'other side a while ago, but not heard back....Hope she's OK!

    Nic, that's strange!

Right, of to sort out some tea...

    JG x

  • Comment number 31.

3pm went ok, I think. Just need to wait now. And wait. And wait. But I have another "3pm" at 4pm next Wednesday so the photo shoot has been postponed as needs must. If you get my drift.

Wine o'clock here. My favourite time of the week!

  • Comment number 32.

CLP, I for one will miss Moira’s dulcet tones in the morning, but Selina a game girl and you should have fun with her too. You are a lucky chap and yes – you have the best job for you... and thankfully for all of us...

Oh – pinch myself moments – been a few – one that springs to mind is having a drink with George Best, years ago... he was sober and I was not!!! He was gorgeous and I wasn’t blond!

But, as you all know, it’s my family... I look at my boys every day and although they are not perfect - and it is precisely because of their foibles , that they are the best they can be, good, and balanced young people, that I love them so. I think they’re gorgeous (I would) but it’s their all round loveliness that makes me pinch myself - I mean - how did that happen? And my Mum, my goodness... as time goes on – it is such a privilege to have her – another pinch! I make no apologies for gushing...

And Deevs – you are right not all ‘pinch’ yourself moments are good!

Have a great FNWC... the bar at my place has just opened and TFIF....

    Suzie... xxx

  • Comment number 33.

    Pinch myself moments, hmmmm

Our 4 hours at Mercedes Benz world, and me getting to do the 4x4 course..scary, but brilliant! Wasn't so keen on sitting in the back of an AMG E Class around a racing track...with Mr JG driving though!

Deev, I'm with you on that one too, really missing our lovely friend!

Book signing at the Trafford Centre too, meeting CLP, but also the lovely folks from here too!

Anyhow, it seems Mr JG has everything sorted for NY in a few weeks, and Suzie, we must chat about that Scottish thing we talked about!

Also, still have 8.5 days holiday to take, any ideas, one of the girls at work suggested a boat thingy in Turkey???

    JG x

  • Comment number 34.

    I'm back

Friend brought her laptop and we're playing wordscraper against each other, sat at the kitchen table!!! A pair of saddos.

    JG/Suzie: Scottish thing - goodie.

  • Comment number 35.

JG - I've done the Turkish Gullet (spelling probably wrong - but why change the habits of a life time!) thing - marvelous... and...

Annie, JG - Scottish thing - is a deffo from me...

  • Comment number 36.

Oh... oh... that's another pinch moment, off the boat in Turkey... swimming at night in phosphorescence... hmmmmm x

  • Comment number 37.

    Evening CLP and bloggers,

Life should be full of pinch me moments, and pleasure can be taken from the smallest things.

Hope everyone is ok this Friday eve,

PS JG/Suzie: What's this about a Scottish thing?

  • Comment number 38.

Rosie, they're planning to come up and annoy us early next year!!!!!

    Good, eh??

  • Comment number 39.

Hiya... the "Scottish thing" is a bit of a walking break in Scotland, wild winds, furious sea, blowing the cobwebs away... open to all... I am most definately going - even if it's on my own...

    Night all - Suzie xxx

  • Comment number 40.

    Annie: Yay!

  • Comment number 41.

    Hi all.

Just landed and need my breakfast.

Quick read back over and then will pull up a bar stool, probably to be by myself as is the usual Friday night trend.

One of these days I will be around for early doors.

Debs, if you are around, or read this back over in the morning....

I shall be round at yours just after lunch time armed with my secret weapon for successful light pastry.

    Food >>>>>

  • Comment number 42.

The Scottish thing sounds like fun: plenty of stunning scenery here, weather that will blow even the most stubborn of cobwebs away, and plenty of pubs for post walking refreshment!

Off to bed soon, sniffing and sneezing today, and another day of work in store for tomorrow

  • Comment number 43.

Oh dear Rosie. I started sniffing and sneezing, eyes watering etc... last Thursday and it still hasn't gone!!!

    Good luck. xxxxx

    What a beautiful morning!

But, brr, what a chilly night!

Out came the second duvet last night which resulted in a really good nights sleep.

Final moving day today, for the GD up to Brizzle, cant say I am looking forward to the climb up to the 12th floor again, but will pace myself and enjoy the views from the windows during my climb!

Right, just to load up the Puffball, then its off we go.

Best wishes and positive vibes being sent to those that need them.

    Onwards and upwards.

