Hats off for the Hero of the Hudson River.

Chris Evans | 10:51 UK time, Friday, 16 January 2009

What a guy...

... lands a plane, with a hundred and fifty odd on board, in an ice-cold river with NO ENGINES, EVERYONE gets out alive, no one even has any serious injuries AND he walks up and down the plane TWICE to make sure everyone's escaped safely.

I think the chap deserves a half a cold drink, don't you ?

Blown away by that story today.

Also, just in - went out with our old boss Dame Douglas last night.

We enjoyed fine food and good chat. She is now earning megabucks heading up a whole new wing of Universal music. Our loss has, indeed, been their gain. She is ace.

A new boss will be annonuced soon. I understand, well to be honest I know, there are some top class candidiates. Exciting times.

Tash is way heavy with unborn child nowadays. She is so ready to drop. She says it's beginning to get uncomfortable. I have tried to explain to her it used to be exactly the same for me after a night on the pints. She has so far failed to find sympathy with this rationale.

Hey ho there you go.

Have a great weekend and make sure you're here for Monday.

LOTS OF LOVE.

CLP.

2009.

One of the older guys (incidentally not a dad, not that that matters) said 'she's having that babe tonight' and lo and behold we all came to work next day to find that Ryan Jeremy (named after Giggs and Daddy) had indeed made his appearance that night, 22 days early!

To one and all, the FNWC and all others, I hope and trust that you are enjoying, embracing and indulging in your Friday evening festivities and frivolities.

It's my birthday today and to say I am exctied about the weekend would be a pathetically blundering understatment. A drive to Whistler this afternoon, an evening of fine food and a couple of pints, a warm log cabin and the finest company a man could dare to wish to contemplate to dream of.

Tomorrow, after a no-doubt hearty breakfast, it's off to the woods for some dog-sledding and then an afternoon stroll in the snow. Naturally, this will culminate in a couple of cheeky mid-afternoon potations and an evening of piquant wine and tapas in one of my favourite resort eateries.

I can but wish, to each and every one of you lovely buggers, that you have an equally joyous weekend and utterly indulgent time with whomever you see fit.

    I'm jealous man.

I'm going back to California in July and Indianapolis in August. The closest I've been to Canada I'm afraid.

    Have fun mate. Happy Birthday.

well a while ago I mentioned on here that I had lost my beloved TFI Friday tshirt (actually it was taken from the beach when I was on honeymoon!) anyway....
I asked the lovely bloggers on here whether anyone knew how I could get a new one (or a second hand one) as it was my fave top and I was gutted at my loss.
It then turned into a bit of a mission and out of the blue Chris mentioned just prior to his move that he'd found some TFI memorabilia and wondered what to do with it???
To say I (and other bloggers) were excited was an understatement and we waited with baited breath.
A few bloggers (usually Bs mum) occasionally mentioned it and then just before Christmas Chris - again out of the blue - announced that he hadn't forgotten my Chrimbo TFI memorabilia present.
This was folowed a few days later by his dilemma that he had intended to give me acool TFI holdall but couldn't find it, so instead he was considering sending me a customised TFI Doc Martin boot which sat in his office....only one pair ever made and although he could never part with them both he was willing to send me one.
This is the point when I hit the floor with a thud and couldnt believe how lucky I was and that his generosity knew no bounds. He had no need to do this but that's the man.
Anyway, his first post after Christams was a picture of it, and then today it arrived....and what a cool, funky boot it is.
    Hope that made sense?
I am humbled and need to go now just so I can stare at it some more...pics on fb later tonight hopefully (if I can hold the camera still!!!)

Many people (not here by the way) think these famous, money laden folk are not in touch with reality and are just arrogant people.

Some are, I know, but for the most part, as Chris has proved, they are genuine folk, even if they have 'celebrity' (whatever that is) and a few quid in their post office account.

Absolute travesty about Donington losing the MotoGP CTD. However, that's big business for you, and there's plenty going on behind the scenes over that one!!

It's called politics. The series owners of GP have gone for Silverstone, and for bike racing it sucks I'm afraid. Flat, characterless and not a great choice. £115 million being spent on Doni for the Formula 1, and great minds didn't meet in the middle for MotoGP to stay there.

Superbikes, however, remain. 2009 is the last Brit GP at Doni, at least for 5 years if the contract holds water.

I'd rather see another round elsewhere in the world and drop the British round. I'm old school though, so maybe a bit set in my ways. Plus, of course the BBC have the coverage of MotoGP in the UK, unrivalled. Eurosport have been dropped for 2009.

I'm going on, as I'm involved, apologies.

It's my first day here, so I don't want to come across as a 'know all' or as Mr. I am.

Been nice getting to know you all today, so I'll keep my life as a developing story rather than wade in and get on anyone's nerves.

