Oh my goodness I fancy the barmaid.
I woke up this morning still...
... half dreaming.
I was dreaming that my wife was a dusky barmaid in a far away bar somewhere in a hot and dusty country. It was late afternoon and I had chanced upon the family establishment after a hard days driving researching my next novel.
She didn't appear to speak English but she gave me an unecessary smile, one that hadn't gone unnoticed. She wore a torquoise t shirt slightly dirty and loose and cut off jean shorts and sandals. Seconds before -
"Beer please," I had requested, in that sheepish fashion a man adopts when he wants a female to think he is nicer than he really is.
Confidently she had rattled an unlabelled brown bottle from a bucket of ice and water. She expertly flicked off the metal cap. I was transfixed.
"Limon ?" she enquired.
"Oh 'er yes please, " I had to remind myself to speak.
The order now complete she placed it in front of me. Again there was a smile and this time a beat. It was a moment, a real moment, the kind of moment that life is about, the kind of moment that you can wait a lifetime for - the whole world stopped - silence.
And then...
...crying.
Noah was demanding to be served next and he was in no mood to wait.

I hate those dreams. You never find the path to heaven.
They are great when they are in full swing, and the barmaid is there, all tantalizing, and smiling, and giving you the eye, and then leading to you to her boudoir, just about to reveal the contents of her fruit and veg stall, and then........
......"Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaad, she's picking on meeeeeeeeeeee".
I love kids. But I couldn't eat a whole one.

Mine was that I was at Ryan Giggs funeral - weird already - but all the congregation were in fancy dress????

Do you ever have those dreams that continue - so you're in the middle of one, you wake up, you go back to sleep and you're back in it again? Usually dreams that are boring. Why does it not happen with the gawjus ones that you dont want to end????

I needed petrol this morning too, but like you just hate stopping for it. It's the stopping, not the actually filling up I hate. Anyway, have tried to eek it out so I can stop on the way home....could be dangerous though, as I'm not sure of the accuracy of the gauge in this car yet...oops!

I too have those dreams, that you just go right back into, usually scary not nice ones, that you would really rather just left you alone, oh well makes you get up and have an extra early start on the day, so can't be all bad.

Coo, flip, Christophe, there was some woman on the telly t'other day talking about colours (I thought she was fairly rubbish m'self, and she seemed to be more of a failed fortune teller than an analyst, but maybe that was just me) ANYHOO, she spoke about wearing Turquoise and it being the colour which means you're ready to settle down.

Can I join the BTC, I broke one of me big'uns years ago whilst leaping up and down on trampoline, toe got stuck in the webby stuff that you bounce on and the rest of me diddn't - Iwent up, toe staid down and in an odd direction, I think this could be the reason I've never truly mastered high heels. (think Dick Emery, or if you're too young Mrs Overall - that's me)
Your earlier post, my new position is a Funeral Service Arranger, as this is a whole new thing to me, I don't know what the difference is, but I think a Funeral Director is a step up the ladder.

My pod has about 1800 tunes upon it. This morning I had my pod on for all of 45 minutes or so, whilst getting gawjussed. During that short soace of time it kicked out 5 (yes count 'em ... .1, 2, 3, 4, 5) tracks by Depeche Mode (total of 2 DM albums on pod). and then (and this is the weird bit) it threw me "Personal Jesus" by Marilyn Manson - a Mode cover version.
Now what's that all about??

Nicki, apart from the record shop (about 1,000,000 years ago) it was the best job I ever had. We only had a laptop, with no access to anything, but somehow I managed to cope! The best, baddest, maddest bunch of people work in the funeral business, so I guess you're joining that elite!

Due to a slight change of plannage this Bank Holiday weekend, I am going to have a mamouth trying on of summer clothes for holibobs session, see what needs binning and more importantly, see what I need to buy!!!!

Already chatted up three clients - obtained two mobile numbers and am about to put red shoes on and pay a visit to a purrrrrtickerly nice client - most boxes ticked - tall - rich - sort of single - younger - needs help with form filling ??? We will see - yabadabadoooo. (sometimes rides one of those darned two wheel things - got one or six apparently! Deev - will let you know if I am greeted in leathers !!!!)

