London comes to Berkshire...
... We have a visitor. His name is London. He is a guinea pig. He has no one to love him anymore. Until now that is.
Tash has taken him in until a permanent home can be found though judging by the way she was stroking him on the sofa last night at half past eleven - it looks like he might already have found one. Even I will admit, for a guinea pig, he is pretty cute.
London:

The biggest guinea pig house in the world!

Spent the second half of yesterday at the publishers dealing with the legal read of the book. Interesting one this, although Natalie my editor said the notes back were extraordinarily few, nevertheless a few re-writes were forthcoming.
I am now on the third draft - how very very eh ? More huge swathes of text have been picked up and plonked elsewhere to make it "fly darling". Editors really can make such a difference - you have to trust your editor even when they cross out ten pages and write the word irrelevant next to it - even if that did take you the best part of three days on your holiday in Portugal - d'oh.
Currently writing this blog on my Blackberry in an MOT station getting the last of the cars road legal for The Drive Time Fabulous Ferrari Caper down to Chewton Glen on Friday.

I am becoming more nervous by the second.
Have a great one you peeps.
CLP 2009 X.

Afternoon peeps - quick lunchtime blogette.
Ex-hubby had loads of guinea pigs when we got married, our's weren't agrophobic coz they used to run around the lawn in a little fenced off bit. They are born with fur and their eyes open so they look like mini versions of their parents, or indeed hamsters - of which my son had 4.
First was Houdini - so named coz he escaped from the box the petshop put him in, in about 5 seconds!, then there were Phil & Lil, named after the twins on Rugrats and finally Squeak - coz that was the noise she made when Adam dropped her as soon as we got her home!!
Also had a rabbit called Mitten (one white paw) and cats called Jaffa (little ginger chap) and Jelly and Blancmange - no idea why, Adam's choice!
Just a doggy, now, Honey.
Luv to all and catch you at home tonight,

Aw what a lovely ickle rodent Christoff.
Trust me I'm an expert on rodents. In my time as a rubbish farmers' wife I've had many of the said creatures, in varying stages of life, dropped on me foot by an over-zealous Jack Russell; not to mention the happy hours I've spent chasin' a ratty interloper round me kitchen with the spatula and the lid of me best cheese plate in order to escort it back from whence it came, before the Father-Outlaw came in and dispatched it in a much less polite way with the fryin' pan.
And then there was Fanny the ferret. Testimony to the fact you should be careful what you wish for whilst drunk in the company of ferret-breeders who aren't.
Bless her, Fanny was very pretty but extremely smelly and reluctant to perform tricks other than squeezin' through very small holes in the skirtin' boards. Anyway I tried me best to re-habilitate her but I'm afraid she had to go after I caught her pole-dancin' up the budgie's cage and when remonstrated with (usin' a rolled-up Wigan Observer) she clamped on to me hand with the zesty enthusiasm of a Great White.
It wasn't her fault of course. She was just bein' a ferret and doin' what ferrets do. But a girl has to draw the line somewhere; and I'm not goin' out rattin' for ANYone.
Anyone want a budgie with Tourrette's by the way?

Imagine this missive with a big coloured in first letter...too hot to think what they're called, but the sort of first letter that they start 'Once upon a time in a land'...etc and the O would be a big O.
Anyhoo. This one would start with a big N.
Noah was the son of Christophe, who had named him Noah because he would bring rest from toil on the land which God had cursed (Channel 4 or similar). In his five hundredth year Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth (for whom Grampa Christophe and Granma Tash bought many lovely toys and sweeties). When Noah was six hundred years old, God, saddened at the wickedness of mankind, decided to send a great deluge to destroy all life. But he saw that Noah was a righteous man, and instructed him to build an ark and gather himself and his family with every type of animal, particularly starting with a Guinea Pig. And so the Flood came, and all life was extinguished, except for those who were with Noah, "and the waters prevailed upon the earth for one-hundred and fifty days" until the Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ferrari. There Noah built an altar to Dog (the first altar to Beth mentioned in the Bible) and made an offering. "And when the Lord smelled the pleasing odour of his nappy, the Lord said in his heart, 'I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the inclination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I ever again destroy every living creature as I have done. While the earth remains, seed-time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease', and Heston Blumenthal shall forever create new recipes with which to inspire and amaze.
Then God spoke to Noah, and his descendants would henceforth be free to eat meat (because, like his father, Christophe, Noah was a bit of a Foodie), and the animals would fear man; (except when Tash was giving them cuddles) and in return, man was forbidden to eat "flesh with its life, that is, its blood." And God forbade murder, and gave a commandment: "Be fruitful and multiply, bring forth abundantly on the earth and multiply in it." And as a sign of His covenant, He set the rainbow in the sky, "the sign of the covenant which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth." And the Rainbow did land mightily in Brighton and San Francisco.
After the Flood, "Noah was the first tiller of the soil. He planted a vineyard; and he drank of the wine. (again, taking after his father, Christophe)
Noah died 350 years after the Flood, at the age of 950,(so here's wishing you a good long life Christophe) the last of the immensely long-lived antediluvian Patriarchs. Antediluvian well, well, well...

Hey Bondy,

Excuse my ignorance and also if you've already covered it - but what is an 'infornational' meeting?
I work in a completely different industry where words like 'it' and 'if' are deemed difficult!

Rips, an informational interview is when you meet with a company representative in the hope that they may have a position in the future that may be a fit....... so you're not actually interviewing for a specific position... hope that makes sense....

