THE CHRISTMAS DISTANT ELEPHANT HAS JUST APPPEARED ON THE HORIZON
There he is, look at him, miles away but I can already see...
...his smirk. The distant elephant, the scourge of an adult's life. How do we stop him landing on our doorstep? Immediate action.
When I said we were behind yesterday, I wasn't joking.
Financially, organisationally, chronologically things were slipping away from team Evans both domestically and professionally.
I don't think it was anyone's fault particularly, just the sudden explosion of a huge workload.
So, yesterday at work, we did what we always do, commit to everything and then use the deadline of five o'clock to do it all or die.
Last night we changed seven features on the show and one during the show! They all sort of worked and tonight no doubt, they'll work a little better.
Later last evening, my brain was so fried when I arrived home, that I declared an emergency meal out so Natasha and I could have a pow-wow without having to worry about cooking and then dirty plates and all that duff.
Many decisions were made over pasta and parmesan, not to mention half a bottle of wine for me, culminating in action-stations part deux today.
This morning, I promised myself and my wife I would not get out of the car today until I had made every single "call to sort."
After I stopped the car outside the gym, it was a further two hours and five minutes before I was done.
Several times I almost copped out of the next call with the justification of having done the one before but no, for the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, I just kept on going until all the awkward conversations had been had.
So, there you are and here I am, in work early (again and freshly worked-out and de-kerfuffled).
My daughter's mum, by the way, has asked me to point out she is not, in any way, a loose woman. Don't worry she was only joking.

Blimey just reading all that has made me feel tired. So busy but it's good to get everything you need to do out of the way. Now if someone could help me understand my accounting homework and how to work out the Bad & Doubtful debts provision for the year, that would make me a happy chappy.

CtD, The funny this is, like you I seem to spend all my time invoicing and doing accounting type stuff. If I'd known my job would involve that I might have paid more attention at school - but then again I might not have done - hated every second of secondary school.
As long as my accountancy package and bank statement balance at the end of each week I'm happy.

Hello Chris,
I hope you had a good holiday. Last night's show was like, wow, a Christmas Party! A festive season launch thrash. A month ago, I thought that we were on top of all things Christmas, but no - it's coming quicker than you can say, have you iced the cake yet? The answer to that very question has just about filled my day- you see, the cake made in plenty of time about 6 weeks ago, and each week since, has been taken out of its wrapping for another spoon of brandy- seemed smugly unconcerned by the advance of time, even last week- it was still only November, the cake was naked and kicking-back in the cupboard with a tin of Roses - so why worry? But here we are just three Mondays away from the big day and already the diary is full to bursting - every stitch doing its job - the writing getting smaller each time the phone rings. Of course hubby remains unconcerned - "how much do you enjoy Christmas?" I asked him - he replied, " you can't really quantify an abstract noun".
If you'd like to make Christmas something you enjoy, do something you enjoy at Christmas.

AliB #12: thank you, you are absolutely right about Ms McGiffin. However, Chris did not have a child with her. Chris has an adult daughter from a previous relationship (a very long time ago!) and what I meant is: does "his daughter and her mum" refer to his first child, or is this a reference to Natasha and their baby .... who may be a daughter?!!!

Cathmel. That will come home to roost, hun. Meanwhile I think Mister Dingbat is on very shaky ground, legally speaking. He simply can not get out of supporting his children and nor should he. Don't get me going, it makes me rabidly angry when men (and indeed, women,) think they can just walk away from their children when it suits them. It wreaks havoc with the said children and it disgusts me.
Ok, so I'm lucky that though my ex would affirm that he wasn't the best husband, (he was actually ahead of me on points, I was possibly the worst farmers' wife known to man) he has always been a fantastic dad, and he is reaping the benefit of a daughter who thinks he's the dog's danglies and would walk over hot coals for him now. And that's why I count my blessings daily and why it makes me so sad and angry when I read stories like yours.
So for now, keep focussed on your lovely girls and keep your integrity. Don't get drawn into points-scoring but check your legal and financial situation. What goes around comes around, sweetheart, but it may be some time. Your happiness and theirs is paramount.

