Back in the black.
It's figures day gang...
... it's like getting your school report.
Every three months we get our audience figures, very detailed figures, quarter on quarter, year on year. And this time, whoopee, we are rocking !
So thank you lovely listeners of the Radio 2 ship, we thank you for sailing with us and please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your voyage even more enjoyable.
The thing is, when the figures go up, there is not enough joy, as we are all just so relieved. Ha ha, hilarious. Be ready for the worst and hope for the best, that way you're guaranteed to drive yourself mad.
Terry's flying, we're flying, don't know the other shows figures yet but they'll be around I'm sure.
Baby due date, officially ten hours fifty five minutes in. All quiet on the western front and we're going out for a Chinese tonight. Spicy me thinks.
Peace and love dudes.
clp.
2009.

Hi
Long time lurker here and great fan of Chris and this blog. I live near two of Chris's pubs and have met him several times and he really is just as it says on the packet!! Congratulations CLP on the figures - you really do make so many people happy.
I've finally taken the plunge because you lot seem to give out such good advice and support to each other and I wondered if anyone had been in the position of not being allowed to see their children?
My son is going through this now - his ex partner won't let him see his baby daughter and wants to cut us out completely - any suggestions what we can do?

Ooooh Nasty one that Mizz Darcey! Mr Egg had a few issues with stepsons Mum in the early years culminating in solicitors letters - however persevered along with grandparents (on both sides) intervention and now everything is hunky dorey and actually when she gets fed up of him and his teenage ways she sends him to us to sort out. Good relationship with her now.
This was way before my time - however I my suggestion is that if you know her parents talk to them and try and organise a meeting between son and ex with grandparents in attendance (nothing like being told off by your mum and dad to keep things civil and common sense prevailing!)

MizzDarcey,
Very difficult to comment without knowing the reason why this situation exists.
Having said that, dookeggs suggestion of going through her parents may help the healing process (assuming the damage can be fixed).
My only word of caution would be that your son needs to be the architect of this. If you interfere too much directly, you could make the situation worse.

Another track that smacks of "novelty"... Gavin & Stacey actors Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon have been tempted to release Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's Islands In The Stream, which their characters Nessa and Uncle Bryn sing on the hit comedy show. Apparently there's a group on Facebook pushing for it. Haven't people got anything better to do with their time?

MizzDarcey - welcome.
Some friends of mine had a similar problem when the woman just moved away to another part of the UK with all her kids - some by another man. In their case their son got a new girlfriend and decided to give up after a short while (which we've never understood) and I don't think could do anything more. Now they never talk about it - presumably it is too painful.
I'd agree that if possible using dook's approach would be a better first step than using legal routes - they should be a later, or last resort.
I'm in danger of going into a long rant about selfish some people who use their kids as pawns - so will stop there. The best of luck to you.

Congratulations Chris and Drivetime team on your "school" report figures.
An excellent show, well executed, good teamwork that shows and top music thrown in. Makes my drive home all the more enjoyable.
To MizDarcy - sorry that your son as to go through this. If his name is on the birth certificate he does have legal rights. My cousin has recently split from her partner - he wants to see his son often and she has moved away - but because his name is on the birth cert she is scared that he could get the law on his side and she will just let him have access. I think Dook's way is a really good idea but if the partner just doesn't want to know or even the parents can't help there's only the law courts left. Suggest son gets advice on situation so that he is armed with all he needs to know and how to play it going forwards.

mizz darcy - welcome! as a newby myself i think you will enjoy the experience!
if your son's ex has seen a solicitor then i think he should too if only for information. he doesn't actually have to instruct them to do anything, sometimes it can just be helpful to talk it over and find out what your "rights" are from one who knows! look at a solicitor who is part of "Resolution" - used to be Solicitors FamilyLawAssoc - they are supposed to promote a conciliatory way of doing things.
also there is mediation - where they go to a meeting together and a trained mediator lets them talk together but does not allow it to end up in a row. this would be before court (and in my view should be before too much between solicitors).
if it goes to court it is likely the court will insist on some court-based mediation too.
if he hasn't done anything wrong then i should think a court will be sympathetic to his situation.
mind you that doesn't force her to be helpful ... personality transplants are tricky things!! (that wasn't meant to be unfeeling!)
sorry have gone on rather longer than i meant but hope it helps!

