Alright, one week from today...
...we will all hopefully have been visited by The Man With the Bag.
And as promised I will be sending, via Santa, Gingembre's TFI memorabilia but there is a BUT.
Originally I was going to send G a TFI holdall. They are really big and cool but I lost them in the move, I think. Although, to be honest, Tash might know where they are.
There is however an alternative: Doc Martens made me up a really groovy pair of TFI customised boots.
I have never worn them and they have always sat on the shelf in my office next to a tambourine signed by Rod Stewart (don't ask). Obviously I like them, in fact I love them, but I could give one away.
Now the thing is the bag is much more useable and cool, whereas the boot would just be cool but a bit more special. I am dilemmared.
Now on a radio footing, BOY do we have a surprise for you tonight.

Never seen the blog so empty.

There used to be a DMs shop in Covent Garden, and I used to go in there purely to look at the bright yellow boot signed by Steven Tyler.

If it's not too late, can I please have a crystal ball for Christmas.
You see, I work for a fairly small company but we are rather spread out within the building. I tend to answer 90% of the incoming phone calls and am getting mighty peeved with the following:-
"Hello, I've got a missed call on my mobile from this number".
So, you see Santa, a crystal ball will help my plight no end when these callers return calls to they don't know who!!

Sir, Coldplay, Keane, Rihanna, 'ard Fi and Snow Patrol.... and WHATTA COINCIDENCE.... she told me she liked Snow Patrol the best!!!@!!!!@! 100% true... the Snow Patrol bit that iz!!!!!

Funny everytime I listen to my Snow Patrol album, the identical one I gave to Inna, I remember the moment Inna lying 'appy on the sofa at the appartment I rented, listening to the CD for the first time and 'er turning to me and smiling and saying she really likes this album best.... funny 'ow music takes you to small moments in life like this!!!!
Actually, as much as a love this album, a find it painful ter listen ter the CD because of this... sometimes do wish I wasn't such a very sensitive bloke!!! Think I really loved Inna, still do... maybe.
Fourthly or is it about twelvethly by now... lost count.... can a also just say... talkin' of R.V.P performing performers... err Geraldine McQueen with 'er new Christmas tune..... now, sorry know who she sounds exactly like ter me in this tune.... **attempting a measured, cool, calm post**
Having worked yesterday from 8am right thro' to 3am and receiving the news during that time that my interview was not a success I went to bed in the early hours and sad, tired boy (although I was on the news yesterday a few times, did ya see me?, my mum did from the texts I received)
HOWEVER
what am I supposed to say this morning as I flip up the laptop prior to returning to work inabit and read CLP's post???
Chris, you will never fully know how you have made my year, I won't be so bold as to choose my gift as both of them sound so amazing. The bag would be used for everything and the boot, well it would be displayed very prominantly in KWtowers. The truth be known my eyes filled with water and I just sat open mouthed for a long time. I am truly humbled by your generosity.
I really don't know what else to say as I'm not allowed to type mt 'actual' reaction!!!!!!!!

Well....hello :)
Now don't hit me for being absent for so long...my new job is taking sooooo much time I have no chance to get on the blog any more, and I have also just been on a round the world extravaganza taking in the USA, Canada, Sri-Lanka, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam and finally Thailand (with an extra 4 days stuck in Phuket thanks to airport closure). Add to that my management activities and also sleeping, means I have so little time for other things. In addition my home PC has gone to the little PC heaven in the sky means I am stuck with my work pc until santa brings me a new one for Crimbo (already ordered and being built by those good people a Packard Bell (other PC makes are available) ).
Anyway, the trip was great and there are pics on my FB page.
I just wanted to wish you all a fantastic Christmas and New Year...i shall be dashing off on Saturday to the snowey wastes of canada to help my nephew build the world's biggest snow fort. I am sure your plans are numerous and wonderful..perhaps the hectic work place will calm down and I can spend some time getting to know you guys again. :)
And well done Gingembre...that will be a great Crimbo pressy from the Ginger one :)

