I've been told i can tell you this, so I am going to tell you this.
... working from 6 a.m. every morning for the past few months?
Well that's cos' the book is out this year.
I've started to write one several times before, I've even been paid for it once ! But now is the time. And to be honest it's almost done and dusted, incredibly I've nearly finished it already - unlike when I used to be given homework apparently I'm well ahead - first gold star for years.
I spent most of today at the publishers meeting all the guys who'll be handling the process from hereon in. Nice people but so many of them! Scary but good fun, it's good to be scared - as long as it's for all the right reasons.
I have wanted to talk about it for ages but have not been able to, which is a good thing I suppose - it's meant I've just had to knuckle down and get on with it.
So, there you are and here we go.
I have read loads of other peoples to see how they've got on with theirs and I have to say my favourite by miles is Dawn French's Dear Fatty. It's so her and because of its letter format - not as predictable as others. Her true character shines right through - it's obvious her words come from the heart, I loved it.
Mine's entitled -
It's Not What You Think
Because after reading it back I don't think it will be.
Lots of love you lot.
CLP.
2009.

And it's inspired me to knuckle down and pull mine together.
Like you, I've drafted a few but in my case I haven't had the confidence to really push it forward and, despite the encouragement of friends and particularly the GD and, oddly, the ex-hubby, I've allowed disdain from one or two people who think I should concentrate on 'real' work to knock me down.
So I'm going to get on with it. I spend enough time on here and elsewhere telling people to case their dreams and not to be dragged down, so should practice what I preach, n'est-ce pas.
Good for you. One thing I'm sure of, it WON'T be what we expect.

Hi Chris:
I will most definitely buy your book. I would imagine this is going to be very cathartic for you - what a story this will be! And what a wonderful gift for your daughter to read, and Noah, in time!
I constantly asked my lovely dad to write his book - he was a fascinating man and his story would have been wonderful to read. But, he never did get around to it, so well done you!
Clodagh: is your book an autobiography? I am sure it would be brilliant - you are a natural writer - go for it. In the meantime, I'll be working behind the scenes to get Terry to write the preface!
C xx

Ah yous are all sweethearts.
Ok am on the case. Not sure about the autobiography, mind, Chrissie; there will be a few people seriously nervous if they think I'm doin' an Only The Names Have Been Changed expose, hahahaha... more of a thinly veiled novel based on my own experience, interjected with Big Fibs as I am wont to do.
In which case I'd best watch me step. Aunty Dot will be lookin' down from that big camp site in the sky and reminding me that when I tell huge whoppers I will get a big spike growin' out the top of me head.
I don't want to spend the rest of me life wearin' a balaclava, a German helmet or a mohican as camouflage now, do I.

Hi Chris and gang,
No time to read (except for Chris's of course!), thought something was going on the other day when you mentioned you'd been writing. As some of you may know I'm doing creative writing this year as part of my OU degree and the most recent TMA I've completed was life writing, which I assume is what you've been doing Chris.
I agree, I loved Dawn French's Dear Fatty, the letter idea is great and it enables you to leave out the bits of your life you don't want to talk about it. The letters to her dad were very sad, but she came across as a pretty happy person. Jonathan Ross's book was a bit of a quick read and I didn't feel I really got to know him, but I loved the chapter on nits, is there one of those in your book Chris?!
Take care guys,

Afternoon luvlies
I've had a right proper productive morning. Cleared loads. Still got loads to do, but not as many loads as about four hours ago!
I got Jonathan Ross's book for Christmas. Started it, but to be honest, I'm struggling. It's not an autobiography per se, is it? More a collection of recollections, in his own inimitable style.
Also on the pile: Paul O'Grady's book (a real curve-ball from Mr Deev, but will give it a go), the John Lennon one from Tiggs (want to take it on holibobs but it'll be half my baggage allowance - it's huge!), Russell Brand's Articles Of Faith and Irons In The Fire, a biography on Che Guevara (1000+ pages!).
I've just started a book called Sweetheart, about a female stalker/serial killer.
Promising!
Back in a bit.

Hi Penny, glad the weather is lovely where you are.
As far as this age thing is concerned, I don't subscribe to it at all. I really believe you are only as old as you feel. When I am playing football against 20 year olds, I don't use the age excuse for getting beat. In fact it inspires be to beat THEM!!!! YEEHAA!!

