Yes I do, I do I tell you.

Chris Evans | 15:33 UK time, Friday, 28 August 2009

"Do what son ?" I hear you reply.

I do read all the posts - well nearly all of them.

Let me tell you, last night the girls from the show came to our neck of the woods for dinner to celebrate the end of the book. Tash came out to join, Marky Mark/Mrs. Doubtfire kept one eye on the baby monitor and it was sirloin steaks and dover sole all round.

They all stayed over, Steph, Hells Bells from Hull, South African Suzie and Scouse Sarah - so it was the full English round our kitchen table this morning with my "as much butter as you dare" scrambled eggs.

Just had first big meeting about The Abba concert two weeks on Sunday - sounds fabba. Two and a half hours of top talent belting out the Super Swedes' back catalogue plus special guests and the man himself, the ice cool Benny A. Can't wait to see The Feeling and of course The Minogue girl. Tickets are still available but I think we're up to twenty thousand already !

Now do I wear the blonde wig and false beard - I am thinking yes.

Have a dudey weekend you crazy cats - back on the blog Tuesday. X.

Noah says - "It's good to bounce."

Also bought tickets for Proms in the Park for the day before.

    Hi Chris,

What a fabulous photograph of Noah - he is a wee sweetheart! Have a great weekend. Sorry I will miss the show tonight (going a friend's for dinner and lots of wine!) but I know it will be fantastic.

Just want to say to MC: thanks - I am really looking forward to meeting you and all everyone else in Liverpool! Very exciting!

Hellen: regarding "I Will". I always took it to be a song about someone you can't have, who you have seen, but can't get together with for some reason. I could, of course, be completely wrong! No matter, it is a wonderful song!

As for the R2 Beatles weekend - I'll be listening to as much as possible. Johnnie Walker played "All my Lovin'" this morning and it made me think of my lovely brother who died three years ago. He and his then fiancee were in London when this record was in the charts. They found a wee shop that could record you singing, and they provided you with a 45 single! They sang this song - their singing was atrocious, but they were young, madly in love, and they giggled all the way through it. Then, in 1967 they emigrated to Canda, and my brother gave my mum the record. She would listen to it all the time, weeping her eyes out, because her son had gone away and she missed him so much!

So,thanks to Sally Traffic, have turned around and come home.

Isn't it wonderful how we all interpret it differently.
I was told by someone that knew Paul that he would want it to mean whatever you wanted it to mean. But I still want to know what was in his head when he wrote it.

I am not sure it can be for Linda because of the line "and If I ever saw you, I didn't catch your name" I take that to mean he had not met her.

    Interesting though eh?

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!@~!@!@!!@!!@!@!@@!!

In fact Saturdee morning a don't now, sorry know what waz wrong with me.... ave been feeling an IMENSE kind of ENERGY!!!!!
Yes ENERGY all... noot an angry kind of ENERGY butta kind of crayzee.... sort of adrenaline!!!!!!
Like ave drunk a dozeeeen cans of Red Bull followed by ten bananas and 7 bottles of Lucozade Sport!!!!!
A thought man do a wish a waz racing terdee... if a waz in something like the BTCC championship.... terdee a would take no prisoners!!!!!!!
Then suddenly 'it 'it me..... if it's all terdee with the lining of the planets...... could Fisi be feeling EXACTLY the same way?????????????
That's when a decided ter wreet out me blog prediction that a getta feeling this could be THEE weekend for Fisi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    And looook what 'appened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any way a getta strong feeling this is the race where Fisi gets atop 8 and the first ever points for ForceIndia!!!!
Just of late ave been abit concerned that Adrian Sutil, Fisi's team mate waz gonna be the first one ter get the all important maiden points for the team.
A measure of 'ow good a racing driver iz iz if 'e beats 'is team mate all the time that Fisi always does. (Except for Alonso)
And a must admit Adrian Sutil 'as been giving Fisi a good run for 'is money!!!!!
But ter pull this pole out iz awesome!!!!!
Spa iz my second favourate race after Monaco and WHATTA COINCIDENCE... it's in Fisi's top 3!!!!
Monaco 'is fav followed by 'is 'ome GP of Monza... Belguim 3rd.... ave 'eard!!!!
    Knew 'e'd do well ere!!!!!!

