Chris Evans | 10:38 UK time, Thursday, 29 January 2009

It's figures day gang...

... it's like getting your school report.

Every three months we get our audience figures, very detailed figures, quarter on quarter, year on year. And this time, whoopee, we are rocking !

So thank you lovely listeners of the Radio 2 ship, we thank you for sailing with us and please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your voyage even more enjoyable.

The thing is, when the figures go up, there is not enough joy, as we are all just so relieved. Ha ha, hilarious. Be ready for the worst and hope for the best, that way you're guaranteed to drive yourself mad.

Terry's flying, we're flying, don't know the other shows figures yet but they'll be around I'm sure.

Baby due date, officially ten hours fifty five minutes in. All quiet on the western front and we're going out for a Chinese tonight. Spicy me thinks.

Peace and love dudes.

clp.

2009.

Good relationship with her now.

This was way before my time - however I my suggestion is that if you know her parents talk to them and try and organise a meeting between son and ex with grandparents in attendance (nothing like being told off by your mum and dad to keep things civil and common sense prevailing!)

Another track that smacks of "novelty"... Gavin & Stacey actors Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon have been tempted to release Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's Islands In The Stream, which their characters Nessa and Uncle Bryn sing on the hit comedy show. Apparently there's a group on Facebook pushing for it. Haven't people got anything better to do with their time?

    MizzDarcey - welcome.

Some friends of mine had a similar problem when the woman just moved away to another part of the UK with all her kids - some by another man. In their case their son got a new girlfriend and decided to give up after a short while (which we've never understood) and I don't think could do anything more. Now they never talk about it - presumably it is too painful.

I'd agree that if possible using dook's approach would be a better first step than using legal routes - they should be a later, or last resort.

I'm in danger of going into a long rant about selfish some people who use their kids as pawns - so will stop there. The best of luck to you.

My cousin has recently split from her partner - he wants to see his son often and she has moved away - but because his name is on the birth cert she is scared that he could get the law on his side and she will just let him have access. I think Dook's way is a really good idea but if the partner just doesn't want to know or even the parents can't help there's only the law courts left. Suggest son gets advice on situation so that he is armed with all he needs to know and how to play it going forwards.

mizz darcy - welcome! as a newby myself i think you will enjoy the experience!

if your son's ex has seen a solicitor then i think he should too if only for information. he doesn't actually have to instruct them to do anything, sometimes it can just be helpful to talk it over and find out what your "rights" are from one who knows! look at a solicitor who is part of "Resolution" - used to be Solicitors FamilyLawAssoc - they are supposed to promote a conciliatory way of doing things.
also there is mediation - where they go to a meeting together and a trained mediator lets them talk together but does not allow it to end up in a row. this would be before court (and in my view should be before too much between solicitors).

if it goes to court it is likely the court will insist on some court-based mediation too.

if he hasn't done anything wrong then i should think a court will be sympathetic to his situation.

mind you that doesn't force her to be helpful ... personality transplants are tricky things!! (that wasn't meant to be unfeeling!)

(Mr CG would say it is also useful for the crossword to pass the time if things are taking ages!).

Best of luck for the impending birth. Can remember during my pregnancies I was told to avoid using Lavender oil as it was known to bring on labour according to my midwife. So it might be an idea to get the massage oils out.

And Bingo: I think B-sMum said this to you: not all women want a "bad guy". Personally, I'm a scaredy-cat and I would never have been attracted to some guy who was going to cause me trouble. Most women want a "good guy" - someone who will look after them - Take out the rubbish. Buy an occasional bottle of wine. Be completely understanding when you are still going to see Westlife when you are past 50. Trust me, she is out there - stop looking for her, and she will find you!

Incidentally she only sees him about 3 times a year too. And I used to drive myself mad trying to keep the bond between all of them and my daughter. I actually used to take her over to the old woman to visit and get abs no thanks at all. Eventually I gave up and result was no contact from her. That was 10 years ago! And as few people on here have said they don't know the full picture but it is irrelevant (even if there is an untold story) as the most important person is the child. My own parents to this day do not understand a grandparent not wishing to keep contact with a grandchild (or child). About 3 years ago a colleague died suddenly at only 47 or so and as her cremation service ended a track called something like "I hope you'll dance" was played. It was her favourite, and although I didn't know it then, it has been on the radio a few times since and I always stop what I'm doing and think of her.

