The time passing or us passing through time debate but one on.

Chris Evans | 15:41 UK time, Friday, 24 April 2009

Hi, everyone, ...

... so how about this?

I'm on the cross trainer again and I'm in the middle of one of those ten minute hour moments. That is a ten minute programme that feels like an hour. Now previously I had been talking to a mate and fifteen minutes had passed by in a flash.

This simply can't be right I thought. It can't be that time now feels longer just because I am doing something I loathe as opposed to something I love and then I had a thunk and here's what I thunked.

Maybe the faster your heart beats, the slower time ticks by to compensate in some way and seeing as my heart is usually at an average bpm of around 160 at the mere sniff of physical exertion, time was practically trickling by.

The second I stopped the sweaty stuff, hey presto I was almost instantly running late again.

Anyway, life continues to be a complete mind trump don't it?

Have a nice weekend now dears and God willing we will blog together again come the morn' that is Monday.

clp.

2009.

x.

PS. After the news concerning Donnington, what about our Big Yellow Day Out? We may have to move it to India or Russia!

Shame about Donnington. My DS and his godmother are off to Silverstone for the F1 in a few months. She treated him to a weekend away for his Christmas present. How lucky is he?

All this talk of exercise is quite wearing me out. I shall have to head downstairs for another cup of tea to revive myself! lol

Chris, there is more about this train of thought in Lucy Eyre's fantastic book "If Minds Had Toes", an introduction to philosophy and "The World of Ideas" written for younger readers. A mouse might scurry around really quickly and not live very long, but he has a very fast heartbeat so it all seems pretty normal to him.

Likewise the elephant appears to us to move really slowly but he thinks he's going at a fair lick as his heartbeat is really slow.. This could be why elephants are supposed to be scared of mice, because they move more quickly than an elephant can compute, and maybe the mouse never even notices the elephant as it appears to be inanimate.

Nowt like a but of existentialism of a Friday. Not sure how it relates to the crosstraining, will have to think about it.

But, I've navigated it back to Rudgwick, touched down safely, cabin doors to manual, we'd like to wish you a pleasant onward journey and look forward to welcoming you aboard MfR Airlines again very soon.

The only thing I am certain of is that I am knackered.

Lately, I seem to have so much to do and so many places to go that I have completely lost sight of what it is I actually do for a living. Work is a constant blur of meetings, spreadsheets, meetings, motorways, meetings, spreadsheets and deadlines. Somehow or another I seem to get to where I need to be, meet the people I am supposed to meet, and hit the deadlines, but I'm not quite sure how.

Hey ho. I'm not really grumbling, in this day and age, in the industry I'm in, I am fortunate to have a job.

So. The weekend is upon us once again.

We're following a similar pattern to recent weeks and mostly chilling out. My favourite chef, Bill Granger, was in Guildford signing books yesterday, but because of the aforementioned flurry of fun, I wasn't able to get there, but the bookstore have reserved me a signed copy of his new book so I shall pop in and collect that tomorrow.

Suitably inspired by said book, we shall have an evening of cooking and catching up on 24, and Ashes to Ashes.

This evening shall be spent popping in and out of here, the fridge and assorted foody programmes. Strange though it may sound coming from a confirmed veggie (20 years, and counting), I find it curiously relaxing watching chefs pan-frying fish and chopping up bits of dead animal.

I guess it takes all sorts.

    Later my friends, later.

    Hello All

Re Mr CLP's blog - I have long had a theory that we all have a certain amount of heartbeats in our life and when they're gone, they're gone and off we shuffle.

So, small things with a very fast heart beat live shorter lives, big things with slower heart beats conversely live longer lives. Then in amongst one species, them what is anxious, excitable, whatever and have racing pulses sometimes use up their heart beats and live shorter lives, them what have the ability to chill the old heart rate, eg by mediatation, use up their alloted heart rate slower and therefore live longer... trust me, you know I'm right!

So - that out the way.... It's been such a long time since I could comment regularly on this blog and now that I poke my head back around the door, the room is full of folkies I don't know. I've not had the chance to read and catch up, so I don't know you guys, even worse, I've lost touch with them what I did know and I don't know what's going on....

However, I would tread very wary of anyone that claims to be no good for anyone, as usually this is a preamble to entice and hook. Us girls often think 'well, I'm different, you wouldn't hurt me', and then are amazed when it happens. The guy on the other hand can aways turn round and say we were warned. My ex actually boasted that he managed to stay faithful to me for 4 years - however we were together for 7.

Anyway, 18 months or so ago, we got back together (mutual decision) and set out ground rules for taking relationship forward (based on no more of 'bad' stuff and lots more 'good' stuff). Have to say best decision I've ever taken in terms of relationship. First adult relationship I've ever had - I'm sure many of you know what I mean by that!

Absolutely no regrets trying again, but we both went very carefully in the early days as neither of us wanted to get hurt. We've now got so many plans for the future and I know that he's the one I want to be with for the rest of my life.

Like Beez said, life is very short. Go with the flow. Be clear about what you need and if he can't/won't/isn't able to give you what you deserve and accept what you offer, then forget him. Move on. Remember, you can't change someone else's behaviour, you can only change the way you behave in reaction to others.

Tell them what you want, and what you need and, if necessary, spell out what you expect from any fella to meet your needs and wants. Then let it go. Leave it at that and give them time to think it over. If they care for you they will take on board what you've said, and adjust their behaviour accordingly. That way you both win - their male pride is intact and you have the relationship you deserve!