Az for the race... a think 'e will struggle ter win it... az 'e 'as a light fuel load compared ter Trulli and the Red Bulls!!!!
But a think a top 8 should be attainable and maybe a podiumn if 'e really pushes!!!!
All a can say.... PLLLEEEAAASSSEEEE let it rain.... and then Fisi 'as a VERY good chance of winning with Lewis 'amilton on the podium too!!!!
The best drivers shine more in the rain!!!!!

Ave been worried that Fisi might retire from F1 this year az 'e might be so dissolusioned with always coming near the back of the grid!!!!
But 'e 'as the same thoughts as me.... keep pushing and NEVER give up!!!!
And sure enough last week 'e said 'e 'as no intention of retireing yet... EXCELLENT NEWS!!!!!!
In fact if 'e iz anything like me... I at 36 az 'e iz... i'm the fittest i've ever been in my life and never felt stronger!!!!!
If I waz in 'is shoes i'd wanter keep going inter me forties az the oldest F1 driver.... why copy others just 'cos they retire in their late thirties!!!!!!!
Could even keep mega fit and carry on until 45!!!!! Set a new record az the driver done the most races ever!!!!
Any way even though Fisi 'as publicly said 'e doesn't 'ave any plans ter retire yet... this performance iz just the medicine ter give 'im a BIG lift and ter wake up the F1 paddock to 'is wasted talent!!!!!

Such a shame 'e neve rfulfille d'is drema ter driver for Ferrari - a closed door in the Schumacher years!!!!
And then 'is BIG chance at Renault ruined by the bully aka Alonso who ruined Fisi's confidence!!!!
Ave written on the blog about this before... and for anyone who thinks am talkin' rubbish... remember the way Alonso behaved at McLaren with Lewis????????
A always could tell 'e dominated the Renault team and wrecked Fisi's chances ter be on top!!!!!
Sad too 'ow Fisi waz used az a scapegoat for the Renault teams bad performance after Alonso left!!!
A notice since Alonso came back the Renault car is still suffering with poor performance - so much for blaming Fisi - nice thing karma!!!!!!!!!!!

The owner of the ForceIndia team, Vijay Mallya, reminds me abit of Eddie Jordan when it comes ter Fisi. Always the underdog team run by a wealthy man, who recognises Fisi's talent, takes 'imm under their wing... and eventually the team comes good!!!!
Just such a shame Ferrari and McLaren never recognised Fisi's talent!!! A remember a few years ago saying Fisi would ave been the perfect temamate ter Lewis 'amilton at McLaren instean of 'eiki Kovalavein and loook ;ow bad Kovalavein 'as performed compared ter Lewis!!!!!!
If Fisi with 'is experience 'ad ave been there then it would ave been far better for the team... the youth of Lewsi and experience of Fisi!!!!!
Definitely Fisi would ave 'elped them te rwin the constuctors championship!!!!!!!

All a can say know, sorry now, iz a really, really, really 'ope the ForceIndia car suddenly comes good and turns inter a world beater!!!!!

Maybe at last 2010 will ber Fisi BIG, BIG year!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    WROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mind you Fisi could crash out at the first corner and then Sutil go on from 11th ter get the DAMN IT first points fir the Force dudes... that's motor racing..... let's see!!!!!!!
'opefully if Fisi can come outta the tight first corner...... errr first.... come outta Eau Rouge & go up the BIG 'ill ahead without someone tucked too closely behind 'im trying ter getta slip stream ter overtake at the toppa the BIG 'ill.... then the race could be 'is!!!!!!!
Only prob 'e's gotta stop early for a pit stop.... i'd say lap 12!!!!!!
E's on a 2 stopper terdee!!!!!!!!!!!! So from the start 'e's gotta pull a gap out ter ave any chance of wining... mind you if it rains...

    Chow!

    Chow!

    Wowzer.

There's a word I don't use very often - if, indeed, it is a word - but it seems quite appropriate to describe the weekend we've been having.

This morning we woke up at Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons - a rather nifty B&B near Oxford that you may or may not have heard of.

If I said 'pushing the boat out', I think you would get the idea, but sometimes you have to take the opportunity to experience the finer things in life, and by 'eck they were mighty fine. It is a wonderful place, and we were blessed with some lovely late summer sun as we toured RB's beautiful gardens. After champagne on our terrace, we donned our glad rags and took our seats for the main event. I won't bore with all the details, but suffice to say it was heavenly.