Ah well last night was good those nice guys from the local manor were alright in the end and we had a really good laugh with the other ladies from my dance class as well. Those guys really leapt into action and ran a lovely hot tub for us all to share and we relaxed with champers ? hmmm reminds me of another tub somewhere else?.. I had the radar on full tilt trying to detect an Oirish accent or two, but alas, nothing.
It got quite busy, and short of going to each table and asking who they were - which would have probably got me barred for life - I didn't really know what to do.
I suppose I could have brought a helium filled balloon with 'Matt from Rudgwick' on it and tied it to our table, but I'm not the kind of guy to draw attention to myself.
So, sadly, I still have Dan The Man's beer tokens in my pocket.
Perhaps another day.

Debbie know the feeling - it is something I definitely shouldn't do as I always feel rough if I do go back to bed, have to get up and stay up.
I've had the first two good nights of sleep since getting the bronchil bug and it was bliss.
Still have a couple of presents to get - need to get frozen stuff in to transport to mums on Christmas day and also need to go into attic tonight for the decorations which are still up there and not down here.

The concert i saw at the 02 last december (5 rows from the stage - i could almost smell HIs Donaldness - yay!!!) was filmed and released on dvd earlier this year. the extras dvd has got a scene where they all take a nakked ice bath together. s'nice!!
now, i have a santa chocolate lolly here. do i start it now, or hang on til 4pm in case Howard fancies a lick???

#94 - just spawny, i think! it was one of those times when you just took what tickets were available from Tckmaster. when we got to our seats i checked, checked and re-checked coz i thought it was too good to be true and that there must be some mistake. i even asked an 02 steward just to make sure we were in the right block / row etc.
going to wembley stadium next july to see them again.

I am, officially, the most unsociable blogger on here.
Partly by my own hand - as the lovely SBP likes to remind me - and partly by bad luck - witness the aborted Moose-meet of a couple of years ago and last night's twist of fate.
So do I really exist?
Only one person who lives in this strange world of ours can testify to my reality.
Mrs MfR and I are now off for the weekend, popping briefly into the office on Tuesday and Wednesday to check that it hasn't burned down or, perish the thought, a customer may have actually come in, and then easing gently into Christmas.
I still maintain that this is the strangest Christmas I have ever known, and the usual nostalgia for the departing year and optimism for the forthcoming one seem strangely lacking. I now know so many people that have lost their jobs in the past few days and weeks that it is frightening. As I constantly remind the moaners and whingers at work who complain endlessly about their pay, or some of things they are asked to do, if you are in paid employment at the moment, be grateful. If you don't want to 'suffer the indignity and shame of having to file stuff or stand at the photocopier for, er, literally minutes', then pack your stuff up and leave. There are plenty of people out there who would give their right arms to do whatever it takes to ensure that they will be getting a pay packet at the end of the month.
Anyway. I really didn't mean to bring a cloud of doom with me, it just kind of happened. I'm off to pop the cork (alright, twist the cap - it just doesn't sound as good) on a bottle of zingy pinot grigio and watch Jamie's Christmas thingy.
I may stick my head around the door tomorrow to take part in the weekly carnage that is the FNWC.

sorry for my absence yesterday - i was sent home from work in the morning and told that if i switched my laptop on then i would be in trouble
so have logged on early this morning and have 20 emails all wanting stuff done yesterday - who gets whiplash one week before christmas and two weeks before year end???
my car has been taken away and I hav3e a passat as a hire car - a bit of a shock from my little coupe but I'm sure it will be okay - when I am able to drive again - i have to take a couple of days off to let the whiplash go - so working form home today ;-)

A good Friday morning to you all (not Good Friday - you know what I mean!) and happy nearly Christmas weekend.
I see that it's all change for the next 2 weeks on R2. Richard Allinson is in for Chris next week and Bob Harris the week after - that will be a bit different!