Crumbs, CLP, you're up and on the go early! Ah, the joys of having a baby around! But, tell me honey, did you get up and make Tash a nice cuppa and toast, or did you do what my hubby does? Zzzzzzzzzz ... then at 8am, 'Oh, was she up through the night?' Wee petal has her sister's cold, so we saw 2, 4, 6am, before up for the day at 8am!
Now, I know it may be a myth, but I like to have some cheese before I go to bed, so I can have some entertainment while I sleep! Unfortunately I can never remember what I dream!!

Deev - it's a module towards my Chartered Financial Planner status, but it's on a subject I know very little about.
Fortunately it's a small module, with only a 2 hour exam, all multi-guess case study type questions.
Once I've passed this, there's only one to go, but that's a biggie...and for 2010.

My absence is usually because at work there are too many people around me to be able to lurk/post in peace, but the last three weeks have seen me off work with a slipped disc, coupled with sciatica - Cheryl, I can ouch with you on that! Looks like it's going to be another week yet before I can go back to work as I can't actually drive yet, the sciatica is so bad.
So, I've been feeling very sorry for meself and although I've been at home, I couldn't sit at the pooter for the first week or two, and then didn't want to infect the blog with my misery!
BUT - today' my birthday, the sun's shining and you've all been so nice that I've decided to dip into the blog to say hi to everyone. I miss you all, but I promise I do lurk and either laugh/commiserate/agree/rant (*delete as appropriate) with you all.
I've just had a slow shuffle along to the bakery, which is luckily - or unluckily - about eight doors from home, and I've bought meself a wee french fancy cake (oo-er) to celebrate. 'Im indoors is cooking tonight, so am a lucky, albeit creaky, girl !

Morning you wonderful bloggers and blogettes! How are we all this Happy Hippy Hump Day? I have a 4 year old and a 6 month old coughing and sneezing all over me, and my swine of a hubby in bed sniffling … quarantine measures are being set up as we speak, but the man in the white suit can’t get the laptop of me!
Nick - don’t know what made me cringe more, your toe story or the bit about Funeral Director being promotion! I’d be sticking as Arranger I think! I was once so desperate to leave a job I hated, I applied for a job in a funeral director’s as an assistant, but it was in handling the bodies. Fortunately I got the job in the alcohol rehab and was saved from that!!
CtD - I hate filling up with petrol too, but not quite to the degree I hate ironing. We may be skint, but I insist Highland hubby allows me an ironing lady, or no …..

I’m a petrol gauge eeker outer too, and have only been caught out once, in the middle of the city’s busy industrial estate! 2 very nice policemen took pity on me, pushed the car into a carpark, drove me to a petrol station, and drove me back again!! We are blessed with some very lovely policemen in Inverness … just as we are on the blog! ;)

Oh dear, I can hear cats fighting. I asked the lady downstairs why she hadn’t got her tom cat neutered, disgusted that he is spraying our washing line, the wee lass’s garden, our front door, etc. ‘Can’t afford it!’ was the answer - she’s on DLA, etc. Suggested PDSA, but she said they wouldn’t neuter til he’d had his jabs which she has to pay £49 for. Not only is he a disgusting, mangy, mean cat, he’s probably going to end up with swine flu!!! Grrrr!

Debs2 - when me and him were in Cuba we went to that bar in Havana where the mojito was allegedly invented. It was fantastic!! Really tiny, all cramped in, reading all the graffiti on the walls - I'd go back there tomorrow if I could (Cuba in general, not just La Bodega!!)

Have finally recovered from the coughing fit, to read Beez's comments.....
Have stopped panicking a bit now. Spoke to my boss who has agreed the Friday before exam as Study leave, so will have a bit more time to cram for it.
To be honest, I only need to remember it all until the end of the exam, as it's so far out of my usual field, I will never need to use the knowledge again....just need the module points (stupid system)!

