Hey hey it's...
... Ladies Day at ye olde royal race course round t' corner.
Took the Walkers for a beer last night, and the boys in the pub were already getting far too excited about the forthcoming outpouring of literally thousands of fillies from the trains, mid morning today.
Let me tell you Ascot is probably much smaller than you think. There is a garage, a Budgens, a few pubs and shops and that's about it apart from of course the honking great race course in the middle of it. To think there will be sixty thousand hats and frocks marching and no doubt later staggering around this small thoroughfare is mind boggling.
Tash and I are having to time our vehicular ins and outs with military precision this week to avoid getting stuck in five mile queues of pink limos and party coaches.
If somebody would have told me a few years ago that this would all be going on outside my door, and that I would be more bothered about a little man and his gorgeous mum instead I would have thunk them insane.

Gotta say Ascot has never appealed to me...60,000 staggerers being prententious, thinkin' they're something they are not...no fanks!
There is more than enough 'proper' sport goin' down this w/e to satisfy even the most die hard sport fans IMHO.

Morning all,
I write this sat on Clipstone street at the Cafe round the corner from R2....and I shall be here tomorrow If you want to meet for breakfast SuperBeep?!
The British Library is Fantastic, and one of the best bits is the latest addition....the roof made of 100's of thousands of differently sized triangular glass panels.
It is wave shaped and mind blowing.
It also sits on the main roof on wheels because as it gets hot in the sun it expands and has to move to avoid breaking the panels.
Perfect day in London for me:
Breakfast at Kiko's.....check
Park in SoHo and wander out past all of the interesting people towards Charing cross and out the back to the Hungerford bridges across the Thames.
Walk down the Southbank to Tower Bridge, then across to the tower before jumping on a boat back.
Finish the day walking round St James' Park and back up through Whitehall, Trafalger sq and SoHo
I'll probably think of a million other things now, but that will do for starters!

Morning 1 and All, I have my own little ascot to attend to!
In training for the local riding festivals, will be all titivated up on Sunday, ready to hang on for grim death (really enjoy it once I'm on the move) it's just getting organised that puts me in a tiz. Acutally I scrub up not too bad.
Chris as always, family comes first, second and everything else in between. I have one en vacance in France and I miss him dreadfully (so does his little brother, though he's not admitted it)
On a lighter note "anyone any good at cooking the books" got a year end to do and I CANNOT get my head into gear. Have put off for more than a week and I am seriously having to knuckle down today - oh that's AFTER I meet my good friend for coffee.

Ascot - would love to do an Eliza Doolittle and yell out "Caaaarm awn, move your A**E when everyone else was being posh. Probabaly wouldn't have the same effect these days though.
London - if I had no money I would do a Dickens Walk - we've got a book of them, they take you to places you would never know were there and it's fascinating. Then mooch around Hyde Park, go and make a speech at Speakers Corner, and try and make the guards laugh round Buckingham Palace. I'd also traipse around the National Portrait gallery, I think that's free, and go round the Tate Modern saying "But is it art?"

Right. My day in the capital, money no object .....
I'd wake up nice and early in a posh hotel somewhere in and around Docklands, then go for a leisurely continental breakfast at a pavement cafe, just watching all the worker-ants scurrying into Canary Wharf, all suited and booted.
I'd then get the DLR to Greenwich and take a Thames Cruiser down to Westminster Pier, about an hour's journey.
And as money is no object, I would have my very own pod on the London Eye. Just me, myself and my thoughts to take in the spectacular views of our capital city. Champagne too, naturally!
I would them meander along the South Bank, watching the street entertainers. A peek in at the Tate Modern (the Turbine Hall takes my breath away every time I visit - it is simply stunning).
I would have my lunch at Riveria, a lovely restaurant on the banks of the Thames at Gabriels Wharf - the best seafood linguine I have ever tasted in my life.
Lunch would be followed by a mooch round the little craft shops in Gabriels Wharf. And maybe a glass of something cold and refreshing at the pub nearby - The Grapevine, I think it's called.
Then I would continue to wander up the South Bank, via Borough Market of course, eventually arriving at Tower Bridge - one of the most spectacular sites in London.
I would enjoy a High Tea at The Dorchester or The Ritz, before the finale to my day .....
A visit to The Emirates Stadium. As money is no object, I would naturally be sitting in the Directors Box (after a pre-match light supper and some chilled champange), where my beloved Arsenal Football Club would beat arch rivals Manchester United 5-0 to win the Premiership title, on that very night.

Just to say that MsS has now left the building, and indeed is at Glasgow Airport at this very moment!
She has just called from Duty Free - two bottles of Malibu for 20 quid apparently - I didn't have the heart to say it would probably be cheaper in Spain - I am not interfering in this holiday in any way!
So, for the first time in 18 years, MrS and I are free: it's a really weird feeling, but a good one! I have a feeling we are really going to enjoy the next two weeks!