Well it's another late night for me again - I get paid overtime but by the time the tax man's has his share it's almost not worth doing!!!!

Haven't been able to catch up on posts but I will later when the house falls quiet.
The outcome at court today was good. The court have referred it back to the police to give him a final warning. I think this is basically the same as a caution (please correct if wrong Gingembre).
The police have three weeks to do this and if they do we don't have to go back to court. And the record is swiped when he is 18.
Basically, as it's a first offence, the employer has given him a great reference and he is still in their employement which looked very good for him.
Lucky, stupid boy eh?
But the solicitor was so rude. We waited for him for an hour and half and when he turned up we all stood up. He shook hands with Mr Debbie and the teen, but he ignored me. I felt so silly with my hand mid air.
Then he said that we should go downstairs to which Mr Debbie said 'all of us?' The reply was 'no just Dad and Tom'
I was so angry. Maybe I didn't look like his mum, I don't know.
But it doesn't matter now anyway.

The inner fairylights are a little dim this evening. The hounds and I were out for evening walk listening to Chris as is our usual routine and the batteries on my radio died miles from home so we had to complete our walk with only the sound of our feet on the already frozen (brrr) ground. It did not make for a happy walk.
I'm hoping that if I catch up with the rest of the show later this evening it will bring back the cheer!

Just be happy the problem seems to be resolved for now. A few days ago you were terrified you might never see him again.
And he isn't stupid. He's unhappy and probably frightened and needs a right good rollocking so he is left in no doubt that behaviour is counterproductive and won't be tolerated again, but then supported. And who knows, maybe just having his dad beside him on this occasion was what was needed?
So I'd say you can safely step back, he won't think any less of you and nor will his dad. It's a question of keeping the cage door open. We all need to make and own our own mistakes in life, it's called growing up.
Right. So any road. This lap-top. Or, more accurately, me previous one. Took it back to whence it came as the keys were sticking in a peculiar fashion, gave 'em a right good rollockin' a la Sybil Fawlty, and they promptly replaced it.
Well now. Renee has just fessed up upon hearing tonight's show. Seems she spilt rice pudding on it. Don't ask me how, just don't...anyway, Sally the Yorkie jumped up and promptly licked it off, whereupon Renee scarpered and left the crime scene in a hurry. Never said another word about it despite my bad language and growling when I subsequently used it.
Until now. Now she thinks it's hilarious.
How bad's that. It's the goldfish story all over again. The woman is a dangerous psychopath.

Good evening everyone!
Well, I'm totally exhausted now - after working all day, travelling home in the FREEZING weather, catching up on the rest of the old blog, then starting on today's one, and then finding the quiz list - which I had to copy and paste off to have a go at - and then........ well, I daren't read all the rest of the messages in case all the answers are given there.
So I'm off to the sofa with a pen now and will return when I've exhausted my few remaining brain cells and need to look for the solutions.

Now this is spooky - twice recently I've mentioned Susan (HLS) and then she's immediately appeared on the blog............. and only now (I promise) I've looked at the list of answers that she posted up at no 75.

Annie G - I too hate driving in snow and after sliding uncontrollably the other year on a big sheet of ice in a northern town where they'd stopped gritting the roads "to save money" I fear that even more. Hope the bridge isn't as bad as you think it might be.

West Lothian is good on the slidey roads. They spend a lot of money on the grit stuff. But I'm still scared.

Homecoming: They have a website, possibly VisitScotland. It's probably a tourist con but I do feel that anyone with Scottish ancestors would love it. And, I do have a Genealogist friend who could find your ancestors. For a very small fee of course.