Thanks SBP. When my marriage was breaking up six years ago I lost 3 stone over a period of 8 months stickly mainly to the green/red way of thinking (I used to be a slimming consultant for them). Despite losing all that weight no-one at work noticed! I then had a breast reduction and they took off 3lbs taking me down to 10st 4lb - only then did anyone notice! lol (The pic of me on FB in jeans and bustier was post weight loss)

I managed to maintain my weight for about 18 months. Unfortunately the weight has slowly crept back on due to spending much of my time with my head in training manuals and case files and my backside firmly stuck to the seat.

I started coaching hockey goalkeeping last September, and attending pilates in January. Whilst I'm much more supple now, I'm still far too heavy for my liking. All the weight is around my middle and given how stressful my life can get, it's not healthy to be facing 40 in such poor physical condition. I've sorted my mental health out and now its turn to sort out my physical health.

Hockey training restarts late August and it would be great if I was fit enough to play in goal again as well as train the youngsters. Fingers crossed. If I can manage the first week I'll be well away.

Right, enough of my woes! lol

Catch up with you all later.

I really enjoy pilates, firstly for it's relaxation properties and secondly for how much more supple it makes you. Many years ago I slipped whilst playing indoor hockey and tore my thigh - I was slim and fit but it made no difference. In early March (after about 6 pilates sessions) I did accidentally the same fall in hockey training. I was laid on the floor thinking here we go again. Nothing, not a sausage. Three stone heavier, much less fit and didn't even strain a muscle. I put it down to pilates.

Whether it's for you will depend very much on which class you go to and the kind of teacher you get. If you want to a have a bit of a laugh, and get there gently, look for a local 'village hall' type class. On the other hand, if you want to take it 'very seriously' look for a swanky gym with mirrors. Personally, I've tried both and I much prefer the former.

Give it a try. It really does work.

BUT the well funny thing for me was a dear old lady was there and everytime we had to move about on the mat there was a rather large pharrrt! Toilet humour - so note to self - no beans for lunch next thursday!

well done on the diet - bad back - youch - but yes I think from my limited experience the stretching and 'core support' exercises would definitely help - I would suggest going for lessons at least to start because its all about getting in the right position and the teacher comes along and 'tweaks' you to the right place - you couldnt do that with a book or DVD - unless you could Mr bp to be teach!

Baggypuss - acupuncture linking to tats and piercings? That's a new one on me!

It was my old lady boss who talked me into it (she's 67 and to the best of my knowledge, doesn't have any tats or piercings!)

You don't feel the needles going in as they are so fine - almost like hair width. I had 4 sessions over 8 weeks and the pain was gone. And it hasn't come back since.

She put needles around the site of the pain (my backside!!) and then down the back of my leg, some in my feet, some in my shoulders, my hands and on the very top of my head. She also linked the ones near the pain site up to an electro machine gizo, which made the needles "tingle" a little bit - in a nice way, not in a torturous manner at all!!

I can honestly say I was very sceptical to being with but have never slept so well in my life, nor felt so serene and at peace.

After one session, I went straight for a hair cut and darling crimper asked me if I'd "taken something" as I was so spaced out.

It might help keep your stress levels down as the big day approaches too.

I'd definitely go back for more, should the need arise.

Firstly BIG CONGRATES ter Jenson for getting the 'atrick outta four!!!!!!!!!
A didn't think Button would be strong enough ('is car that 'is noot 'im.... a now, sorry know Button 'imself iz always strong enough ter get the win!!!) ter win, thought a top 4..... did getta top 4 though aka 1st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be great if Jenson can win this years Championship!!!!!
Remember watching 'im race and lead/ overtake strongly at Oulton Park in F3 and thought that dudes looks talented!!!!!!!!!

As for Vettel nearly me prediction of a win.... came 'ome a very close 2nd, although 'e wasn't anywhere near 'is 'ome being from Germany and being in Bahrain!!!! (7 seconds adfift 'e waz from Button - reminds me of a Nenah Cherry/ Yusif Noooodooor tune!!)

As for Lewis 'amilton.... WELL DONE getting 4th!!!!!! Me prediction of 'im getting stronger az the season goes on 'is coming true!!!!!!
Just a shame 'e wasn't stronger in the race - a thought a win could be on the cards!!!!!!!!
Still think Lewis iz by far the best driver out there!!!!!
A wreckon next year Lewis will be F1 champ..... this year a wreckon 3rd or 2nd in the Championship!!!!!!!!!!

As for the Ferrari prediction of their first points and 6th place - A woz spot on on.... except for a said Massa would come 6th.... ended up Kimi in 6th!!!!!!!

As for Fisi - me prediction of a top 12 - E came 'ome 15th after running 10th at one point (When a say one point - yer don't getta point for 10th.... yer ave ter be 8th for one point in F1) A mean one point in the race.... noot a prize point!!!!!!!
A just don't know wht goes wrong with Fisi's races..... the car is just too crap!!!!!!! Too slow!!!!!!
A remember Fisi before in slow cars would do aone stopper and get a 8th/ 10th ish place... doesn't seem ter work nowadees az it's all too competitive/ close F1!!!!!!!

As for Eddie Jordon and David coulthard - Glad ter see on their BBC comentary they didn't end up in a punch up!!!m!!!!