The track has its faults, but its a great place. Over the years the changes have been noticeable - the stands in the exhibition centre geting fewer and fewer year on year.

Donington sure does have it's faults, always has, facilities wise. I first went way back when the Transatlantic meetings between the Brits and the Yanks was still going. My all time hero is Wayne Rainey.

I've been into bike racing since I could walk. Long story, but here we are in 2009, some 30 years later. Get bike racing in the blood, it's there for life.

People knock it, but after that first time you go, you're hooked.

Before I got involved, when I was much younger, we camped every year for WSBK and GP in snow, wind, rain, the lot. Brands Hatch WSBK used to be a mecca. I can tell you some stories.

I don't want this Friday wine bar turning into a requiem, but you are spot on.

That whole weekend was a disaster.

Rubens Barrichello had a huge accident on the Friday that he was lucky to escape, and then the Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger was killed during qualifying.

I'd studied Senna, and you could tell in his eyes that he almost kind of knew himself it wasn't right. They should have abadoned that meeting, but hindsight, and the racing 'mind' doesn't allow it.

Major loss, broadcast live on TV the world over. Formula 1 died with him.

Do you remember when Jurgen Fuches rear-ended Ralf Waldmann in the 250s a few years ago, and Waldmann referred to Fuches on a live interview on Eurosport as a "w".

    That was so funny!

Loss of Eurosport coverage is bad too (sorry BBC). I'll really miss the Ryder/Moodie/Mamola team - full of humour and blokey banter about the brolly girls etc. I only hope the Beeb continue to show the 125s and 250s - the Bradly Smiths and Scot Reddings of today will hopefully be the Stoner's and Rossi's of tomorrow.

Now the veggie lasagne is for me mainly because we have a high proportion of veggies and or nut free people and this makes sense - and should be lovely with salad on a hot day.

However -steak and ale pie - does this sould common to you - would it be okay for a wedding? Would you be disappointed to go to a wedding and find pie on the menu? If you could let me know i would be greatful!

While catching up with Celebrity Big Brother online (sad I know) last night, I skimmed through the blog and made a comment which I should probably have not done because after all this is just a blog and here for all members of the public to read and contribute too.

It seems strange to me that the public voted Tina out as she has been one of the more entertaining members of the house along with Terry Christian. The rest being dullards.

No doubt they will be saying next "It's not the same without Tina".
Yes indeed, people can be quite strange, which brings me to bullying a subject discussed on here recently.

I once had a job where I needed quite a bit of support from staff. This posed no problem as I generally get along with most people.
That was until a certain young lady came along and suddenly the attitude of the staff completely changed and smiling helpful faces were replaced by scowling unhelpul ones.
One member of staff however remained loyal and told me the terrible things that had been said and to be uncooperative towards me.
She befriended all the staff and became over familar with them and consequently made me look the bad guy.
So yes, bullying sadly exists in all walks of life and as TT remarked on here women seem to be particularly good at it.

Evening people, how was you day?

    Great I hope.

Oh man, thought I was about to scoop the lottery a moment ago. The first two numbers drawn, I had. And then, get this, each of the final four numbers drawn were within two digits of what I had.

Didn't even get a £10, but for the stroke of a pen, I could of had it all. The trials and tribulations of life, eh?

That's the closest I've been for ages. The most I ever won was £62 for four numbers.

Oh well, no mansion in Switzerland living next door to Phil Collins this weekend. I'll have it next week :)

Thanks for all the nice words, however, I've been wandering if Gingembre has popped that champagne yet and quaffed it out of his boot???

It has to be done :)

Yesterday was great. Some top folks on here. I'm having a quiet Saturday. In fact, done nothing all day, and I've loved it.

Just chilled, relaxed, the kids were out all day, so a rare day of peace to just kick back.

Early doors beer? I've done it in reverse today. Not touched a drop, but just popped a few beers in the last hour or so. Kids are in bed, got some football on in the background (muted) and some top 80's tracks on. Bliss.

    I'm an 80's boy at heart :)

Bit quiet for me until the racing season really kicks off, then it's manic.

    Gingembre,

I'm on your wavelength buddy. I heard Radcliffe and Maconie on about the re-release of Now 1, so I went and sourced a copy. Still got the original release on vinyl, along with the very first 'Hits' album, as well as some very rare vinyl from years gone by.

My old man has got an original release copy of the 'White Album', by the Beatles, still in it's original cellophane wrapping, untouched!!!! It's worth a mint.

I love a chilled Saturday night, muted TV to catch your eye and my compilation of 80's hits, sourced from the interweb, burned off, and playing. Few beers, MOTD later on mute to see the goals......super duper rooper pooper :)

Also, after months of searching, I finally got hold of a copy of a track from 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off', that was never released, but many folk have tried to find.