You may have caught my Cliff related post the other day, so, despite being as far away from liking his music as you can get, I'm afraid he still has a place in my heart.
I've had another long day in the office, followed by a session in the gym that was way too much hard work.
We've 'Top Geared' and are supping the dregs of a bottle of SB before retiring.
Alas, only for the night, and not permanently, to The Maldives.
Still, despite Christmas being very strange this year, I am slipping very comfortably into the festive vibe, albeit basically seeking a rest.

Hi Annie G - Yep Eddie Stobart 'ave just goot the contract ter do all of Tesco's 'aulage so i've been in Tesco's distribution centres alot - but noot the Bathgate one - just off the M8 ain't it?
Yesterdee a collected 32,500 cans of Stella Artois from the Stella factory and took it ter Tesco's in the midlands... a waz nearly gonna do a runner with the load.... a few years supply of lager there - Be a good one ter tell at an AA meeting.... i'm ere cos a stole and drunk 25 tonnes of Stella!!!!!!

Ah, Annie, now I understand.
A cousin and I have both tried to trace our Scottish ancestors and we got a fair way back but then got stuck because they had common names (very unimaginative people - always named their first kids after the parents, then after his brothers and sisters, so every generation has the same names) and there are way too many other people with the same ones to be sure beyond about 1850.
My cousin is now both retired and divorced so has far more free time than me and I'm leaving him to it!
But I come up there regularly on hols or to visit friends.
Bingo - sounds like you need a good long rest now after all that hard work! Heard your name-check by Sal the other night.
Bondy - final word on CR - I can just about cope with the early, more rock n'roll type, stuff on the radio but nothing else!

Clodagh, I did try not to take it personally when the solicitor ignore me but I know that I'm over-sensitive most of the time.
Steve, Mr Debbie decided not to go for the duty solicitor and found another one instead. He was horrid.
007, I asked why Mr Debbie didn't insist that I join them and basically he couldn't think straight and just did as he was told.
But at least I got into the court room, that was the important thing.

Debbie honey, I am so relieved for you all! What a relief! And I just know that the teen will use this experience positively! As for the solicitor, some are great, others are up their own bahoochy! I used to go with hubby when he had to appear as expert witness in computer crime cases (some very nasty ones) but I was shocked at the way some solicitors conducted themselves!

good morning, hope you're all well?
Can this week get any better? After 7 weeks nervously waiting I get the call re the job, Chris mentions me in his blog by name (still can't believe it,soooooo exciting), Debs gets a job and her son gets a good result in court, & possibly a corner to turn in life, oh and now L'Arsenal are out of the cup (sorry Chezza).
Busy day today, #1 son off to GP this morning for a jab or 2, you may hear him around 9.30! Meeting with an old mate and his kids for dinner at one of those play/fun pub/ illness spreading ball pool places later! Then tonight I'll be watching Spurs fall like their North London neighbours whlst preparing for my assessment tomorrow morning.

Didn't make it on here last night - didn't get home almost half seven then by the time dinner was done and digested, it was nearly time for bed.
The nails are a gawjus shade of blood red - quite the Scarlet Woman now! Next re-spray 19th December to see me thru crimbo and new year.

Been thinking about some of the questions on here over the last couple of days and can reply thus:-
Before I die I want to learn to dance. I don't mean getting up at a wedding or christmas party after half a bottle of shiraz, but really dance. Salsa. Tango. Rhumba. I used to dance when I was a teenager and have always regretted giving it up. I can remember watching the original "Come Dancing" with the Togmeister and Peggy Spencer when I was young - "Celia's dress has 2500 pink sequins, hand sown by her mother" .... that kinda thing!! To tango with Russell Brand would be spectacular. Or Rhumba with Howard Donald.
Yep, before I die, I wanna learn to dance!
Most overplayed christmas song has to be Slade. I like it but am also equally happy to put it back in its box after the big day has passed.
Most under-played, in my opinion, is Robbie Williams' Walk This Sleigh.
Back in a bit to cause a tad more mayhem!