  • Comment number 49.

whoop whoop I have a fairy on her way - will reveal all later what her "secret weapon for pastry" is!

Good luck with the stairs MTF!

Hope everyone has a great weekend planned

    Happy Saturday

  • Comment number 50.

    Morning all

It's Southport air show this weekend, so have had all sorts of old aircraft flying over this morning, no Red Arrows though yet! It's a shame it's not a nicer day, as there's a lot of low cloud, and it's threatening to rain. We went a few years ago, and it was the same then. Still it might be nicer on the coast.

Anyhow, I'm going to get my car washed, and head off to get some shopping before meeting up with the lovely Daydreaming Daisy for a coffee.

Enjoy your mini-meet too Debs and MTF - 12 floors without a lift, plus luggage? Rather you than me MTF!!

    Happy Saturday everyone!

    JG x

  • Comment number 51.

    Evening each

    Dearie me, where is everyone?

  • Comment number 52.

Annie, I was thinking the same thing!

Had a lovely time with DDD!

Am about to get tea dished up!

I can't believe only Annie has posted since me, is the blog now officially dead? S'ok if it is, just let me know...

    JG x

  • Comment number 53.

Just popped back for a look.

    There's a party somewhere, isn't there? And I wasn't invited!!!

  • Comment number 54.

    Me neither Annie!!

    JG x

  • Comment number 55.

    Back from Brizzle.

Third full loaded car, of GDs belongings now up on the 12th floor.

Thankfully, JG, the goods lift is working, albeit by some guy sitting on top of it and winding it manually, not a job I would fancy, no siree!

Then picked the Debster up, just as the A380 airbus was removing her chimney!!

I was shaking so much at how low it was, that an executive decision was made and we hit the pub!

Spent a lovely couple of hours giggling about things, including, upturned wheelchairs, thats a story for another day!

So, headed home, stopping off at ELH, filling my trolley up with the usual GD requirements, only to realise that they weren't needed. Its very weird and will take some getting used to. I now live in a male dominated house, or so they would like to believe!!

On my last stretch home, there was another 'sun dog.. (Seza.x) and then driving down the last hill, on came...

    The Candy man!

    Perfick end to the day.

JG, just read back over your post and see that you had a mini meet too.

Hoping to make York and catch up with more, as yet, not met, Bloggers.

Plus the ones that I have.

    Is anyone out there??

  • Comment number 56.

I think I'm going to stick to Twitter, the Dragon's are realy cracking me up!!

Oh, and the Phil Collins special!

And for that reason, I'm out!

Not feeling to good at the moment.

JG, glad you had a lovely time with DDD.

    csn. xx

  • Comment number 60.

    Evening CSN

Things will get better, although I'm sure life doesn't feel like that just now.

  • Comment number 61.

    Thanks Annie.

  • Comment number 62.

    Very busy Annie.

There was an open day for 30,000 Airbus workers and their families. Bristol was heaving. I had no idea how huge the Airbus was until it passed over Debs house, it was almost like being on the runway!!

As I left Bristol, they were just launching a few hot air balloons for an evening flight. Much more sedate, but not sure if you would get me up there.

A friend of mine was given gift 'balloon flights' as a wedding present and despite turning up several times, still hasn't managed to get off the ground yet, due to unsuitable flying conditions.

  • Comment number 63.

You certainly wouldn't get me anywhere near a balloon flight MTF.

Well, am taking my cough to bed. Have water and book, I think it's going to be a long night.

    Night all.

  • Comment number 64.

    That cough is lingering Annie.

Have you tried a good old fashioned steaming??

  • Comment number 65.

You cant beat an early morning call from about a hundred geese flying overhead.

Dont they know its a Sunday?

Another chilly start to the day, definitely Autumnal.

  • Comment number 66.

    Morning everyone!

Yes, didnt we have a fun time yesterday MTF - and she is not joking about the Airbus being so low, and she really was shaking!

It was just a shame it was a tad chilly to sit outside, but very nice to be taken out on an "airing" and have some company in person rather than virtual!

Bacon butties and coffee all round?

  • Comment number 67.

There's nothing like three good sporting challenges to wake you up on a Sunday morning.

I am exhausted now though, and that was just watching them!!

Love the ironing board Chris, hilarious.

Oldest son gave me the Life on Mars DVDs months ago as I'd never watched it, so am going to give it a go this afternoon. Think chocolate might be involved too.

  • Comment number 70.