It's called 'Beat city' by the Flowerpot Men (no, not the original Flowerpot Men). Been after it for an age. Well chuffed. Got an MP3 of it today.

CTD, been on the lash eh? Fair play my friend. And a chinese too? Nice!!!

Might stick on the 'Icicle Works' CD I have. Remember them? I love the track 'Evangeline'. Great 80's throwback.

Fell off the wagon in spectacular fashion last night.

I was going to pen a long missive about drink, my life and the universe in general, but I won't bore you with it.

Suffice to say, I have climbed back aboard said wagon and we're rolling. Rawhide.

    A quick question.

As I have mentioned, we're off to Berlin in March to see The Killers, but having never been before I haven't a clue where to go and what to do. Any ideas?

Classic Dining Moments. No. 37 in a series of 271.

We were in LA one time, and feeling rather pretentious, I phoned the concierge and asked if he could book us a table at Spago Beverly Hills, not for a second thinking we'd get one. An hour later he phones and says, 'yep, you're in, 7.00 tomorrow'.

This turned into a very nerve-wracking experience, mostly about the potential cost, but we duly glammed up and got ourselves a cab into BH.

As we arrived, we were treated like Hollywood royalty, albeit we didn't arrive in a limo, and we were shown to our table. Next to us on one side was Steve Martin, and moments later Sidney Poitier arrived. There was also a bunch of young guys with excessively gelled hair, but being an old fogey from Sussex, I hadn't a clue who they were.

After choosing our dishes, and the second cheapest wine on the list - always a mistake, the sommelier knows exactly what you are doing - we sat back to bathe in our experience and gaze at the original Picassos that adorned the walls.

As dinner arrived, I was tapped on the shoulder and looking up, I found myself staring at Wolfgang Puck, chef and proprietor. 'How is everything?', he asked in his thick Austrian accent. 'Umm, umm, flabulous, terriflick, lubley, I dribbled', shocked at being in such esteemed company.

And so we strung the night out as long as we could, gawping at the 'I ams' and 'ooh, dontcha knows' that came and went. The food bill wasn't too bad all said and done. What did for us was the Jack Daniels that we necked at $10 a shot in the bar afterwards.

    But it was worth it.

Off for a trot around the village now before settling down to watch the chaps pop a few past the Hammers.

I'm not quite sure what has changed, but I am so less stressed than I used to be. I can sleep, I enjoy being on the wagon (except for last night, of course) and I feel fitter than ever. Not bad for a borderline 40-something.

    Be happy.

    Peace

See you here about half 3 to compare notes then??!

Now, celeb eating haunts. We've been to The Ivy twice now and loved it both times. Not pretentious. Food fantastic. Atmosphere relaxed and welcoming. And the bill .... not extortionate, in the greater scheme of things. Gonna take my mate there for lunch in May when Himself is away with the chaps in the Lake District. She's a Maccy D's girl at heart, so we'll see how it goes!

Spago always makes me think of Jackie Collins novels tho .... did you see her in there?

Thus far this morn I have been uploading even more CDs to my iPod - will it EVER fill up? it's like the gadget equivalent of the magic porridge pot!

    Back soon, I should imagine.

Expanding on 'celeb eateries', we've popped into Joe Allen in Covent Garden a few times and, cringingly (if that is not a word it ought to be) I got squiffy in there once and said hello to Damien Lewis. Of course, we've done Mr. E's pubs loads of times (with the great man himself) and we are off to Le Manoir this year. Slightly interesting fact, Brandon Flowers (of Killers fame - whom we are off to see in Berlin) used to work in the Spago offshoot in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. There is the remotest chance that he may have served us at some point in history.