And yes, you are quite correct. As a mini-deev (child!) I wanted to be a tour guide in London. My dad was a coach driver and I would spend all the summer holidays on the coach with him, in awe of the Blue Badge guides - so glamourous - who would show the Americans / Japanese etc around London.
I used to know the entire script of a London tour .... for example, the Monument - did you know it has 311 steps to its viewing platform at the top, and if you were to lay it down it marks the spot in Pudding Lane where the Great Fire started (1666 I think), which helped to eradicate the Plague.
I did French and German to O Level too.
Then I decided I wanted to be a music journo, so here I am an Office Manager!

deev - we visit friends in london once or twice a year and she always has an "itinerary" of things for us to do! once we went up the Monument and to the top of St Pauls in the same day!!! (although can't blame that on our friend cos our small girl was doing the Fire of London at school hence Monument!).
have been introduced to some good places by her though - Greenwich market is still one of the best, as is the Transport museum (if you have a small boy with you!) and that Gourmet burger place in Covent garden!
I really miss being close enough to visit London for the day or to go to a show easily, but other than that - nah!!

Baz - I was so amazed at the likes of Julie Burchill, and Jane Goldman - what a woman! Sadly, my aspirations took a nose-dive when at 18 I met my first "proper" boyfriend, and the rest is history.
But in hindsight, I would have loved to have done the Tour Guide thing.

and i was a tour guide at Heligan gardens for a while, which was really enjoyable! the thing about those sort of tours is that usually people come on them cos they want to know more about the place/city/whatever so they are generally enthusiastic too. and you do learn more than just by walking around by yourself.

Dear all,
The weight thing - I forgot to update on Tuesday after the gym visit. this is probably because there was no gym visit. Howvever there was a gym sesh today and we are back to 13stone 3. Still feel lardy though especially around the neckline and need to get back to 12 10 before we set off for the big drive time run down to The New Forest for our overnight at Chewton Glen.
This would be a good way to get to see my cars, most of which will be out and about that day. haven't decided on the route yet but as soon as that's confirmed I will publish it so folks can wave and say hi.
No more best manning for me for the next few years at least. i honestly was so nervous i nearly fainted - I felt mighty strange most of the day and then once it was all ocer suddenly felt fine again.
As you have probably guessed I have been catching up with the posts whilst wifey buses me in cos I'm on a semi late one tonight, meeting a mate for a Monaco debrief and ealy planning for next year. Nige has also threatened to take us along to The Taste of London food fair which kicks off tonight over the road in Regence Park to enhance his public appearence. If he's willing to split the fee we will think about it.

ARF. Disco Tex and the Sex-O-Lets, Keep Dancing..?? Bit mad but hey, that's ARF n'est-ce pas?
Now then. Indeed I do know AscOt. Oh yes. Actually I won tickets for Ladies' Day a couple years back on Womans' Minute, yet again making a prize eejit of meself on air but we got hatted up to the max and a grand ole time was had by all, hurrah. So Cheers again, CLP. Well worth makin' a plank of meself over.
Anyway, am back, pummelled, buffed and polished to within an inch of me life, from our spa break in glorious Bath followed by a spin round the Cotswolds and concurrent survey for our forthcoming project, The Good Wee Guide: Places I Have Been For A Wee, by Clodagh Rubbish and Lucy Lastic. And boy let me tell you, if you're going to be caught short, do it in the Cotswolds rather than the market square in Wigan. You Visit the Cloakroom there, you don't Go for a Wee at all, oh no. And you get squirty soap and a proper towel, none a that cracked carbolic and one a them machines that blow your bouffant outa shape and give you whiplash from your dangly earrings. And. After your tea and cake at the Lygon Arms in the Vale of Evesham you can use the deluxe four-poster toilet. But mind when you flush that you're not callin' for the bell-boy by mistake, that can get tricky.
Am not telling Renee any of this, mind. It's taken her 2 full years as it is to get used to her downstairs electric toilet, affectionately known as Old Sparky, and I can't face yet more ablutive upheaval at the minute.
So mum's the word, chaps.
And don't be worryin' about the waistline, CLP. After all that tea and crumpets with me rosy cheeks after bein' buffed to the max, I look like a Lucie Atwell drawing meself. Ah sure, who cares.

This Sunday is the 45th staging of the oldest half marathon in the UK - The Freckleton Half Marathon, near Blackpool.
There are 700 runners, including myself (as well as organising the race) and a radio presenter called Chris Evans (but not Sir Christoph of Radio Two unfortunately - maybe next year?)