I'll be lurking as usual next week - could the blog hit over 2k posts until Chris gets back.... will be interesting to see. Obviously won't be around when at my mums as no internet connection for my laptop there.
I did manage to get up into the attic last night to retrieve the christmas decorations so that they can go up over this weekend.
Good luck to everyone and if you are on the roads near Somerton Christmas Day morning and see a dark car with a lady with a christmas hat on - give us a wave I'll be enroute to my mums to get there for 930am and some toast, marmalade and cream on it with bucks fizz.

Morning all,
You find me a little woolly this morning after my work Xmas dinner last night, you maybe surprised to know that this bunch of auditors know how to party hard (something to do with the day job I guess) but strangely last night was a bit subdued even though I managed, for once, to get trains/tubes etc so I could have a few sherbets. Not to worry, lovely meal, good company and a great evening.
Decided to cycle into work to clear the head....always works :-)

When I tried hunting this down via the MP3 preview on a certain South America River site I was having to look through 149 gaude items all gothic and gregorian chant and none of them sounded like what was running through my head.
I agree with the others - at the very bottom of the page in FB there is a language option which is where a lot of us found pirate speak and it was really funny for a while.

Regarding the talk on JV, I think each case has to be treated on it's own merit. You can't really generalise.
Depends on what will get back to the pupils I expect.
Basically, the pupils don't have to like their teachers but they most have respect for them.
So I think as long as nothing gets back to school that would jeopardise this, then no problem.

Good point.
My sister-in-law has recently qualified as a primary school teacher and has started working at the local primary, right on her doorstep, the one they all attended at nippers.
Personally, I tihnk this is a huge mistake on her part and that she would have been better placed accepting the job offer of a teaching post at a school in another district entirely (ie commute to work, so that she could socialise as norm in our home town).
Only time will tell.

When I was in the sixth form, we went on an English Literature trip to Stratford Upon Avon with three of the teachers.
We all stayed in a B&B, gathered in one room (teachers included) and drank booze till the early hours.
Can you imaging teachers getting away with that these days?

Two of my volleyball players from ages back went into teaching and lived and taught nearby but this was away from where they were brought up - does this make a difference, probably.

Mind if I have a wee bit of a rant?
I was just chatting at work about kids and I said that my sister wanted her son, Dillon, to be either a paeditrician or a TV chef whereas I want him to play centre forward for England FC (natch).
I got moaned at by one of my colleagues for 'forcing external ideas on a minor' and asked what we'd do if he grew up and wanted to be a plumber or a postman.
He's 3. We've had this conversation between ourselves once for a bit of a giggle. It's not like I'm forcing him to kick a football during his play time or my sister is reading him medical / recipe books.
God, some people have no sense of humour, do they?
Anyways, sorry about that - just needed to vent.

Hi CtD. How`s you? What`s your ARF song? I personaly don`t think it matters what songs you play, a well programed computer could just as well pick all and every song each day and each week and we woud all be happy. DJ`s and producers don`t have any special skills over and above any of us for picking songs to play on the radio or at a disco, they just have to justify thier salaries and jobs by making out there is some special skill! Just like the people on the BBC, trying to commision the best tv programs, they get paid an awful lot for often getting it wrong. I`v always thought all that Saterday television needed, so bad for so long, was some good singing and dancing (Strickly...) and an engaging costume drama, but we had to wait years for someone in the BBC to come up with that idea!!
As you can read, a bit of a sore point with me, the rubbish on TV. Radio is the only part of the BBC that has tried to remain true to the public. Although they have tried to sweep away decent programs for only the sake of change or for a new controller just to make thier mark. Mark Damazer cancelled Radio 4`s traditional theme tune in 2006 for that reason, despite the outcry. They would have got rid of womans hour if it were not for another outcry from the listeners.
Just like the government the BBC often pi$$es me off the way it works. It`s self indulgent like the government and never listens to the public that feeds it.