I know I have said it before but .....
Just a line to say I’m living,
That I’m not among the dead
Though I’m getting more forgetful
and mixed up in the head
I’ve got used to all my ailments
To my teeth I am resigned
I can manage my bifocals
But dear God I miss my Mind.
For sometimes I can’t remember
As I stand at the foot of the stair
If I must go up for something
Or, I’ve just come down from there
And before the fridge so often
My poor mind is filled with doubt
Have I just put food away, or
Have I come to take some out
And there’s times when it is dark
With my nightcap on my head
I don’t know if I’m retiring
Or just getting out of bed
So if it’s my turn to write you
There’s no need of getting sore
I may think that I have written
And don’t want to be a bore
So remember I do love you
And I wish that you were near
But now it’s nearly mail time
So must say “goodbye” my dear
Here I stand beside the mail box
With a face so very red
Instead of mailing you my letter
I have opened it instead.
On the other hand, I could try playing against Bondy's 20 year olds - yee haa indeed !!!

Ditto, all the above comments regarding the Police.
When did the default position for commenting on the Police become to attack and criticise every single thing they do....
Where they do wrong....deal with it...but the media must get it in proportion, and not constantly come down on the side of the idiot who stands there refusing to do as they are told and antagonising the individual to breaking point.
Any of the stories going around at the moment, taken out of context and looked at in isolation look dreadful...put back into context with the background of several hours of abuse and physical attacks, in my opinion paint a different story....it's not black and white!!!

Gingembre. Good question. I'd have to borrow a line from Mr Bon Jovi and go with something like 'I'll Sleep When I'm Dead', because it fits my philosophy of doing what I can and seeing as many places as I can, while I can, and also is a twist on my ongoing battle with sleep, or rather the lack of it.

Just read the article, hear hear to all of the above.
Mind you. The young copper who pulled me over on the A55 North Wales Cresta Run one sunny Sunday afternoon as I hurtled along to catch me boat, might be surprised to hear it.
Poor lamb. I reckon he and his mate were a bit bored and probably lookin' forward to clockin' off on a quiet Sunday, but when they finally woo-woo'd past me after shadowing me for several miles (I have to confess I was cursin' and willing them to bugger off so I could get me foot down), I was a bit bemused. So imagine my reaction when, having wound down the window, smiling sweetly, I was met with Gordon Ramsay with a wasp in 'is trolleys.
Not being one to be intimidated, I stepped out the car, only then to remember I was wearin' me comfy jammy bottoms, a vest and a head full of velcro rollers. Anyway, in for a penny, I thought, and a right good finger-waggling ticking-off ensued with my telling him if I were his mum he'd get a thick ear for speaking to me in that fashion; whereupon he put his book away, gave me a caution, not sure what for, and returned, dazed and red-faced, to his vehicle and his sniggerin' mate.
I reckon they only let me off out of a mixture of compassion and terror. Maybe they thought I might have a knife.
Or maybe we're all human.

And MC and Debs. Ah yes the Holland's meat pies. And puddin's. We used to dish them up with chips and peas for the players' Free Teas at the rugby club in the days when we used to run the Ladies' Section, fetlock-deep in chip fat, damp sugar and oranges. And that's a whole new area I won't go into just now; but just to add that after the match against the 'Quins, and Will Carling turned up at the hatch to claim his free tea but sans ticket, our Lady Chairman, who would have given Norah Batty a run for her money, refused to oblige, despite pleas from the more star-struck young members of the team, and was heard to roar, "Listen. I don't care if 'e's KING of England, 'e's not gettin' 'is free tea 'ere without 'is ticket."

Actually, that's got me thinking now ........
As you grow old with someone, do you stop fancying them?
Do you look at them and see an old man (or woman)? Or do you still see that person you met oh so many years ago, wiuth that twinkle in their eye and sexy smile?
When we look at an old couple on a bus, we see white hair, walking sticks, wrinkles ... do they look at each other and still see the hot young thing they fell in love with?
If I'm honest, that kinda frightens me. Will I wake up one morning and my blue-eyes long-haired hubby will suddenly have turned into an old man overnight?
Will he look at me and suddenly think "she's turned into her nanna"?
I just can't imagine being old. Like, proper old. Like my nan old - 87. That is really old, isn't it? Over twice my life plus another 7 years on top of that.
Lorks! Have right proper scared myself now!

But as Renee always says when anyone suggests to her that after all these years since the DDF passed away, that it might be nice for her to have another companion, she looks at men of her age and thinks, "Now, what would I want with an old man?".. and then thinks of how the DDF would look now, bless 'im. MrS walked in and I can honestly say, my heart skipped a beat. And that's after 35 years, so I must really fancy him!

That's really bad, isn't it.
Complain about this comment
Cheryl: don't beat yourself up in any way. If arrangements had not been made to retain your dad's ashes, then the undertakers will have taken care of them - i.e. they would be scattered in a Garden of Remembrance.
Can you ask your mum, or a relative who would have been dealing with his funeral, what the arrangements were?
When my husband's parents died, it never occurred to us to keep their ashes, but when my own parents died, we did arranged to have them buried. Everyone does it differently, so don't you feel bad if you don't know what was organised.
Sorry to go on!