My French fancy (for any latecomers, that's the cake that I'd treated myself to) was lovely but I didn't put a candle in it in the end 'cos that seemed just a bit too sad.
A delivery has just been made from a friend of mine - a huge 1500 piece jigsaw - that should keep me out of mischief for a while!! The cheeky moo had written on the box "Dear Postman - this is for an elderly person so please allow them time to answer the doorbell" - mind you, I'm feeling more like 88 than me actual 48 years but even so, I'll be having words with her!

On Faceache I have 163 friends. Why is it that when I think of someone lovely, their photo appears as one of the few depicted? He's been there all day!
It's quite distracting. But in a very nice way!

Madcatian - pure coincidence but I was changing out of my jeans into my old trackie bottoms (they're far more comfortable for me at the moment) just as the doorbell rang, so yes, I did keep the postie waiting for a while! Luckily we've got one of those door entry phone things so I was able to tell him that I was on my way and not to leave just yeet!
It's not easy hurrying yourself into trackie bottoms when you can't bend your left leg, and you're in a hurry ..... !

Going back to the garlic related hallucinations, my sister actually rang me in the middle of the night once, as she was absolutely convinced there was someone standing on the landing. She was hysterical because "they/it" was standing between her room and where her two girls were sleeping (she's on her own).
It took me ages to calm her, and frightened me too at first, until I remembered Mum had said earlier that they'd been out for a Thai meal...hence the garlic.
She's vowed never to eat it again, other than indirectly in ready made sauces etc. where it's much milder, and doesn't have the same effect.
Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this from food?

Really interesting re: hallucinations. Never had one brought on by food, but like Super bp, I did hallucinate while I had a fever ...... I was lying in bed watching all the furniture being taken out of the house - not by John Barrowman!
I could clearly see these guys lifting all our furniture down the hall and could do nothing about it. When my husband got home from work, I was in floods of tears, but of course our furniture was still in place and none of it had happened! Spooky!

Deev - we did the same, stayed in Varadero, visited Havana and swam with dolphins. Yes, such a poor country but lovely lovely people. It was just me and my son at the time and I'll never forget driving from the airport to the resort, it was like going back in time with the ramshackle buildings and wonderful old cars.

We did the dolphins too - was yours in that nature reserve bit? I almost bottled out - I was terrified!!! Sat on the edge of the jetty, with my lifejacket gizmo and was shaking!
I'm a really strong swimmer (can go for hours/miles in a pool) but because it was deep and "lakey" and I couldn't see the bottom or what else was lurking in there, I was just petrified. The other members of the group coaxed me in and I am so glad I did it - amazing experience!!
And that was the other thing I loved about Cuba - I'm a swimming pool person by nature, but the sea was gawj. I think I only went in the hotel pool once i nthe 2 weeks - rest of the time in the sea.

I have to say, I was "surprised" at Revolution Square. Not sure what I was expecting, but certainly not a giant car park!

We went to Cuba in April 06, but stayed in Guardalavaca in the South East. Have to agree about the people being lovely, happy and friendly.
We couldn't do the Havana trip as it was a 2 hour flight (in a rickety looking old plane - no way!) and it was just too expensive.
We swam with the dolphins as well, and must admit when they first come up to you, it's quite scary, as you don't really appreciate how big they are until they're in your face. Really wonderful experience though once you get used to them.
The sea was fantastic too.
We went to the Dom Rep in March 08, and much preferred Cuba.

me and GD did that when she was 8 in Mehico, there were about 8 of us the group and what fascinated me about them was how they were different with each person - my GD was a very confident swimmer and they got her right out of the water on their nose lift trick - but with the elderly lady who was nervous they were really slow when approaching her and seemed to wait until she said she was ready (her words - not by being instructed to do anything)

Unbeknownst to me at the time, I actually had an infection in my system when we swam with the dolphins, and other members of the group commented how they "took" to me over some of the others.
We've since learnt that they pick up on malardies in humans.
Weird eh!?

