Last night we had our much postponed team din-dins to celebrate The Sony wins. Nigie sorted out a local tapas restaurant.
Cocktails first at the posh hotel opposite, where Hels Bells our boss immediately proceeded to spill her syrupy masterpiece all over the keyboard of this very strawberry I am composing on now. For a while my letter p was not playing ball but it has just recently come back on line - although it still refuses to click. Just let me try to persuade it into action...

Hi all
We've had a buffet day in our office, where everyone brings a little of something in, and then we put it all together, and share it - no reason, just decided there were no birthdays for a while, so it'd be nice.
So, I'm absolutely stuffed, and there's still strawberries, cherries, cream and ice-cream to go yet!
Have a great time at the golf Chris, I went to Royal Birkdale last year, and really enjoyed it, despite the weather! I wanted to go this year, but it's a little too far to go in a day.
Lovely pic too, nice to have that for the next 2 and a bit weeks :)

Darce, you'd prob end up with white bread cheese sandwiches and crisps! If you were lucky!! The whole thing is terrifiying me if I'm honest..........New city (not great at cities), new house (Yay, I'll have a proper kitchen at last) but a long way from my folks, and the scariest thing......... actually living with t'other!!!
Sounds daft, we've been together 6 years, and I've been down here for 4, but the longest time we've spent in the same house was just after the boy was born - and that's all a blur now!!!!

parts of plymouth are frankly not somewhere i'd like to be for long, but other bits are lovely! the shopping is good, and the venues aren't bad for bands/shows etc. and lots of lovely places to visit round and about - you can always venture into deepest cornwall for a mini blog meet with me?!
being away from family is difficult but hopefully you will get to know lots of lovely peeps down here!
and looks like your work won't restrict you too much in terms of what you can apply for - good luck with the search!

Think you might be right there Fissyn - thats what they seem to have most days.
Don't think we'd get any strawberries thats for sure. They do make the coffee though so I can't complain. You could still make Brum if you wanted!
Ebs - lots of adjustments to make then. I know what you mean about the living together thing, biggest adjustment of all! I've just suggested to him indoors that we should live in separate houses, I still find it difficult after 5 years. I'm sure you will love your new life though.

Scantilylace - lets hope the weather is nice - its so much easier then. I've got my two as well ,3 and nearly 2.
My 2 love bottles of bubbles and the're cheap! Hide and seek is another favourite and lots of stories.I've also chalked a hopscotch in the garden and they love that. If it rains let them jump in the puddles. I'm lucky as I've still got 2 boys at home and they play cricket and games with them.
I'm sure you will love it whatever you do with them.

you have given me some ideas of my own, I am sure that whatever the weather holds we will enjoy it, what's the point of being a grand parent if you can't make the parents eyes roll as you spoil their children, I have fond memories of the kids staying at my mum's for the weekend, it used to take us a week to get them to behave again without a treat at every turn.

I have very fond memories of staying at my grandparents - mainly coz they had a big house and a huge garden (with flower faries at the end) and a room just for the grandchildren with our toys in it!
Now my grandad is no longer with us and my nanna is slowly losing her mind and lives in a supported flat we all rally round to do what we can her - inc visiting whenever we are in brum - so if someone wouldn't mind popping in tomorrow on my behalf - that would be grand!

Oh help!! What a start to the weekend!
Have just heard my son (28) has lost his home and job in one fail swoop! He's been working/living in at a pub and it's been sold and taken over by a management co who are renovating and then bringing in their own team. Looks like he may be coming back home for a while!
Forgot to say earlier how lovely the pic is of CLP and Noah, being new to all this I get diverted by everyone elses news and forget what I'd come on-line for! Altho' that's probably been my problem all my life - being "scatty" I mean!! Fraid can't help with the grandchildren thing as not blessed with any yet. Still got enough trouble with the kids and they're 28 and 31!!

Thanks darce! He sort of knew something was up but hoped he'd be re-employed but as he's only on a temp contract and they've already got a team he's out I'm afraid. It's a double blow as the band he's in is just starting to get some recognition and if he has to come back home it'll be too far for him to travel/costly for rehearsals etc, especially without a job!

Sorry to about your son fissyn, it will knock him for six for a while,but as the saying goes one door closes and another one opens. You will have some adjustment to do as well, he has had a bit of independance and won't like having to come back home, my son lost his house a few years ago, he came home as there was nowhere else for him and his wife to go, it took some adjusting on both sides but we got through it and he's now got another home of his own............