His ashes are with his partner. Sadly, things were not good between us after his death (I've mentioned the anger I felt at the time on here before, and you were wonderful then too). After his fneral (abroad - I felt such a stranger) I asked her what she had planned and she just passed comment about leaving a little bit of him in each of his favourite bars in the village (in Spain).
Needless to say, I was not amused.
And we've not spoken since.

Cheryl: yes, I remember well when you told us how things were when your dad died, and really, you have dealt with everything so well since then.
If it was left to his partner to deal with his ashes, then that was completely out of your hands. All I can say is, he's completely at peace and you have nothing to question yourself over.
Can I just say, and this is the kind of family I come from, we scattered some of my mum and dad's ashes in their favourite pub too! As we left the pub, we said to the bemused barmaid, now just take care when you're sweeping up tonight, our parents are under the table at the window!

Might have to make do with a fizzy apple juice drink Deev, me being at work and all - I'm still the newbie here, so don't want to create a bad impression just yet!! They've got all the time in the world to find out what I'm really like hehe.

Hey Chris, see if you can get the phrase 'and he wore massive yellow shoes' into your book.
That way, when I read it, I'll feel like a spy receiving a coded message...

we are on house arrest today waiting for my new chairs to be delivered - hooray!! will be very posh - till the cat uses them for a bed for the first time then that will be it!!
hope everyone is ok - the sun is shining here in Cornwall and all is well with the world when that happens!!!

Tiggs ... I know! But I mean, where did it come from? Have I been supressing my inner-Abba without realising???
Very scary. I'm not an Abba kinda gal. Never looked good in a catsuit. Never. And as for blue eye-shadow. Just don't go there.
Custard donuts. My faves. Oh to munch one off of Russell's ...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Focus Deev.
Come on Nicki Noos. Put us all out of our collective misery .....

i don't think it is good for anyone to suppress their inner anything (!) and if it means breaking into song then so much the better!!

Deev - your ABBA renditions (sp?) remind me of one of the best concerts ever. Took little sis to see them at Wembley - about 1979 me thinks. AB fab it was. After being given Waterloo on a 45 for my b-day, when it won at Euro song thingy I was hooked.
All together now....can you hear the drums Fernando?

beez - go to www.tps.co.uk and get yourself put on a preference scheme (ie you prefer not to get cold calls). stops 90% of them. then when they do occasionally get through you can say you are on a preference and there is a £1,000 fine if they are convicted!! works every time!!

Morning, afternoon everyone. Well the weather people were right. It just poured with rain yesterday afternoon and evening. It's cloudy but bright this morning, but more rain, and wait for it...... possible snow (yup snow) over night....... but it is still supposed to be in the 70s this weekend.
Did you watch the arsenal v liverpool game last night. What a game....... Fantastic for the neutrals, but do teams not know how to defend anymore?????
Hope you're all having a great day!!!

Hi Bondy
Sadly, couldn't see the match. As you say a good one for neutrals. Not many of them in our house though with a Scouse Blue beloved.
Just hope our Alex puts out a decent side tonight instead of babies!
Clash of the Blue's could be interesting as well.

I think the true art of defending has flown out the window for fear of ridiculous booking and over-zealous refereeing.

Hi AliB, sounds like you're getting some nice weather.
Hi Steffi, I questioned the decision to field such a young side on saturday, and it almost paid off, but..... well less said about that the better. I think it should be a good game tonight. So too should the clash of the blues (as you put it) game. I think both teams still have a point to prove......

Morning/Afternoon all,
Been a-lurking for a while, thought I'd say hello today though! so... Hello!
Bondy - Snap. monday all day and night = rain. slight reprieve yesterday morning, but then all afternoon and night = rain. This morning? pouring with rain. They keep trying to tell us it'll be in the 80's at the weekend... believe it when I see it.... Our neighbours tell us where we live used to be a swamp - certainly looks like it this morning.
Hells, Lovely post. I look back at pictures from when I met Mr Dragon 10 years ago, and think "coo we look young", but I didn't notice us changing. So I think when you get older with a person you don't really realize or think of them getting older as you're doing it gradually together. Or maybe I'm just talking rubbish who knows?!
Hope everyone's alright,
Dragonxx

Think most in the game questioned the wisdom. Hey ho! Was fantastic to be there despite a. the result and b. was with said blue beloved who beamed all the way home and still is!
Points to prove....the more points the merrier. A good night to be had me thinks....