I became an Auntie this morning, my brother phoned to say that his partner had a baby boy, Jadon Richard (Jr) weighing in at 9lbs.
Unsure when I'll get to see my nephew, as they live in Northern Ireland and my mother has practically disowned my brother because of his partner, oooh I won't even start explaining that. I just don't get involved in family squabbles, its a total waste of time.
Best of luck for the impending birth. Can remember during my pregnancies I was told to avoid using Lavender oil as it was known to bring on labour according to my midwife. So it might be an idea to get the massage oils out.

Drinking - I was brought up in a tea total household. I've never been drunk or felt the need to drink to excess. I like a glass of wine every now and again, Pimms in the Summer and Bailey's in the Winter. Agressive drunk people scare me and happy drunk people make me laugh. As in the words of the famous Pet Shop Boys, most of my friends "only tell me they love me when they're drunk!!"

I know I'm a bit late, but delighted for Mr Evans re: figures for the show. As I said the other day, R2 is a terrific station - who wants to go anywhere else?!
Wonderful to see Mary and AS66 on the blog - my two wonderful friends I met thanks to Chris Evans!
I can confirm that Mary is looking absolutely terrific - indeed, she is my inspiration for not having had a single crisp for 11 days!
Tiggs: I must have missed Mary's ARF request - can't find it mentioned!
From yesterday: can I just say to Hazel and the fact that she was an Egyptian handmaiden in another life. You know something? I do believe that, even though I said quite the opposite!
Tobes: I really did laugh at you saying that with your luck, you would come back as yourself! You and me both, mate!
And Bingo: I think B-sMum said this to you: not all women want a "bad guy". Personally, I'm a scaredy-cat and I would never have been attracted to some guy who was going to cause me trouble. Most women want a "good guy" - someone who will look after them - Take out the rubbish. Buy an occasional bottle of wine. Be completely understanding when you are still going to see Westlife when you are past 50. Trust me, she is out there - stop looking for her, and she will find you!
MizzDarcey: welcome - you have come to the right place!
Just to say: I had a half-day off yesterday and went to see the Frost/Nixon movie - an absolute cracker, though I would imagine that the majority of you on here haven't a clue what Watergate is/was! I was merely a child myself at the time .....

I went out for a pizza and fancied a bottle of beer (by this time I was fed up and past the silly date they give you which just focuses you on that date...why don't they just give you a rough estimate?!) couldn't finish the beer, or the pizza! Went to bed and woke up with 'wind pains'!!! 5 hours later had the love of my life! My baby (now teenanger) girl.
MizzDarcey - what a wonderful person you are. My ex's mother never sees her only granddaughter. She only lives 45 mins away. Unless it happens to be Christmas and my daughter is visiting her dad. Incidentally she only sees him about 3 times a year too. And I used to drive myself mad trying to keep the bond between all of them and my daughter. I actually used to take her over to the old woman to visit and get abs no thanks at all. Eventually I gave up and result was no contact from her. That was 10 years ago! And as few people on here have said they don't know the full picture but it is irrelevant (even if there is an untold story) as the most important person is the child. My own parents to this day do not understand a grandparent not wishing to keep contact with a grandchild (or child). So well done to you and the advice on here for you has been nothing short of inspirational. Good luck to you and your son.

When I first started lurking the blog I used to skip through posts but always lingered on one name in particular and that name was 'CherylThe Diva' not least because she always made me giggle at her comments. The longer I lurked more names would become regular reading until I started checking every single post!
My point is I would just like to say I hope you feel okay Cheryl, your bubbliness (WOD) is definitely missed today.

Hi again everyone
I like some of the early 80's tunes too and linking #118 and yesterday's discussion about death etc, that Savage Garden track is one of my chosen funeral songs - although I have a few so it depends if all could be used!
I don't think you should have to go for hymns - it should be personal to the individual.
About 3 years ago a colleague died suddenly at only 47 or so and as her cremation service ended a track called something like "I hope you'll dance" was played. It was her favourite, and although I didn't know it then, it has been on the radio a few times since and I always stop what I'm doing and think of her.