It is expensive, but if you ever get the chance, take it.

Meanwhile, back at Le Manoir Rudgwick, it is like World War III has erupted. Just up the road, at Top Gearland, they are having the annual Wings & Wheels thingy, which means every few minutes we are shaken to pieces as a jet fighter screams past the house. Add to that the steam fair in the village, and we are pretty much surrounded by every mode of transport thinkable.

    Lastly, Road Trip update.

Two weeks to go, we have booked two campsites to park the rig in, at Zion National Park and the north rim of the Grand Canyon. After that, we are leaving everything to lady luck. We've dropped Mesa Verde from the route, but it gives us more time to explore the other places, so I think it is the right thing to do.

Keep up the good work and hope you are all well.

    Big peace + love

    MfR

PS Should have put in an ARF request. Friday was our anniversary and Mrs MfR came in to 'Here Comes The Sun'. Remember us telling you that Chris?

I've just remembered a few years ago me and mr deev went camping** over the august bank holiday weekend to a lovely family run site in norfolk. on the saturday we wandered into the village to seek out the local pub, and when we walked in, it was fully decked out as if it were Christmas.

    Yes, in August!!!

Upon seeing our confusion, and realising that we were "weekenders" the landlord explained that they do it every year - august bank holiday equates to chrimbo weekend! They had a series of things on at the pub (including full christmas lunch on the sunday, which we declined as it was too bloomin' hot!) but we did sign up for the Christmas Pub Trivia Quiz that night.

As dusk descended, we traipsed back to the pub for the quiz night, and joined forces with another couple from the camp site (easy to spot as they looked lost and bewildered at the sight of tinsel in august too!). And guess what .... we only went and won the bloomin' pub quiz!!! much to the local's utmost disgruntledness!!!

Needless to say we never returned to that pub (or camp site) but it was one I shall never forget in a hurry!

Well that turned out ok in the end - the day, I mean!

Went for a long walk, forraging for blackberries on the way (the fruit, not the electronic mobile phone gizmo!), and when we got to the pub (approx and hour and a half away) it was SHUT!! Yes, closed. Not open. Locked up. Empty. On a Bank Holiday Monday ...!!?? So, bottom lip came out as I as a reet starvin' marvin by then and I said to Mr Deev let's go see if the golf cub in the village we'd walked to does food. He was very doubtful, expecting a vending machine and a chocolate bar for lunch but the closer we got to the club house, the more we could both smell food.

Bravely entered the club house door and lo and behold there was a bar serving food! After ascertaining you didn't have to be a member to use the bar etc we had a lovely lunch, in the blazing hot (too hot!) sun shine and a couple of pints of liquid amber refreshment, then jollied off home - downhill all the way.

Then I had a siesta! 2 hours worth of siesta! Ooops!

Just taken courgette cake out of oven. Lime curd filling made. Next up - the cream cheese topping.

Then Corrie, Uni Challenge, Levi in the Caribbean and bed. Then it'll be Chewsday!

Baggy - lovely to see you back and glad that you're not yet divorced! By the time you've caught up on the washing etc you'll need another holiday to recover! And you looked absolutely beautiful on your special day, as did you lovely chap.

Ah, the late summer sunshine. Don't you love it?

My 'Southwest USA' book, a glass of a particularly zingy SB and Mrs MfR. All in the grounds of Le Manoir Rudgwick on a bank holiday. It really doesn't get much better than this.

However, I like a list. You know that, I've stuck enough of them on here over the years.

Today is all about live music. You may have picked up on the fact - those who have stuck with me long enough - that I like the buzz of a Strat being plugged in, with the obligatory warm beer in a plastic cup while you need a wee really badly but you can't leave the spot that you have spent all evening shoe-horning yourself into so that you stand a chance of seeing the band and not the back of someone's greasy ponytail. Yep, we're talking rock 'n' roll.

So, the list. Or, lists, actually.

    Best Live Album In The World Ever. Now, I don't normally go for live recordings. Either be there, or don't bother is my rule. Usually they are badly produced and basically full of screaming and shouting with a subtle hint of band laced in the background. But here are three exceptions, in my humble opinion;

    1. Live After Death - Iron Maiden. Even if they are a bit on the heavy side for you, you can't deny this is magnificent. 'Scream for me Long Beach!'