Can't remember if I mentioned that one of our foals this year was born with Wry Nose - a condition where the upper nose is bent due to the way she was lying in the womb. She has been to the Dick Vets (Edinburgh Uni Vet school for large animals) and following digital x rays being beamed around the world - the result is that when she is 6 months old she will have the operation to try and straighten it out - affectionately named Squinty nose her official name is Ooni.

Fissy: I had the same situation with my oldest boy - he kept coming home!!!! But all is well now - settled down with wife and baby girl due in September. It will get better, promise. He has been made redundant twice - horrible - but he's got over it and now has a lovely life.

It seems to be a bit of a hybrid - bit of XF - naturally - bit of old Audi A6, but the interior looks stunning.
My new twin turbo hits the road on Monday, and this time I have the 'S' version - even more opportunity to lose my licence, but the car that has impressed me most lately is the one that May drove on last weeks TG - that Toyota 'IQ'-thingy.
Now that looks like the future of motoring in this country, to me. Assuming that you don't own a large dog, have any children, or your weekly shopping bill exceeds £27.94.
Put me down for one.

Funnily enough, I was once handed one of those and my first thought was - 'have it back'.
I drove it for a few weeks - it was the TDI - and I was hooked. Not the best looking thing, the rear is a little 'hefty', but the performance is superb - a VW, so you'd expect so. Great fun, and pretty practical too.

OK. I paid good money to see him a few years back - shame he couldn't be arsed to turn up first time around - and it was pretty good.
There. I said it. The boy done pretty well.
No really, I thought Bad was a good record, and Thriller, albeit slightly overrated, a defining moment in music history.
But. Where does it all stand when everything shakes up?
In real terms, Prince has more talent in his little finger than Jackson ever had, and Elvis made a bigger mark in the sand than anyone will ever do. Dylan wrote a thousand better songs, and John, Paul, George and Ringo (in no particular order) hold the record for, well, everything.
To me, it is all wrong. He was a child/puppet, who almost broke free from the shackles that bound him, but made so much money, so quickly, and drowned in it.
But, sadly, for me anyway, his place in music history is a second grade one. He'll sit alongside the 'Whitney's', the 'Madonna's' and the other 'almost awesome's'.
But not quite in the big league.

FORD....can't stand them..never have.
I worked for Rover when they were building better cars but still about to go bust....yet, anyone who passed their driving test, got out of the examiners car and said..."right - Escort or Fiesta?"
My Father in Law and I have a lot in common, but go either way on cars.
I buy German...Car = Audi....Van/Beast = VW...
He persists with Jaguars, which he pays a massive premium for, drives round (when they allow him) wondering why they seem so many years behind his partners cars for 3 years, then wondering why he can only offset the cost of his new Jag by 50p.
He now owns an XF which is an improvement, but is still so many years behind nearly any competition you care to mention, that even he has admitted that if our A4 was available with a "more beige, rather than black interior" he would go that way
Another mate of mine just bought the XJ R S or whichever one Jag do that looks like an Aston......Monsterously quick, but still backwards in terms of interior/handling and specification.....He really regrets it, but times dictate he is stuck with it.
This is Ford's legacy.....