The Vanilla pudding Robbery
This is just too funny not to share... Excerpted from an article which appeared in The Dublin Times about a bank robbery on March 2.
Once inside the bank shortly after midnight, their efforts at disabling the security system got underway immediately. The robbers, who expected to find one or two large safes filled with cash & valuables, were surprised to see hundreds of smaller safes throughout the bank.
The robbers cracked the first safe's combination, and inside they found only a small bowl of vanilla pudding.
As recorded on the bank's audio tape system, one robber said, 'At least we'll have a bit to eat.'
The robbers opened up a second safe, and it also contained nothing but vanilla pudding. The process continued until all safes were opened.
They did not find one pound sterling, a diamond, or an ounce of gold. Instead, all the safes contained covered little bowls of pudding.
Disappointed, the robbers made a quiet exit, each leaving with nothing more than a queasy, uncomfortably full stomach. The newspaper headline read:
'IRELAND'S LARGEST SPERM BANK ROBBED EARLY THIS MORNING'....

Hello all from a sporadic,
8lb 4oz guess on the baby weight. Haven't a clue when. Twenty-six years ago I got myself going with a very bumpy, very long bus journey when I was four days overdue with Child No 2. I can't see that being an option at Chez Evans though.
Good news on the listening figures, but no wonder when the show is so enjoyable.
I was looking forward to seeing the doggy pics, particularly Biscuit the winner, but can't find them- have they been removed? It's probably just me.
I'm very fond of the name Biscuit for a pet, I had a lovely golden hamster of that name some 12 years ago. I took the name Biscuit from a hamster that the wonderful John Peel owned in the 60s. A name with a fine rock and roll pedigree, then.
I have a Top Tenuous with Rob Brydon - when I was a little girl I was on a TV show filmed at the same studios that he used when he worked in Wales... I never seem get through with the Tenuous' so I'll post it here.
Have a lovely evening, all.

The situation iz alotta people are over stressed, marital breakdowns.... financial problems.... etc.. etc... and more etc, a said etc noot tlc, although tlc iz involved ere..... i'll explain...
Alot are aving total breakdowns of the mind and thus turning ter counselling sessions and sessions with their shrink!!!!
And yer know what time most of these sessions take place.... afternoon... aka after lunch.... aka Wrightie's BIG Show time slot!!!!!!!
Sparkly Tinsel - (From previous blog)... I'm sorry yuv been through it with the bad blokes!!!!
But yer see, told yer nice women go for the bad men even though they don't want bad men!!!
A think we all ave a self destruct button or look at it as a challenge.... same with me when it comes ter women!
As for me thanks for your nice words, but ave goot over me bad times and am practising me guitar like crazy, going the gym more going out more... etc, etc... am almost starting ter feel a don't need anyone!!!
Too busy with me 'obbies.... although deep inside a do need someone.... but am so busy maybe a should just focus on me music...
'aving said that, I am planning ter go ter Ukraine soon ter meet a nice woman a met last year. So maybe it'll go good.... third time lucky!!!
Some might say am being naive... all are probally gold diggers out there... but a suppose it's an adventure, a singles 'olidee and i'll see what 'appens!!! If yer dont try yer don't get!!!!
Am easy on the situation..... until me 'eart gets ripped out again!!!!
PS CLP - ARF - 'ow about either Don 'enley and Boys Of Summer or Aha and 'unting 'igh And Low both very interesting and nice tunes!!!!!
GOURANGA.... 2U!!!!!!!!
PS 'ope all a very fullfilling weekend.... that's fullfilling with.... fouuuuur... ells!!!!!!!

Morning all
Right, I shall endeavour to be fully mojo'd up to the eyeballs today. Thanks for yesterday - and I really, really mean it. I was feeling a bit down at heel - nothing serious, just missing a mate that's all. Said mate will be back soon tho, and I have a nice meal out tonight with another mate so lots of girly goss and confessions galore to be had! And for once I'm not driving - hurrah!!
Mojo therapy this morning was courtesy of some Libertines, Boston, AC/DC, Echo & The Bunnymen, a bit of The Cure and even some Bazza with his yellow feathers. Can highly recommend it!
Have posted an absolute Anthem above - this is what Mr Russell Edward Brand strutted on stage to the other week - now every time I hear it I shall grin like a feckless eejit!
Will be dipping in throughout the day as per norm and posting the baby weights guesses later.
Love you all.
Truly. Madly. Deeply.