    The Vanilla pudding Robbery

This is just too funny not to share... Excerpted from an article which appeared in The Dublin Times about a bank robbery on March 2.

Once inside the bank shortly after midnight, their efforts at disabling the security system got underway immediately. The robbers, who expected to find one or two large safes filled with cash & valuables, were surprised to see hundreds of smaller safes throughout the bank.

The robbers cracked the first safe's combination, and inside they found only a small bowl of vanilla pudding.

As recorded on the bank's audio tape system, one robber said, 'At least we'll have a bit to eat.'

The robbers opened up a second safe, and it also contained nothing but vanilla pudding. The process continued until all safes were opened.

They did not find one pound sterling, a diamond, or an ounce of gold. Instead, all the safes contained covered little bowls of pudding.

Disappointed, the robbers made a quiet exit, each leaving with nothing more than a queasy, uncomfortably full stomach. The newspaper headline read:

'IRELAND'S LARGEST SPERM BANK ROBBED EARLY THIS MORNING'....

Good news on the listening figures, but no wonder when the show is so enjoyable.

I was looking forward to seeing the doggy pics, particularly Biscuit the winner, but can't find them- have they been removed? It's probably just me.

I'm very fond of the name Biscuit for a pet, I had a lovely golden hamster of that name some 12 years ago. I took the name Biscuit from a hamster that the wonderful John Peel owned in the 60s. A name with a fine rock and roll pedigree, then.

I have a Top Tenuous with Rob Brydon - when I was a little girl I was on a TV show filmed at the same studios that he used when he worked in Wales... I never seem get through with the Tenuous' so I'll post it here.

My guess of 6lb 15oz was based on my thinking of an early arrival, however as due date comes and goes I reckon anyone under the 7lb guess will be out! No huge science just a hunch from a dad-of-three!

Been awake pretty much all night, youngest has had a cold and woke up at 1230ish, then we wrestled, cuddled and generally stayed up on the sofa til around 530/6 before she drifted off to sleep again.....only to wake at 8! Long day ahead methinks???

Chezza - hope today is a brighter one

Gingembre and MWa! - it seems to have been the night for little sleep. I had just dozed off nicely when I was was awoken by my teenager at 11.30 and couldn't get back off for ages, then woke at 4.30 and stayed awake until it was time to get up.

After only one remotely good night in the last 7 I feel like something the cat dragged in! Glad it's Friday and hope we all can get a good rest tonight.

Icy round here today - brrrr..............

    Ah NO.

Watchin' the news on Ireland AM this morning, I am dismayed to see Michael MacIntyre bein' impeached for cheekily tryin' to sell Barack O'Bama's seat. What, on e-bay?

This is terrible. I shall miss his lovely thick head of hair, too.

Still, as my Granny always usedta say to the War Hero Granddad as he attempted to conceal the bald patch by wearin' the cap, even on the operatin' table, Grass Doesn't Grow On A Busy Street.

Now then. In celebration of the listening figures, can I make my proposal for ARF.

I too had little sleep last night about 3 hours, something to do with a ELH Pizza!!Well that's what I'm blaming anyway. Might have acutally been an overdose of garlic, as me and him don't get on that well.

    Morning all

Right, I shall endeavour to be fully mojo'd up to the eyeballs today. Thanks for yesterday - and I really, really mean it. I was feeling a bit down at heel - nothing serious, just missing a mate that's all. Said mate will be back soon tho, and I have a nice meal out tonight with another mate so lots of girly goss and confessions galore to be had! And for once I'm not driving - hurrah!!

Mojo therapy this morning was courtesy of some Libertines, Boston, AC/DC, Echo & The Bunnymen, a bit of The Cure and even some Bazza with his yellow feathers. Can highly recommend it!

Have posted an absolute Anthem above - this is what Mr Russell Edward Brand strutted on stage to the other week - now every time I hear it I shall grin like a feckless eejit!

Will be dipping in throughout the day as per norm and posting the baby weights guesses later.

    Love you all.
    Truly. Madly. Deeply.