Oh how I LOVE those frocks. And I, too, used to dance as a small girly. Unfortunately I'm crap. Useless. The brother-outlaw once told me I danced like Douglas Bader. Harsh, but true.
Anyway, naturally I've been watching and willing on the cocky little gobsh*te that is Austin bless him, and WHAT was that Paso Doble (is that how you spell it..) like on Saturday. Hurrah bloody fanTAStic that's what. I tell you what. That took some bottle, fair play him. I always knew he'd be a star, and not just on the rugby field. If you didn't see it, try and catch it somehow, he's a riot.
Anyway. Where was I. Oh yes. I well remember rocking the Strictly look at age 5 in Grandma's net curtains and wrecking Renee's best shoes by clackin' around in 'em and breakin' the insteps. Whenever she tried to wear said shoes thereafter she resembled a coiffured new-born giraffe.
I can see the pair of us twizzin' around now, CtD. Yous in your beehive an' red nails and me in me silver spangled salsa frock showin' me knickers. (bit of a slapper, see..)
Mind you. What with my wrestlin' ancestry I fear I'd be more Eric Morecambe than Erin Boag.

Blimey it's cold today. I had to scrape an inch of frost off my windscreen this morning and then when I got in the car and went to use the windscreen wiper it broke! Now where do I find the time to fit in getting that fixed!!
I too would love to learn how to dance. In my kitchen when no one is watching I am the best disco dancer ever and also I like to twirl about in my lounge - what's that saying "dance like no one is watching" - well that's me.
I love Strictly and am voting for Austin and his guns, it was Christine, but she did deserve to go this week as she wasn't as good as the others.
My guess for the advent calendar today is a bell. I can't believe that I forgot to open mine at home this morning!!!

I just found on BBC Iplayer a great prog on BBC4 if you do a bbc search for The Clash you'll find an hour long prog of videos of their gigs. I'm 18 mins in and it's brill. Gives a kinda of running com as well saying what the band were doing and the like but it's really about the music :-D

Right,day off and catch up time...job in itself! Brilliant lyrics guys...but im with Annie and DD on the cant do the mnemonics or song writing thing..couldnt even get one thats how pathetic i am!
Ice here again today..but was organised yesterday and got everything in i need for today so i dont even need to stick my nose out the door...heating on and hot chocolate awaits to do the wrapping..very excited Scoobs here!
And after taking 20 minutes to park yesterday...got back to the car some 8 hours later to find it had slid about 3 foot to the left..and was about an inch away from the car parked next to me... which happened to be a very shiny brand new audi... all i can say is thank goodness i didnt return 10 hrs later or i`d have had a hefty repair bill methinks!
So,anyone driving over the next few days....please please take extra care and give yourselves time.. its not worth trying to rush.

...i`ll start... childhood...a bike, blue racer with velvet handle bars.. fell off it and broke my collarbone about 3mths later but i loved that bike!and i thoguht i was getting a magic set so it was a lovely surprise!
Adulthood...a model car that GM bought me last yr...lots of thought and time put into it..and means the world to me after yrs of rubbish,no thought presents from the ex!

msScooby - one of my best prezzies EVER was from Mr Diva last year. Very simple, hence why it appealed to me .... a squeezy ball in a net, and when you squeeze it, it kinda oozes thru the net. Very therapeutic!! Saw them in Hyde Park on Saturday at the Christmas market so brought one for my friend as she is going thru a stressful time at the mo, and she spent all day squidging it in her pocket!!