I'm feeling much happier now - just said my prayers, I do that at the start of everyday. Always pray for the ones I love. I'm a bit weird because I always pray for Bernie Taupin, have done so for three years almost to the day!! I have this picture of him from the CD Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy, I think it is him, it's just called "The Kid" I have another picture of him, again I only think it is him, it's second last page of a program from an Elton John's show, that I went to see in September, not last year but the year before. I also have a picture of him dresses as a clown, I'm sure this one is him. That's enough about my love for Bernie, unless you want to hear more!!!

I have three children aged 12, 4 & 2
My godchildren over the pond are 19 & 12, the 19 year old isn't coming over though (not cool apparently!) They also have a 15 yr old who is as good as a godson to me.
I also have a goddaughter who is 17 (my cousins daughter) and she lives close by.

I have 2 children. My daughter is 21 and just finished third year Medical engineering in London, and my son is 19 studying chemical engineering at Cambridge, just finished second year. Don't have their results yet, but I'm sure both will pass, they both normally do really well - both bright kids and I'm really proud of them.
I have a goddaughter who is 31, but I've lost touch with her - wrote to her mum for years and years, but haven't heard from her for a while. I last saw them about twelve years ago, just before we moved here. They were living in Zimbabwe, don't know if they are still there Very sad.
My sister's daughter who lives in Cape Town is also my goddaughter. She is born on the same day as me. That was my grandmother's birthday too! Her brother is as good as godson to me.

KW - I also have 2 nieces who live in London, who are like goddaughters. I stood in as proxy godmother for the eldest at her christening. My brother- in- law's sister is her real godmother, I thought you could have more than one godmother! At the time I was living with a guy and I think my brother- in- law thought I wasn't suitable to be god mother and I wasn't a catholic.

Morning,
I've been lurking the last couple of days as have been really busy and also got the post holiday blues. I don't know about the rest of you, but a week after a holiday I am always thinking about what I was doing this time last week!!
Now don't get me wrong I love my life, but having just spent a week with my friend, who doesn't work, has three lovely kids, a big house and a pool - I can't help but be a ltitle envious!
Anyway onwards and upwards. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and it's Friday...Hooray.

Know what you mean Alli, sometimes you just can't help but be envious of people, I used to be married and we had our own business, we weren't well off but did OK, however my ex husband's business has really taken off and his new wife drives a brand new range rover, he has 2 bentleys, they have put in a swimming pool in the house we used to live in, now don't get me wrong, I would not want to be back with him and am very happy with my lot now, but sometimes it is hard to look at all that and not be envious, especially when I didn't take the advice of my solicitor when sorting out my settlement, but that's another story and certainly not for here!!

My friend might think that my single lifestyle is enviable, when her kids are screaming and she has this big house to keep clean...haha - I hope so xx

Ah Ali and Dozy. I hear what you're saying but for my part, years down the line from the detritis of my failed marriage, I look at the ex-hubby's great and spectacular success with a good deal of pleasure and secret pride. Because he has been such a fantastic dad, and I think I've not been too awful as a mum, just highly embarrassing, who cares that we were c**p spouses. To this day, we LIKE each other and are on each other's lists of People We'd Take On The Life-Raft.
It's life's Value For Money, see. Some prices are worth paying; but it's all a matter of perspective. Cherish the good in life-and there's plenty to be found- and all will be well.

Good point, Ali. Of COURSE there will be people who envy us; all of us here lead privileged lives compared to some.
And it's always surprising how that envy surfaces. I've always held that if a woman is bitchy it's because she feels inferior and has to drag her target down in order to redress the balance. What a pity she can't up her own game instead.
But, as I say. That's life. You have to take the custard pies along with the diamonds.

Yes, I am very happy with Mr Dozy, and I did what I thought was right at the time, but hindsight is a great thing isn't it. Don't get me wrong, I am really proud of me ex, he has achieved a lot and it's all down to hard work and determination, he really does deserve all he has.

And a last word on the subject of envy.
At one time I'd have been extremely envious of CLP fallin' outa bed and straight into Ascot. Until I stayed over with my lovely friends nearby said racecourse and was practically barricaded in for 24 hours afterwards in the static traffic. See. Everything has a price.
Same as the day I spent shopping in Manchester with let's say somebody well known, whose lifestyle is the envy of millions. Mobbed, we were. Which was amusing at first but I have to say I'd end up a bloody hermit meself in their shoes.
Everything has its price. The knack is to pay it graciously. And as The Dear Departed Father used to say, "Be good to people you meet on your way up the ladder. Because you'll sure as hell meet 'em again on the way back down."

I used to work with the biggest green eyed monster you could ever clap your eyes on. Slagged off anyone who had even the slightest bit more than she did. She was one sad miserable person. I too have been lurking, I felt on top of the world on Wednesday and then it all came crashing down for no apparent reason yesterday.
