Oh What A Nightie Night.

Chris Evans | 11:30 UK time, Tuesday, 12 May 2009

Thank goodness I was...

... hosting the awards last night.

It's the perfect way to make sure you don't overdo it on the alcohol front. I had my first beer at 11.35 ! Now - as for the rest of the team... well let's just say I have had a very "interesting" chat with the producer. It seems the most creative thing that's happened in the office this morning is that Crackpot Craig has been sent out on a bacon sandwich run.

But what a team. The best, simply the best. As far is I am concerned they can have the day rest of the day off, they deserve it.

Two out of two for Drivetime and that of course includes - YOU.

I can't tell you how much your reaction is the wick that keeps our candle burning so brightly. We immediately know when something is flying or not from the tone, speed and energy of your feedback and as you pick up whatever it is we throw out there and take it forward - the next chapters often write themselves. There's no doubt we plant the seed but it is you who provide the sun and the rain.

I was in my dressing room just before the awards last night wondering if I would remember my opening few lines - when something inside told me take a time out to pause for a moment, realise how lucky I was and to say thank you.

"Four years ago I was going nowhere fast and now here I am with a beautiful wife an amazing son, I'm back in touch with my daughter, I have a job that I love - working with people whom I consider real friends, I'm about to host the industry's biggest night of the year and we are up for two awards into the bargain. It simply does not get any better. Thank you God."

And then we win !

So what next ?

Your guess is as good as mine - oh hang on I've just been told.

It's nappy time - mummy needs to go shopping and Noah has just presided over a minor explosion in the poop department.

Rock on you lovely listeners and on behalf of the team and the whole of Radio 2 - thanks again.

Lord Chrissington of Berkshire signing off.

I never used to listen to Radio 2 much until your show and now I listen every day on my way home and sometimes even when I get in. You have changed my ways from the other channel!! It is also lovely that you are a happy family man these days as my liitle man is 20 months old and it brings back all the lovely memories from last year when you talk about Noah. Maybe in another 20 years when I am an old fart you we can swicth over to radio 4 together ;-)

    Keep up the good work.

Also sad to hear about The Mulberry fire. We went there when little man was 2 weeks old for our first wedding anniversary lunch. Was lovely and we often stop by now with him to play in the garden whilst we have a beer. Nice part of the world - why did you leave??!!

    Great blog Mr Evans,

I have noticed how much happier you have got over the years. to be honest I remember thinking that I wouldnt enjoy listening to you when JW left but you turned me around and I wouldnt miss your show (albeit for 30 minutes on drive home) for the life of me.

Keep up the good work and look forward to listening tonight.

  • Comment number 46.

    Hey Chris,

So you and your Team can have a rest why not let the Bloggers come up with the play list for you.

    1> Don't stop me now - Queen
    2> Congratulations - Cliff Richard
3> We are the Champions - Queen
4> Simply the Best - Tina Turner
5> Dancing on the Cieling - Lionel Richie
    6> Rockarama - ELO

I think it's the least we could do

  • Comment number 47.

Congratulations to the whole team. Thoroughly deserved.
I agree with the bloggers go for Queen "Dont stop me now"!
For all those on a high - hold those happy moments, may they go on as long as possible. AF - virtual hugs coming your way.

  • Comment number 48.

Well done Chris - Congratulations, and here's to many more accolades in the future!

  • Comment number 49.

Don't Stop Me Now by Queen seems most appropriate but knowing what a team player Chris is I guess he'll go with We Are The Champions. One or the other would be great though wouldn't it?

And I agree, wasn't much fussed about Chris taking over from Jonny but he soon converted me.

  • Comment number 50.

    Congratulations to you all:-

  • Comment number 51.

have to agree with your choice of songs with the exception of tina turner, simply the best.
Dislike that song with a passion, so much that I banned it from my wedding reception along with cher.

  • Comment number 52.

I have a new found respect for you Big Nick.....any thoughts on 'my heart will go on'?

  • Comment number 53.

that song and angles - robbie williams is banned from my wedding recpetion

  • Comment number 54.

Congratulaions Chris and Teams. Well done!

Chris stay in this happy zone and keep us sane.

  • Comment number 55.

    Hi CLP & Team

Very well done on an excellent result!
Oh, and what a lovely blog too, was already weepy though.

Sorry, can't stop today, too many things happening, some good, some not so...catch you later

    AF - hugs to you

    JG x

  • Comment number 56.

my heart will go on, one of the most annoying songs I would say, but then again anything by Cher and Tina Turner are in that category.

It must be something about songs that are played in movies.

  • Comment number 57.

Congrats you lot, havent had a radio in my car for a couple of weeks and been away but have really missed listening to drive time, back stationed in tonight though.

Think you might be on a right old high tonight CLP, bet they havent been able to get you off the ceiling all day.

  • Comment number 58.

Not too hot on the song myself but the message is clear - They are simply the best

  • Comment number 59.

I dont mind Robbie Williams and angles, but only in small doses.

  • Comment number 60.

    I wasn't saying I liked it SuperBeep!

    Please don't mis-read that....

Haven't heard Angles - although I am told that it's a bit protracted and goes all over the place 90/45/180......sorry best I could do given the time.....

    Angels isn't so bad though.

  • Comment number 61.

At our wedding reception I had to nip home to get some rock and BritPop toons as the disco (booked by my lovely late dad, who thought he was doing us a fave) was absolutely pants with a capital P!

I can still see the neighbours faces. Me in full wedding dress regalia hopping out of sis-in-laws fiesta, running in the house and emerging minutes later with a bag full of CDs!

    Deevski x x x

  • Comment number 62.

Yeah, but what about triangles, squares and circles? ;-)

Angels, like the theme from Robin Hood, is a little overdone!

  • Comment number 63.

    ROFLMAO :-)

  • Comment number 64.

i have nickmaned that song angles as even to say the name brings me out in a cold sweat!

Deec - have booked a live cover band for the wedding - have heard them play and they rock - will be the most expensive band I have paid to see but well worth it!

  • Comment number 65.

I am with Nick on Tina T, just reminds me of that idiot Chris Eubanks!!! nightmare....wake me up please!!

  • Comment number 66.

    # 60 rips - I am so thick! I have had to stop work and re-read your comment about 20 times to get your joke - d'oh

    angle not angel!!!!!

    No-one would believe I am a qualified professional :-(

  • Comment number 67.

    Big Chief CLP,

Well done, congrats - fair play to you and Hells Bell's crew - very well deserved....

Its funny how things turn round . . . 12 months ago I was still in a 20-month mire - drinking too much, no relationship, full of self-pity, overweight, unattractive and miserable where I was living. . . I can now confirm that I am at the right complete opposite of the scale in every aspect

    - I now look up instead of looking down . . .

    Its a funny world . . .

Keep up the award-winning excellent work,

Lots of love to everyone . .

    Hi there one and all

Oh Christophe, what a loverly blogeroony. So happy for you and the team - you so deserve the recognition.

Both Queen tracks for ART later - A BIG MUST!!

I too now have my life on track after a good too many years and it's abfab to say the very least. It's so very important to take time out now and again from our very busy lives to reflect how lucky we are.

Anyhow, very windy outside here in sunny, hot Norfamps (the car rickter thingy says 18 degrees - what's that about?). Not a good day for having your hair done, but brill for the washing (which is still in machine btw GD!).

Back in a bit, just need to catch up on last night.