I find that the gifts that mean the most are the silly little ones that you buy just because- my fella knew that he had a chance with my becuase i bought him a soundtrack i saw in a shop as i knew he wanted it - for no particluar reason!
My fella is the best as surprise randam presents and they come out if he needs to go away or if I am sick - they mean a lot to me

Very, very, VERY cold and frosty here today, dear bloggers and blogettes. Functioning on 4 hours broken sleep here, so very crabby, then feeling very guilty for being crabby!! Girls both content at the mo - the Limpet in her chair, the big wee lass beside her, sitting on a put-put .... as you do! Am beginning to understand why I don't like C***mas now Scoob thinking about pressies.
Second hand trike - second hand pram and I hated dolls - second hand big bike which I loved but it was still second hand - still got the scars on my knee! Best second hand pressie however was Spanish guitar when I was about 15.
Fellas surprise pressies ??- nah - some asked my sis - and she would ask me - some - here's the dosh get what you want and latest - I'll pay for that as your chrissie pressie after one of my shopping trips - too late mate - it's gone on your card!!! Ho Hum!!!

Debbie: just wonderful news about your son. I am sure he will have learned a huge lesson from this and with you and Mr Debbie supporting him, he will be alright I am sure. Hope your induction day is going well!
Cheryl: learning to dance - MrS and I tried this about 20 years ago and how I wish we had persevered. But, we just could not "get it" and we ended up so embarrassed, we gave up. It is deceptively difficult, but don't let me put you off - you go for it!!
Incidentally, I am still embroiled in my boycott of Strictly. I do miss it, but I am surviving incredibly well! And Cheryl, I see what you mean about James Jordan but he was the most vicious jessie when he was raging on and on about John Sergeant! Jordy-boy is definitely off my Christmas card list!
And - I'm sorry to disagree with Annie (and others) - but Cliff Richard is absolutely fantastic. Unless you have seen him on stage, you just have no idea of how wonderful he is! (IMHO!)

I suppose it’s a case of live and let live.
Would not do for us all to be the same and it would be a shame to lose posters on the CE blog just because the individuals don’t fit in with the in Face Book crowd.
My posts are generally ignored at best or at worst I have my knuckles rapped.
I am though an individual and like anyone else have the right the post unless I break the rules.

Beesmum #208, Cold and Crisp this morning Luckily I have a fine selection of overcoats,todays selection was the good old Sheepskin.
No hat though as did,nt want to mess up me hair. LoL
Dancing is just about the only thing I have never tried,keep intending too just not got round to it yet.
More of a singer really used to be a singer in a band but got sick of all the travelling and having to hold down a day job as well,just Karaoke now.

Well taking a quick break from wrapping to eat a sarnie and offer 2 pieces of advice for those who still have to tackle their wrapping mountain...
first - invest in one of the scotchguard tape dispenser thingies that sit on the back of your hand...the best invention..no more screwed up sticky back plastic or needing to cut another piece..genius idea!
second - anyone who needs a new kettle (ours blew up on Sunday morning...cue tantrums and shouts of `i need a cuppa` - and that was from HIM!) should get a T*fal one cup instant boil thing instead... deciding u need a cuppa to hot tea in 10 seconds flat..and that includes getting the mug out etc etc! BRilliant when u need a cup but dont have time to stop!

Good day all of you and I'm just that little bit older...had a SUPERB birthday...much merriment, champagne and wonderful friends...and a hitherto unknown liqueur - Tequila Rose - can thoroughly recommend it...
My voice has just about come back (as have I) today, and I'd just like to say THANK YOU for all your birthday wishes.
That's another one off my list Christophe...and I'm gonna do the bank one tomorrow...the biggest todo by far will be all those Christmas cards to write and send before the GPO cut off...

Afternoon James - my day so far - uuum - have known a lot better! Felt quite chirpy first thing apart from being freezing and it's sort of gone down hill from there on!

MrS has just called me to say the gritters have arrived in our street today - for the first time since the chill set in! Debbie, so glad that things seem to have been sorted. Hopefully Tom will realise how lucky he is that so many people - his employer, you, his dad (and of course all of us in the background) believe in him and he will learn from this horrid experience.
Anyway, sitting on my sicky sofa and just about to watch The Holiday = perfect December movie I think!!