Was sitting here sending a text to my lovely man boss to confirm an airport transfer for later today.
Old lady boss gives me "the look", so I said I'm texting your son about his airport taxi for later.
I then joked it's quite sad having my boss's mobile number on my own phone, and assured her he's not part of my "man hareem" and not to worry.
She then goes "he'll be most disappointed to hear that" so I said (very flippantly!) he couldn't handle me and she goes "I'm sure it would do him the world of good"

Morning, Afternoon everyone from sunny upstate NY. Temps today cooler only in the 60s but at least its nice. The nice weather yesterday lasted until about 4PM, when the clouds gathered and the rain poured for most of the evening. The temp plummeted from the 70s to the 50s....... quite a shock to the system especially as it was 90 over the weekend and Monday. Oh well.

I've just had an OMG moment, well actually one was a moment followed by another that lasted more than an hour!
Why do I talk in riddles - probably summink to do with v.small size of brain.
Well, anyhoo, had a call from nice gil in agency, she told me about a job last week that sounded really good and right up my boulevard (sp, sorry) then, nothing, so thats one of the reasons why I went ahead with funeral jobby, to cut a long rambling story short, she said the guy was going to call for an initial telephone interview! He did, call lasted more than an hour, and interview in person tomoroz.
I feel awful, coz will have to start with funeral peeps then leave after a week, I guess I'll just have to say I wasn't suited to it. - Of course only if I get the job!
Oh I hate things like this, but, I've been thinking and thinking about the Funeral job, could I hack the quiet - they only have on av. 1 a week, an I'd be all on me tod all day, and the money's complete cr*p, I was earning more 20 years ago!
On the other hand, other job 'Office Manager' involved in absolutely everyfing, but mainly International Trade - much more my thing, will have to spend first few weeks in New York, money just over twice as much!!!!!
I gotta give it a go.
Sorry I know I already owe favours, but can I ask you guys to cross 'em again for me - just till 4pm Thurs..........Thanks

Deev - I was there in Aug 2003 and yes its sounds like the same place with the dophins. I don't like being out of my depth in the sea, so was really nervous but so worth it. My son and I were so engrossed watching the next set of people go in, that we didn't realise our party had left in the boat without us. Son's face was a picture when he saw the boat out at sea- luckily someone realised and came back for us! Did it again in Mexico ( probably the same place as you Debs ) so have been really, really lucky.

nicki, my opinion for what it's worth is do what's best for you..... the funeral home will get over it if you get something better and leave. Sticking it out because you feel bad leaving so quickly after starting won't help pay the rent, or put food on the table..... IMHO of course

Oh where did the day go?? Staff meeting this afternoon was as exciting as watching paint dry!! Yaaawwwnnn! Made it home and filled up eventually, I don't think I'll trust my luck again though. It was a bit worrying trying to calculate the miles to the petrol station against the really poor MPG reading on the dashboard...one major traffic jam and I'd have struggled!
I'm also glad I wasn't heading into Manchester for the match. If they delay kick-off, it wouldn't surprise me, although I don't think they are allowed to for these matches. Am I'm heading North, so I really have no idea how much worse it is coming in from the M6!

Thanks for all your notes/posts/whatever they are called and Bondy esp. I think you hit the nail right on the head. I know that job satisfaction will be mega with funeral job, but to be honest it would not have bought in enough dosh to pay the mortgage, and with Mr N about to be made redundant, I feel more than a tad selfish taking the funeral job.
Still I know that if it comes off tomorrow, financialy I will be OK, and if not I will have a job.

On the subject of dreams, when I first gave up smoking, I would sometimes dream I was having a fag. It was so real that it actually satisfied the cravings. Haven't had one for a while now(dream that is) but still get the odd craving even after 6 years.

I love dreams that 'could be' so good then aren't due to alarm clock/children/phone ringing etc
I've had a few dreams just like that one about MrsW, always in weird scenarios too!
In fact I love dreaming; might just have a lump of cheese before I go up the wooden hill.
Looks like L'arsenal were lucky only to concede one this evening, not over yet though Deev, still the 2nd leg to go.

For some unknown reason, I woke up at half five and cannot get back to sleep to proper greet the 6.30 alarm, so here I am!
Incidentally, I had a dream about ballet dancing last night. I had a beautiful tu-tu in pale pink, and some silk ballet shoes with laces that went up my ankle.