    LOL Marj!

Actually, it was nice to have a 5 minute break on this supposed 'day of rest!'

  • Comment number 71.

What a super way to spend the afternoon Annie. Enjoy.

  • Comment number 72.

    Hello MTF & Annie.

    Enjoy the DVD Annie.

Actually MTF I didn't get to see all the video myself and I was hoping no rude words were going to be said LOL.

It was interrupted by a phone call from the RSPCA and I now feel bad about what I said and posting the link but that was then.

What a weekend I've had. The little stray cat moved into the house a couple of days ago and I've discovered she (I think) is not well. I won't go into detail but there's been a terrible mess and I've been cleaning and disinfecting and the washine machine's been busy.

It got too much for me and I contacted the Cats Protection this morning who said the RSPCA will help if an animal is ill. So they are being very helpful and will call in the morning to collect the little cat, take her to a vet and keep her for rehousing.

What a relief it will be!

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 73.

How kind of you MM, to take the little cat in - hope she gets a good home.

Just popped back to say - LOM is good, eh? Can't think why I didn't watch it when it was on TV. Almost finished first disc - seven more to go!!!

  • Comment number 74.

Well, really enjoyed Life on Mars first disc.

Off to forage in fridge, back later folks.

  • Comment number 75.

What a busy day. I didn't even get as far as the garden.

After stripping all the beds and grabbing all the bath sheets that I could, the intention was to get the whole lot washed and dried, as it has been a lovely warm, breezy day here.

    That was until....

The washing machine made the most horrendous rattling sound, like it had swallowed pebbles, on a light load that was already washing.

So, washing is stacked up, I have done as much hand washing as I can. Hurrah for keeping hold of that old Creda 'debonair' that was destined for the dump years ago. I simply have never been able to wring washing out.

Also decided to shampoo all the downstairs carpets and the carpet shampooer decided that it going to play up too and spew water out at the rate of knots!

So, all in all, a not so restful Sunday. Going back to work tomorrow for a rest, as you do!

Now cooking a roast for 3 instead of six and am so used to filling the pans with veg, etc, that I have had to roughly work out how many spuds, etc...

    Ooops, somethings burning!!!

  • Comment number 76.

Ps, Annie, does the Gene genie do it for you too??

I hope that JG is wrong and that this quietness is just a blip. I have a note in that my home interweb is playing up (we are lucky if we get an hour a day....) and it is not possible to get in at work. I am lurking though and look forward to reading you all at lunchtime.

    Hope everybody is well.

Feeling very slow and sleepy this morning. Not sure if I dreamed about anything really, slept so deeply!

I did say yesterday "Next time...."!!

    Loving Selina this morning!!

Debs, good luck with the shoe shopping!

    MTD, Note noted!

Baggy, yes we are meeting, no, I don't have your number! At least not now as have swapped phones around the family and lost some numbers. Can you send it on t'other side please. I'll let you know there when I get in and you can say where i should meet you.

Good Morning Baggy, Debs & Mtd.

Not a bad day here in Wirral!

Debs-good luck with the walking, stretching and strengthening.

Baggy-thanks for the song and don't work too hard.

Mtd-I too hope that the quietness on here over the weekend is only temporary.

The good news here is that the RSPCA have just been and the little stray cat will get veterinay treatment and then, all being well, will be rehomed.

    Morning all

Blog dead?!?! Naaaaaaaaaah! Just peeps with busy lives to lead: kids fleeing the nest to go to Uni. little ones going back to school, others making the most of the last of the "decent" autumn weather before Winter kicks in .....

Weekend was nicely busy. I was a bit down in the dumps on Saturday so pretty much stayed away - spent the afternoon doing my tax return and watching football.

Sunday was fab. Didn't really do much per se, but just quality time with my fella - lots of laughing, some good food, some vin rouge and tellybox. Perfick.

Back in the jungle today and I have decided I really, truly hate it here. Don't want to be here. Have no passion for this job. Want out. ASAP.

Boss due from H/O today. Maybe I'll be home ironing by lunchtime ....

Good morning everyone from a showery/cloudy Ayrshire.

Liking the sound of a Scottish walking get together, right up my street!

Had a lovely day on Saturday, drove up to Ardrishaig then cycled along the Crinan Canal to Crinan (funnily enough), stopped on way back at Cairnbaan for drink and cake, then had dinner on way home in George Hotel, Inveraray - perfect!

Hope everyone else had a good weekend.