    2. Bullet In A Bible - Green Day. My favourite new band - yes, I know they've been around for 20 years, it has just taken me a little while to cotton on. Such energy, and a rather good album to perform too.

    3. I must admit, I struggled to think of a third. There were lots of 'OKs' and a heck of a lot of 'nopes', but then I remembered this little chestnut. Rank, by The Smiths. Not a classic, but it is the only official live document of 'the greatest British band since The Beatles'. And, the best bit of all is that it catches them touring their finest work, The Queen Is Dead. Whether you already love them to bits - in which case you will know this off by heart - or if you have never plucked up the courage to give them a whirl - I urge you to give this a spin. You won't regret it.

    And now, the best gigs I have ever been fortunate enough to attend. OK, I know I've done this one before, but I think it deserves a second (or third) airing. Here goes;

Guns N' Roses, Marquee Club, 1987. Crumbs. It still gives me shivers when I think that I was even there. Aged 16, sporting a rather dodgy highlighted 'hairstyle', I queued along Wardour Street with 200 other similarly dodgy looking teenagers to see the 'brand new shock band from LA'. We weren't disappointed, they rocked that night and we witnessed the birth of a rock phenomenon. Shame that Axl disappeared up his own backside a few years later.

Chickenfoot, Shepherds Bush Empire, 2009. Stick with me here, I know you haven't heard of them. Unless you been keeping up with all my posts this year. Supergroup to end all supergroups. Chad Smith, Mike Anthony, Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani. All in a sweaty little venue in West London in the summer of 2009. If none of this means anything to you, don't worry, you had to be there. And I was.

U2, Twickenham, 2005. I was a bit unsure about this one. Don't get me wrong, I love them to bits, but I wondered if I had left it a little late to see them really rock. Nope. The sun was high in the sky and they were on top form. In fact, with hindsight, Vertigo was a pretty good time to see them. I wish I'd caught 'Zoo', but I wasn't disappointed with this show. Especially the 'Achtung Baby' stuff that was still a major part of the set.

Apologies for rambling on a bit today. Thank you for sticking with me if you did, up yours if you didn't.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

    Peace + Love

    MfR

    Hi Matt

I do love your posts, really - truly madly deeply love 'em!

Best Live Album for me has to be U2's Live At Red Rocks from the mid 1980s. Awesome!

"There's been a lot of talk about this next song, this song is not a rebel song, this song is Sunday Bloody Sunday"

    Class!!

Best gigs .... geeeez, that's a toughie, for many different reasons.

Stand out from this year, June 2009, Blur at Southend Cliffs Pavillion - you know the one - pre-Hyde Park warm up in a small town venue in Essex by the seaside, full of Blur fan club members. I've never been "that" close to the front of a proper gig before and the night was jumpin'! I was on bottled water all night on account of being the driver (my old stomping ground from my Essex yoof!) but left the venue exhausted, soaking wet - a combo of sweaty jumping aroundness and the water Damon threw over us lot dahn the front, and very very happy!

Im not a fan of huge stadium gigs but The Rolling Stones at Wembley Stadium in 1990 (Steel Wheels tour, and my first encounter of Mr Jagger) is reet up there. I burst into tears on entering the Stadium, and again when Mick, Keef, Charlie, Bill and Ronnie took to the stage. I've mentioned it on here before, but I was so taken aback on the Wednesday that on the Saturday I went back and got a ticket from a tout (the only time I've ever done that in my life) and took it all in all over again.

And seeing U2 a couple of weeks ago (again at Wembley) us right up there, having been a fan for some 26 years and never having seen them live before 14th August 2009.

    Happy dayz!!

    Love from

    Hiya
I own very few live albums so thats hard to answer - someone bought me the clash live album and thats pretty cool

Best live concert - maybe blur at wolverhampton this year (thanks a million Deev) or the first year I went to REading in '99 and experienced it all for the first time.

The most expensive band I have ever seen - by miles the one we had for our wedding (as I paid for that myself it worked out as an expensive ticket ;-) ) However for me live music is one of my joys and it made the night - so well done coolbeans (if I can give them a bit of free advertising)