Reminds me of Ukraine last year. A goot inter contact with a beautiful bird and she blew the 'eart outta my engine... and a nearly turned ter the drink - know what am sayin'!!!!!!
The pilot of this plane is a BIG 'ero for 'is split decision... decisions ter stick it in the drink after only gettin' ter 3,000 feet.... No doubt about it all... but a can tell yer why the plane survived so well!!
'e stuck it in a smooth.... ish river noot the ocean. Yer see if yer do an emergency landing in the ocean yuv goot waves, roughness of the sea ter tend with. Ave yer ever driven an F1 car at 150mph on a track with 1.5 metre bumps every metre??... NYET!!!!!! (And that's being generous)
Stick it on a city river, yuv just goot pleasure cruises, plastic swans, wedding reception cruises and the odd mafia boat doing abitta smuggling ter avoid.
Avoid them and yer 'PLANE SAILING' - know what am sayin'!!!!!!
A smooth river is like driving an F1 car at 150mph along Silverstone race circuit after Wirral Borough Council ave 'ad their road speed 'ump speed reduction scheme engineers in ter relay the track, even though the area is covered by North'amptonshire Council... bad but noot as bad as the ocean!!!
Dropping a plane in the river, first yer lose as much speed as yer can, down ter around the 150mph area - about as slow as a big plane will fly before it drops aka loses upward lift under yer winds. Then yer stick yer back end in with yer nose up and try ter bring the nose down, using yer wing flaps ter lose speed. The only problem yer engines 'anging down will cause a BIG splash as they dig in the water.... But if yer keep the plane totally level - which is difficult if it's abit breezy, then 'opefully it should come done relatively smoothly and the engines digging in will stop the plane VERY quickly!!!!!
But if one engine digs in too much it can very violently turn the aircraft ter that direction and cause a severe impact and even break the plane up. It's a shame that when yer lose yer engines and 'ave ter drop it in the drink, yer couldn't really lose yer engines.... as a plane otherwise would land quiet smoothly on water!!!!
Now yer might ask 'ow do I know all this..... a rode in the back of a black cab last week!!!!@!!!!!@!!!!

Talkin' of dropping. Am surprised noot ter 'ear the exciting news yet of the little CLP/ Tash DJ!!!
After reading CLP's commentations above, and some of the blogs, a really thought it waz gonna be a weekend visit ter the maternity ward for Tash and CLP.... a checked the blog before... no news yet all!!!!

Also all, talkin' of good news ave 'ad some brilliant news of me own all, maybe 2009 is finally changing me life ter good..... all i'll say for now iz a waz in court on Fridee... i'll bang full details on the blog termoz.... that's if there's noot some even better news from CLP boy, about a boy!!!!!

Das veedanya..... get me a banana fast.... GOURANGA ter yersens!!!!!!

Hi Lindy and Bingo and anyone else who's lurking - how is it Sunday night already?!

I managed to lurk briefly during FNWC and saw the amazing and very kind offer from Tobes to Chezza - rendering her speechless must be a first (LOL!) - but I wasn't on my own 'pooter so felt that I couldn't be cheeky enough to log on there and contribute.

In all the excitement did we ever find out what CTD's original big secret was?

I've made a significant decision today and am now all nervous about it, but although I don't want to seem like a drama queen I can't say any more just yet, as there are things still to be sorted out. It is either an excellent and wise decision or a very foolish one and I don't know which yet!!

And to Gingembre and Rosie (the Spurs one) - I suppose 1-1 isn't unreasonable in the circs but I was horrified to hear them go behind. I can't remember any league table, even back pre-Premiership that has been so tight as this one - 2 points covering 8 teams!!

Surely it can't be Monday morning and work again in only 12 or so hours? Noooo....

    Happy evening all

Lyndyloo and anyone else who's aving trouble blogging.... in the words of The Fonejacker's Terry Tibbs.... "TALK ter me, TALK ter me".... don't worry a will.... A used ter ave the same problem on the blog and a discovered a flaw in the blog operating systems.... The software doesn't like the 'and' sign. Yer know the one that looks like an eight gone wrong or a plus sign. Yer know the one that looks like the one yer maths teacher used ter use... alot!
I used ter start all my blogs with "ello CLP... 'and' all" but with an 'and sign' and wondered why none of me damn blogs ever goot through!!!!!!
So remember all.... avoid the 'and sign' and the 'plus' and all will be ok!!!!
And if yer do do a post and it fails ter show. 'it backspace ter get yer commentation back... check it big and a bet yuv accidently put an and sign or a plus in there that's only gonna lead ter a minus - know what am sayin'!!!!!!

    'ope this 'elps!!!!!@!

    How the devil are you?

I'm sat here having a beer (naughty on a Sunday) watching the big NFL games from the States.

I know, I know, not many Brits get it, but I love it.

Got you guys to chat away to, what could be better?

Yeah, after 3 days as a member here, I got CTD speechless? What do I win? :)

Hi Tobes - not sure what your prize should be - maybe a weekend in the blog shed with all the beer you can drink?

I used to love NFL in the early days but went off it when it wasn't on mainstream TV any more. I refuse to pay for S*y but do have freeserve these days which gives a bit more choice but I'm not a huge TV watcher - just certain programmes, as some of us were discussing last week before you joined in.

Having a dry night tonight, with an early start tomorrow but munching on a pretzel or two all the same. Enjoy the game!

If so and you could also effect an introduction there our Cheryl would die of happiness and I'd not be far behind.............but then I could sneak into Diva mansions and purloin that ticket she has for next summer's gig...............hey that's not a bad idea!

Pity a) I'm actually a fairly honest and trustworthy woman and b) I've no idea where she lives except it's in Essex! LOL!