So it's Thirsty Thursday ..... 2 more sleeps til Bridget-dom descends.
Gotta go back to ELH this morning - I bought some rice salad from their chilled range to go with the rocket last night and Mr Deev discovered a lump of blue polythene in it. Nice! His first reaction was that it was one of those blue catering plasters, but thankfully its "only" polythene.
Brace yourselves, ELH. I'm up for this one!

Deev, I've been in work all week, although I probably shouldn't have been, and certainly need to be careful when driving as I'm going quite light-headed when I start coughing.
I'm not using M-ways or fast roads though, so can easily pull over if I need to.

I've always believed that's when your mind says it's time to sleep, but your body is still not quite ready to call it a night.
I used to go out with someone (many moons ago) who was really really sporty - football and cricket - and he used to crack me up when I stayed over at his place. If he'd had a match that day, the muscles in his legs would twitch and jolt for a good hour or so after lights out, even though he was seemingly tired and ready to sleep.
Also known as "falling off a cliff". Very weird!

I don't merember any dreams last night. I banged my foot BIG OUCH shortly before I left work yesterday, so dosed up on giant pills prior to Noddy Land, and woke up in the same position in which I'd dropped orf. Sep the cat had gone by then.
Anyhoo, is throbbing today, so I'm gonna try to find some music which is in time, so at least it feels as if it's supposed to be.

JG - do not take the original formula one at work. They advise you not to drive or operate machinery on the box. And I think you need to get it from a pharmacy ratherthan off the shelf.

Jakey, meant to say...had a whole conversation with my mother the other day as she is currently afflicted by a coff...hot drinks are better than cold. Even though the cold feels soothing, the temperature constricts your blood vessels, which causes the muscles in your neck to contract...which will make you coff more.
Anyhoo, I suggested tea, she suggested boiling up a litre of gin.
Your call!
(I wouldn't advocate boiling gin. Just a gentle heat to warm it through should be sufficient, else you lose all the alcohol, and end up with juniper cordial.)

Best thing for a cough is not any of those rubbish cough medicines. Best thing is neat Crusha syrup - preferably raspberry flavour.
Makes the room spin too when you gargle with it.
Spent a loverly evening with the chap last night. spag bol, crusty bread, rioja for him, stolen goods ribena for me, profiteroles, football and both of us just in our undercrackers having a snuggle. Almost perfect, except for the result of course. But today woke up to a disaster. No tea to be found anywhere. My normal brekkie of 2 fags and a cuppa ruined. No coffee either, so couldn't even have a subtitute breakfast.

I normally try hot lemon & honey drinks, made myself, not the packet ones, and they normally work, but have run out of lemons, doh!
Unfortunately, I can't go home, I've too much to do, as I only have a three day week next week, 4 days the week after and then I'm away for a week on holibobs (can't wait)!

I took the rice salad back this morning - it took longer to do the "paperwork" than the actual shopping trip took last eve.
Apparently it could take up to 2 months to get back to me as to why there was a lump of blue polythene in there. Ugh! The woman actually asked me if I'd like to replace it with another one .... errrr ... No!
But as I said last eve, I would have loved to have gawn to "your" outlet but my chicken would have been cold by the time I got home. Not to mention slushy mushy Ben & Jerrys!

Have spent first part of day asleep, making up for 3 broken nights due to Boleynman's wild temperature and sweats (not in a good way). he decided to sleep downstairs last night to give me a break, then appeared, waking me from a deep sleep, at 5.00am. Said he thought I'd want him there when I woke up!!!
Have had lots of lovely presents, including a smashing, genuine, yellow "Caution Wet Floor" sign for when I'm mopping the kitchen floor! They're all heart here.

My dear Mum used to love gorgonzola in with her mince pie,just pop the lid off,put in a slice and replace the lid.Husband does the same but with stilton,strange coincidence indeedy.
Signal coming through now and again so seize the moment methinks,standing by, with Mr Sheen and duster in anticipation of further meltdown aaarrrgggghhhhhhhhh.x