I think encouraging children to have some aspirations and to believe they can achieve something they want to is good parenting - with a touch of realism thrown in as they get older and talents appear (or not) of course.
My kids won't ever be international sports or film stars but they've enjoyed learning to swim and to play racquet sports, or to dance, even if it's just for fun in the end.
Some people put kids down and so they aspire to do nothing at all - and I think that's sad.

Rosie - My long-gone Yorkshire granddad used to say "There's nowt so queer as folk" (using that word in its old sense of course) and I think he was right.
i.e. it takes all sorts............
In 2009 I have something I can't avoid but am not looking forward to, so I've already booked a couple of holidays - nothing wildly exotic but still should be nice - to compensate.
But I've not got any gigs booked at all yet and I must remedy that soon. Have also entered the Wimbledon ticket ballot - along with millions more, but you've gotta be in it......as they say!
Hope your 2009 is just as good as you hope.

not sure if you got my msg from the airport internet yesterday but basically many apologies - I was in the resturaunt behind the bar - me and a mate arrived around 9 or so!
I did ask the bar staff did they know of you but I was too shy to go around all the tables and ask people their internet pseudonams!! Soory, next time we'll organise it properly (with B-s Mum's bag!!))

Here's the last excerpt from Bloggers alternative 12 days, took me ages to work this lot all out and brain is definitely part of the oddsquad:

Bond, we still don't have snow! one day this week it got up to 64 degrees F. Crazy weather. It's just constantly raining here, and as dark as if it's 4pm (it's not, it's 10am!) really depressing. Stay in and keep warm!

Just thinking (as you do) about Dr T: I suppose you will be making your way to these shores any day now! Have a wonderful reunion with your family - enjoy each minute, even when everyone is driving you crazy!
Just heading back out for more errands for the office (it's endless) and will have to brave the wind and rain. It is a ruddy awful day here in Glasgow. But a day without ice is heaven for me - I don't mind getting soaked!

For me, 2009 sees MsS turn 18. Should be interesting, considering that in my brain she is still only 9!

In 2009 I am most looking forward to (in no particular order)
- seeing a bit more of the world
- finding a new (and better paid) job
- spending more time with my best friends and gorgeous god daughter
-catching up with old friends I haven't seen in a while
- the mighty Liverpool FC winning the league
- just generally enjoying the last year or so of my twenties

Sorry I'm late - not had time to catch up either - will try tonight.
Had to send message on fb this morn so shut work system down and couldn't get the darn thing up and running again before Mr B got back - flat spin - panic - you name it!! Any road up - working now thank goodness! swy I can or rather should, only use fb at night!

Haven't been around for a couple of weeks as have been on the pre-christmas treadmill and my feet haven't touched the ground (bad case of mixed metaphors there as I realise it's impossible to go on a treadmill without your feet touching the ground). Anyway, now I am officially (drum roll ////////// BROKEN UP! Hurrah for me!
Thanks CtD and Beesmum for the lovely cards, I'm really sorry I haven't reciprocated but I haven't written any yet, got it all to come now I am at rest. However I just feel like curling up on the sofa with "White Christmas", think I might just do that. And just fancy a nice nip of Christmas Baileys too.

There seem to be lot of blog weddings planned for next year - I do hope it proves to be a lucky one.
I'm off shortly to pack the car and then will start my trip around the county to visit elderly relations who probably deserve better but won't get it - doubt I'll be able to log in at the weekend but if all goes well I'll check in again on Monday to see what you've all been up to.

Don't blame your shyness. I too get nervous and lack confidence when meeting people. Heck, Super BP can testify to that.
The frustrating thing is though that you must have walked passed our table and were then sitting only yards away from us for half an hour or so.
For the record, we were on the table at the corner of the bar just before you go down the steps into the back part. I was wearing a green jumper and had my back to the bar.
Still, as you say, next time.

I feel guilty that I and seemingly noboby commented on the Mc Cartney on the programme last night.
I am not a fan I always felt the Beatles was John Lennon.
He sounded drunk and just full of himself.