Road Trippin' USA - A brief history & guide for those who wish to hit the road.
Rule#247 - All the best road trips end in Las Vegas.
So. The road trip. Across the States.
A bit of an art form, I believe.
Rule#42 - You have to read 'Zen & The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance' before you go.
Over the past 20 or so years - I am still a still only a boy at 38 - I have covered 19 US states, 6 Canadian provinces, and some 30000 miles, so I am a bit of an old hand at this lark.
Rule#341 - Two weeks in Orlando where you drive 385 yards each day from your resort to the gates of the park does not constitute a road trip. Neither does a weekend in New York with an open-top bus tour thrown in.
In short, the USA was designed for the road trip. If you don't believe me, jump in a car in San Francisco, point yourself south and drive for a week. When you get out at the other end, you'll know what I'm talking about.
That said, there are pitfalls. Don't ever stop in downtown New Orleans at night to ask for directions. Don't hop into a convertible on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Miami and drive to Key West without a hat on. Don't drive towards the Mexican border and ignore the sign saying 'Last Stopping Point In The US'. Trust me, I have done all of these and paid the price.
By the way, if you do choose to drive to Key West in a convertible without a hat on you will end up looking like Richard Dreyfuss in Close Encounters after he had seen the UFOs. Sunburnt down one side. I did. It isn't a good look.
Rule #7 - Music is the key. Anything with Highway Star, More Than A Feeling and Born To Be Wild on it will do.
If you like shopping, you will like road trippin'. In the US, the best places to pick up bargains are not in the cities, they are in the middle of nowhere. You will drive for hours through the desert, seeing nothing but sand, cacti and rattlesnakes, and all of a sudden you will come across a mall jam packed full of Armani, Nike and Ralph Lauren being sold for tuppence ha'penny. A little tip - hire a big car. You'll need the boot space.
If I had to pick the best drives that I have done, this would be the definitive list;
1. Pacific Coast. No brainer. If you can, do the whole lot. If time doesn't allow, San Fran to LA is simply awesome. Look up Big Sur, pick your jaw up from the floor, and book a flight.
2. Florida Keys. With a hat, obviously. Start in uber-cool Miami and head due south to Key West. At first you may get frustrated by the 35mph speed limit, but once you check the views, you won't want to go any faster.
3. The Deserts. Not strictly a route in itself, but a trip across the Mojave, taking in the Joshua Tree National Monument, Death Valley and the Grand Canyon is the trip of a lifetime. Don't forget Vegas (see Rule#247).
So. This year.
In September, we are heading for - surprise, surprise, Las Vegas, where we will chill - if you can chill in the desert - for a couple of days before picking up the Rig. Now, all of the aforementioned drives have been done in cars, stopping at hotels along the way. This time around we are changing tack slightly and hiring an RV. Or a motorhome, if you like. We figured that the places that we heading for are places that you want to experience 24/7, and not from inside a sterile, uniform hotel room. Once in the rig, we are heading east to the canyon, onto Lake Powell and then to Monument Valley. I have to confess that Stephen Fry's programme that he did from there partially inspired this. From there, we continue east into Colorado, to Mesa Verde, before turing north up into Utah. There, we take in Moab, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. From here it is a fairly short jaunt back to Vegas, but I have a burning desire to take a small detour to a little town called Rachel - not only my sister's name, but a place on the doorstep of Area 51. Perhaps it is the old romantic in me, but this is the stuff of legends and say what you will, but I like to think it is all true.
Lastly, we drop back down into Sin City, drop the rig, and spend a couple of nights in the best resort in town. Nice.
One last thing. If you do decide to road trip, I have one piece of advice. Don't overplan. Two years ago we headed from Seattle down to San Francisco, across Yosemite and down to Vegas, and I plotted every inch of the way, booking hotels pretty much all the way, and it really did take the edge off things. The best bit of the trip was the two days that I didn't book, and we found the most amazing place by chance in a charming town called Mendocino. In short, take a risk. Sure, plan your route, but build in enough time to be able to alter things, because you never know what you are going to find, and that is the beauty of it.

So sorry I didn't go to Brum now, our day together consisted of me sleeping in, him watching TV and playing puter games, and to top it all, he watched me cut the lawn and get bitten by all sorts of critters! Then I went to ELH to get him some cider....
For all the time we spent together, I may as well have been in Brum!
Glad you had a good time MC, and glad you had company on the journey after all!
MTF, we have S*y broadband, and it's been fine, but we're quite urban..dunno about rural, although my sis has the Oran** one, with her phone contract, and that works OK I believe.

Got a nast shock on M6 , stone flew up and hit my windscreen,made a big bullet hole , Thankfully it didnt shatter as it has electric wires in it. Bit annoying but we we are all safe . Autoglass ringing me tomozz to book me in .......... thats life

You know when you are in the presence of greatness.
I mean truly stella greatness. The sort of greatness that only a select few beings are ever blessed with.
And once in a blue moon, if you are really, really lucky, your path crosses with one of these people, and for a fleeting moment, you are touched by the electricity they give off.
We were in the presence of greatness last night.
I'll be the first one to admit that I wasn't really looking forward to it - you may have guessed that from my post the other day - but it was always about my mum and her 40 year wait to see her hero.
We walked from her house, stopping, as you do, in the pub for a little light refreshment. And then the heavens opened. 'Fab', I thought, 'not only have we got an evening of Laughing Len Cohen to endure, it will be raining all night too'. Deep joy.
But mum was rapidly morphing into an excitable childlike state, regailing us with tales of when she saw The Beatles live, and how giving birth to me stopped her going to the Isle of Wight festival in 1970 and seeing Jimi Hendrix's last performance before he died a week or so later, and, crucially, Leonard Cohen. So, with the fact she never saw him actually being my fault, we donned our wet weather gear, and headed into the monsoon.
From the moment he walked on, everything suddenly became clear. The man has that something, the something that you can't put your finger on, but the something that very few artists have. Now, I've seen a band or two over the years, and I can think of only a handful that have truly set the place alight and held an audience captive for the duration of the performance, and beyond. I was completely absorbed by his words, and slightly surprised that I knew far more of his songs than I had realised.
But most importantly, the 40 year wait was over, and she wasn't disappointed. We all shed a collective tear when he strummed the opening chords of Suzanne, and So long, Marianne was stunning. He made us laugh, and he made us cry. The rain made us wet, but it didn't matter.
I am proud to declare that I stand converted.