Yo Clodagh,
I've just awoken from the lay down with a wet towel on me forehead that your earlier missive enforced.
I'm still a little wobbly.....
Cork is Grand as they say....probably the freindliest part of Ireland I've visited.
The guys working for us down here are from Margahfelt (or some such) near Belfast...and to be honest, that's proving to be more of an issue......
Today I've managed to work out that "Iadldee" actually means 'Aye that will do'...bonus!
No Finbarr's as of yet, and I've also got to find out where cousin Frank lives, like I promised me Mum.....but the draw of the hotel bar and nicely cooked slab of Beef
may mean that, that will have to wait until next week.
Did nip off early today though, and drove down to Kinslade and Sandy Cove....Oh for all town centres to be full of those sort of shops.....lovely!
Are still awake?

Ah Ripples my little drip.
Well never mind. In Cork, you're never more than 10 yards from the nearest Finbarr. Go on, go in any crowded bar and shout, "Howya Finbarr!" and count how many heads turn around.
As to the accent; Cork, or more phonetically, Cowntie Caarrk, is Ireland's broad Scouse. I swear. My spectacular friend Mad Maggie spent a whole week in Cork not understandin' a word anybody said to her. Luckily she's usually talkin' herself so it doesn't make a whole lot a difference. Talk underwater, that Maggie.
And the Belfast accent is as different again. You know, they all go Roynd the Hoyses. But what they do all have in common is a lovely poetic use of the language, and that's what I love.
Anyway. If you can fit it in, rather than lurkin' around the airport all day, what you must do is get yourself over to Killarney, approx. 40 minutes or so.. well, maybe an hour.. from Cork. Or maybe take the missus there. You'll love it.
Meanwhile don't forget. If yous is kissin' the Bleearney Stoon, don't go commando.

Howya Rips! Sorry, missed your last missive just then.
You could try Kelly's hotel in Rosslaire, v. nice; or maybe the Ferrycarrig in Wexford? That's about half an hour or so away and lovely views over the lake. And there's a great little b&b in Wexford too, but I'm thinking you might want a little anonymity to just chill? I always find if you stay in a b&b you feel a bit duty-bound to have a Nice Chat with the landlady. Which is good but not necessarily what you want for just an overnight stay.
And am reminded of the b&b I stayed in in Bournemouth years back, on Baz's recommendation, (durrr) when the GBF Damian and I were considerably greener than we are now. Having driven down non-stop from Glasgow, we were sweaty, tired and scaldy, looked like a couple of vagrants. And I had me hair tied up in two pigtails, oh dear. Knocking on the door, I shoulda smelt a rat, really, when the 23-stone, vest-clad landlord answered the door and said, "Hello, Gorgeous."
Bates Motel doesn't even begin to cover it.
Any road up. If you did decide to stay in Waterford, try the Fitzwilton. Lovely contemporary rooms, great bathrooms. You know, nice mirrors, can't see your spots or if your roots need doin'. You'll get a deal if you call direct, I usually do that these days. Or try booking.com.
I'll have a quick look and make a couple phone calls.

Anyway have just bin' havin' a right laff with one of my co-conspirators in Dublin, over a b&b in Wexford where she stayed when we were doing our course.
Neither of us can remember the name of it, a) because we are a pair of hopeless and despairing Old Trouts, b) because we have desperately tried to erase the trauma from our minds and c) because we were all drunk as skunks.
Anyway the upshot is, stay away from b&bs with green doors embellished with claw-marks at the bottom and with a gibbet danglin' above; and if you do find yourself incarcerated therein, don't stay out later than 9.30pm and don't ask for poached eggs for breakfast.
And don't be turnin' round to see who's behind you when the landlady's interrogatin' you. She's cross-eyed and she won't take it kindly.

hazel - it is indeed lovely here at the moment - warm, sunny, occasional cloud, perfick beach weather!
enjoy your cream - goes on top of the jam, not underneath, remember - and certainly NO butter!! or equally nice with treacle/golden syrup on bread - yummy!!

CG, thank you for that, but I allus put the crame on last, that way you get much more...think may well try with treacle (which is indeed wot we (in my family) call golden syrup) as sounds extremely sickly and sticky. But that's probably not for here.
Or maybe even on a topic?
Akshully, clotted cream on pretty much anything improves it a great deal. Apart from prunes or squid which are foods of the De'il himself. See Genesis 4-5/ii.
And yay the Lord did denouce all dried plums and creatures of the sea who produce ink and yet don't use it for writing letters or similar.
Here endeth the lesson.

spoken like a true cornish person, hazel!!
clotted on ice cream is also truly gorge!!
am singing from your hymnsheet too re prunes!! (altho' squid deep fried in batter i do like - just not with cream!)
in our family any cream other than clotted is scornfully referred to as "milk" and is not for any purpose than cooking or putting in your coffee!!

Toffy, wrap some frozen ps in a tea towel and leave it on the seat that you are going to be driving from, carefully removing said item before sitting down.
Ps is cheap, this is why I recommend them, but any bag of frozen goods will probably do the trick.
although I'd draw the line at an arctic roll

MTF - if you can stop at chemist or supermarket on the way out, there is this stuff called Magicool (am sure other similar products are available!) which you can spray on you or just in the car to cool down a bit. not sure how it works but it is definitely cooling!! the kids at sports day loved it!!