What a lovely day I had - the people you meet from here are truly and genuinely fab - and I would recommend for everyone to attend a meet.
Oh what laughs we had again - and again the champagne bar ran out of pink fizz of choice!
Right to report:
First time I have met JTT - what a lovely lovely bloke - and brave to be the token man with 8 mad women!
Beez's hair do - lovely - good choice! Red killer heels - v good - oh yes and she kept taking her top off....
Lyndis bump is doing well and giving the excuse to talk all sorts of nonsense (her words not mine!) and she won the competition for the killer heels
Deevs pyjamas were pink in preparation for pyjama gate #2 and black killer heels with pink spots stood her proud (not sure if she kept them on for pyjama gate)
Crumpy - self confessed leeky spice and the kind bearer of gifts - generous spice I think! (or G&T spice)
Lisa and Lin - lovely ladies but no sense of direction :-) - both had to be 'talked in/search parties sent' but made it eventually and recovered with 'stiff drinks'
MC - also had journey trauma - greet big rock hit her car - but being a trooper she carried on and brightened our day with her beautiful smile! (also as the only non-drinker put up with our increasingly raucous behavior!)
Sorry its a long one but I wanted to share our day
HOWEVER - I left at 9 so I am sure there will be more to report......I wonder how their heads are right now.....

Have been a bit disrupted this morning by a power cut, which set all the house alarms off on the estate we live on, and then again, when the power came back on - not nice at 8am on a Sunday!! Plus Finlay started howling along as well - lovely!
Anyhow, I've two things to do today, a bit of ironing and watching the GP, so it's a tough life!

Gorgeous day here today! Been doing some weeding in the garden then came in for a shower before watching the start of the GP. Always get a bit bored/fall asleep if watch the whole lot but do love it! Got it on in the background now. Can't keep up with all the different contributions! Took me 20 mins to read from my last entry! Sounds like you all had a good time in Brum. I'm goin up there tomoz to stay with cuz and visit a medium!! Never have before so that's 2 new things I'm doing in the space of a few days, the other one being to join this lovely group of bloggers! Hiya MTF et al - Crumpy checking in, post Brum.
To pick up where Debs left off ....
she said her goodbyes in the restaurant, with tears in her eyes! Now she will tell you it's because she was sad to leave us .. I think it was coz she onlt had time for a starter!! Oops!
Mains and puds followed with JTT and Beez finishing Lyndy's chocolate torte!
It was absolutely persisting down by the time we came to leave and had to brave the weather for the 5 foot dash to the hotel, right next door!
Drink in the bar, then the lightweights, me and Lin went to bed leaving the others to have 'just another one'.
All made it down for brekkie, although Lisa went back up to her room for a bit more kip before chuckin out time.
We had a great time and those that couldn't make it were missed. Pip sent an 'enjoy yourselves' message.
As for the 'house rules' - we all put into a kitty - non-drinkers should contribute less and top it up as we go. At the restaurant, we just split the bill.
The main house rule is enjoy yourself!

Hiya everyone!
Brum was a fun meet again! Great to meet up with everyone. All on good form and much pink fizzy stuff consumed (I had one just to be polite you understand) by most. Between numerous visits to the little girls room (you know how it is) I got to spend time with some really lovely bloggers... some I've met before and some newbies to me. I can confirm again that the people of the blog are truly a wonderful bunch!!
After a long (usually just half an hour) drive home as the M6 was shut at my junction causing dreadful tailbacks I collapsed into bed and had a long lie in until 10 this morning... spared by Mum looking after Booboo overnight... ahhhh!

Excellent time in Brum the usual crew and MC and Girlracer too - twas brilliant. and Crumpy arrived bearing gifts - with one arm longer than t'other - Bless - thank you sweetie.
All will be pleased to know after trooping from the Mailbox to the pub, then pub to the Mailbox in heels (only one may I add - moi - all others - flatties - wimps!!! GR excused cos she's had op on tootsies) and wearing a different pair at night - I have been in flip flops all day with a smidge of relief but still walking! "come and see this" was not what I wanted to hear today when it involved walking - but hey ho off I went anyway!!!!
The last I saw of Flower was when she came up to the Beez mobile in car park - she couldn't find her car - then about 5 mins later - "found it - tee hee" !!!!!! Mere fact she left the hotel a good 20 mins before the rest of us!!!!!!

It's a lovely drive, til you get to Birmingham. 45 minutes to find the flippin' car park, even then with help from Beez!My first sentence to the ladies (and Jovial!) was along the lines of if I ever say I'm going to drive to Brum again, just tell me to get the f!&%"$g train!!
Started enjoying myself about halfway down the first drink though! Beez, Deev, MC, Jovial, Debs, Crumpy, girlracer and Lyndy are all FABULOUS people with whom I am chuffed to bits to have spent time, and I'll see you all in Brizzle :-)

Glad to see you all enjoyed the Brum meet - any salacious gossip going?
I have just returned from a tour of the medics with Teen2 - physiotherapist at 8.30am followed by meeting with the orthodontal surgeon at 9.35am. What fun. She is terrified about her operation - taking out 7 milky teeth and inserting brackets and a chain! Yikes. At least it won't be until after the Summer hols, so she'll get a week off school; still... mucho anxiety.
We did the Race for Life yesterday in Leicester yesterday; I hadn't given it much thought as I'd been hoodwinked into doing it, but it was an absolutely fabulous, quite emotional experience, especially reading all the dedications on people's backs. Was so proud to see my teens with their "For my Grandad, love you and miss you" signs.Will do it again next year, definitely. Teen1 and I walked it in 50 mins, Teen1 and her mate apparently ran it in 40, not sure how that works!
Wedding plans going apace - new development, dad-in-law has ruptured his achilles tendon so will be in plaster, on crutches! What with my Mam in a wheel chair it could begin to resemble an episode of Casualty. Anyhoo, 12 sleeps to go...

Well a fab weekend had by all it seems...and MTF, know what you mean about being excited just seeing photos! Glad you all had a blast!
Sad i missed it but had a lovely weekend too..
Ended up out with the GM mum and family on sat night followed by a day of pampering at CP yesterday...and the GP was on in the cafe bit too..bonus!

TG last night..i WAS on..if you knew where to look! hee hee... behind Richard when he was doing to the Renault times..you saw my ugly mug for a few seconds a couple of times.. the darkness was very flattering! Was great to watch tho..even if the GM insisted on rewinding everytime he thought he caught sight of us..took about 2 hours to watch!

Boleyn- I did the RFL in Leicester after losing my Dad... Mum pushed her wheelchair round the park (which had just been mowed) in the rain too. We were some of the last to finish but it was such an uplifting and inspirational afternoon. Sharing something so personal with so many others... -x-x-x-

I trust you are all well and those who ventured to Brum have mow fully recovered? Reading all of the posts you did seem to have had a great time! Be warned though I will appear at one of these bloggers meets one day! ;-)
I have had a very nice weekend playing golf so I am a little stiff (behave) today. If the rain stops long enough I may venture out on my bicycle for a few miles. I am playing golf on Wednesday in the reading area again so I am keeping my fingers crossed for fine weather.....not looking good though. Strong winds which for me are my worst nightmare on the course. Still it is better than working!

Where was he on Sunday tins?? I saw that he was performing at Mercedes Benz on Saturday but couldn't go as I was babysitting.
MfR - really enjoyed your blog about the road trips - did the San Francisco to Los Angeles last year and it was great. Only disappointing thing was that when we did the Big Sur drive it was really low cloud which spoilt some of the views a bit. Your trip this year sounds awesome.

I almost went to T in the Park over the weekend - picked up young friends on Saturday night (they were smashed), put them up overnight, provided shower and breakfast, then delivered them back on Sunday morning (to get smashed again). Oh, what it is to be young!

Hello all, not blogged in a few days and have just been catching up on all the posts. Hope everyone that went to the Brum meet had a fabby time and that any sore heads have cleared....
Re all the talk about Scotland over the weekend... it's a fabby place, I have lived here for almost 11 years now, in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, and can't imagine lving anywhere else. Highly recommend both cities for weekend breaks, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs for outdoorsy type stuff. Don't know the north as well, but am hopefully heading that way next week to catch up with some friends, going proper north bound, about 30 mins north of Inverness!
MfR, was reading your post about your toad trip plans while turning an ever deeper shade of green. It sounds awesome! Travel is one of my biggest passions, just love exploring new places. Have only been to the very north east tip of the US: NYC/Boston/Cape Cod regions and would love to see more of the country, if only I had the dosh. need to win the lottery or rob a bank first.
The sky is turning blacker and blacker as I type, think we are in for another monsoon like the one we had about 5pm this afternoon, just as well I am safely tucked up at home! Looking forward to a day off tomorrow too...
